  1. Nothing like the fun of Coach T. Since over here in the hills we dont have much to do. I cant wait for the really big one....Maryville and Alcoa. Hey hsfootball..why dont you go over to the golf board...you are a real expert there.....a friend from middle tn told me that you your life was about to become a "hick" town heaven....I think that is what they said....or maybe.....hickman.....well good luck to all the kids playing this week.....
  2. Hsfootball....(Matt Graves) obviously Katy has still dumped you so you have no college life to but sit in your dorm room and harass sincere high school football fans...
  3. We don't get much Greenbriar news or Lipscomb news over here in the mountains but I will tell you from watching the Mustangs at Tyner and Alcoa last year they are a class bunch of kids and coaches. I think most of the coaching staff is gone. The brain behind their defense moved to Ky. and another assistant is running the defense at McGavock. I have heard that Greenbriar has an awesome running back and a big physical team that is well disciplined and coached. It should be a great game that will be decided probably by turnovers. I read in a book that the Rogers kid is like one of the best recievers in the nation so look for Lipscomb to throw it 25-30 times. I read that last year the the Herndon kid had over 250 yards against the mustangs. Now considering they graduated most of the defense and that all their defensive brains are gone the advantage may go to Greenbriar. I think I saw that Murphy Fair picked Greenbriar to win it all in AAA. East Tennessee teams have not faired well at Lipscomb in the playoffs. This might be a highscoring shootout....right now my gut goes with Lipscomb because it is home....38-35. You guys have been hard on me and I don't know why. I just love highschool sports and get on here and try to shed some light from an east tn perspective. Sorry if I hurt someones feelings.
  4. Trust me on this one and I know my football in this state. No one east of the river will touch the Mustangs until they get to the playoffs and then Tyner or Alcoa will take care of business. AA is weak in the midstate. If it had not been for a wet field the result at Alcoa would have been different last year. Huntingdon surprised everyone as they caught the Mustangs napping. Whoever comes out of the east bracket will wear the crown in 2004.
  5. Travis Sikes over Austin Rogers? You have got to be kiddin right? Austin has received scholarships from multiple SEC schools and doesnt make it over Sikes. Rogers ran a 4.4 at the LSU Nike Camp and dominated Vanderbilts one day camp. Just my two cents worth.
  6. Well I am a huge Kentucky fan and follow recruiting closely. I have seen all the great ones in high school. Ron Mercer, Shawn Marion, Charles Hathaway, Tyler Smith, Jamont Gordon, Sam Howard, Drew Mattox, Oliver Simmons, Vincent Yarbroah,Derek Hoard, etc....and I have seen Brewer. He is the most over-rated, over-hyped kid I have ever seen. There are at least 5 players in East TN. as good or better than he is. He will be like a fish out of water, or should we say a gator out of the swamp at Florida and in the SEC. He is a nice player but not as good as hyped. He should have signed with Austin Peay, or Middle TN State so he could have gotten some pub....At Florida he is just another in a long line of over hyped kids that Billy Donavan ruins. The only problem I have seen the couple of times I got to see him play is that the officials take really good care of him. I guess they think all fans want to see his cry baby antics for four quarters. He is a one man show.
  7. You know something HSfootball...you know less about basketball than you do football. The best basketball is in the hills.....
  8. If Smith were to leave Ezell the obvious choice would be the Edwards guy from Lipscomb. I think he was at Ezell once. Also if the Hillsboro job opens they have a good assistant named Gore who would be a logical choice for that job....
  9. If we are going to talk about who was second best team in the state. Let's go back to last year and give the second place trophy to Marion County. They were the only team to challenge Lipcomb in the playoffs.....So I concede the Moral Bowl trophy to Milan.....
  10. Statistics are for losers....Officially Huntingdon state champ, Officially Lipscomb Runner-up. Officially Milan either 3 or 4th place. That is the way the record book will always read...so get over it 9 year champ....and show up in Murfreesboro next year to walk the walk.....Except the east will rise again and with Lipscomb, Goodpasture, Alcoa, or Tyner will take home the gold ball.....I mean face it you could not even beat a bad Mitchell team last year to get there....Huntingdon improved all year and your 24-6 win over them turned out to be a fluke.
  11. One more thing....to Huntingdon and their players and coaches....I was impressed with your crowd and the class your players showed..After watching all the championship games...I am not sure that on that night any team in this state could have beaten you......You deserved the championship....
  12. The best young coach I saw this year was the Edwards guy from Lipscomb. Look what his defenses have done over the last 5 years. The guy will be a head coach soon someplace or a college assistant. I know his defenses tore up the Rams and other east TN teams.
  13. Well after a couple of days to reflect here are my feelings on the game. Lipscomb did all they were supposed to do. They went out and won 14 games and played everyone in their region and in the playoffs. You cannot help what region you are in. They totally dominated the east side of the bracket. Convincing wins over a powerful but an under achieving Tyner team and an impressive win over a good young Alcoa team. Lipscomb honestly was never challenged much after the Goodpasture game and their fans, media, players and coaches were probably lulled into a false sense of security after all Lipscomb had won 20 straight games and had not been challenged by Mitchell last year so who would have thought that the west would have improved that much. Those who saw Milan and Huntingdon play were probably decieved because you had two strong teams playing on a muddy slow field. It was clear to everyone in the stadium Friday night that Huntingdon's line of scrimmage took control of the game early and never let go. Also Huntingdon appeared to be lightening fast on the turf and Bell had a career night. If you control the line you usually win. If the teams played 10 times Huntingdon would probably win 8. Just like Oklahoma and Kansas State. Oklahoma was the better team but on that night they were dominated. Not that I am saying that Lipscomb was better because they were not. We all know that football is a funny game. Milan thumps Hunt. early and then gets beat late. West Tn. folks say well Lipscomb was the number 6 team in the state and etc.....but here is the fact they were there and Huntingdon was there so the best team from the east played the best team from the West and on this night the west was better. If you look back over the last several years I bet you find that the east has more championships than the west. So Milan fans quit trying to rationalize about how good you were and acknowledge that Huntingdon got the gold ball and Lipscomb the silver ball and you got to the final four and had a great season. Lipcomb has a state championship and a runner up and went 37-5 over a three year period.....Where were the great teams last year when Lipscomb blew out Mitchell. I am sure Lipscomb was thinking if Mitchell was the best you had to offer then it would be a cake walk....Congratualtions to Huntingdon on a dream season and their state championship.....and don't forget the names Tyner and Alcoa.......the beast of the east will be back.....
  14. The mighty Ram train got a gold ball and a silver ball. In fact in few years will have more balls on their shelves than anyone around with the athletes in Nooga....
  15. Milan 24?....Gee you are like 9 year champ and still think Milan is playing...
  16. Yes I will say this that from what I could tell at Tyner and Alcoa that Lipscomb was nothing but class. They pulled their starters very early. At Tyner it was a class bunch. They do not appear to recruit because they just seem to have average players who play hard. I bet not one player on that team is more than a d-3 prospect....i still can't figure out how they beat the Rams
  17. I still think we should leave them alone and let them play. Look at Tyner. I bet Coach Turner has sent more players to D-1 schools in the last 6 years than anyone in the state. Heck this year we have two linemen that will play on Sundays. Sometimes you just get beat. We won the state championship in 97. Along the way we beat Lipscomb.
  18. So then instead of private schools dominating A and AA they would all be in AA and AAA. I think we should just leave it alone. Keep finacial aid giving schools separated and just play ball. Heck I looked at Lipscomb. We had twice the athletes they did. Our kids just need to get in the weight rooms and work harder.
  19. My brother works for KOCH industries in Wichita. He is one of 6 blacktop specialist in America. I will email him and get his picks on the game. He has devised a formula for a blacktop that will stand heat and cold.....I bet east tn would fair better on pavement....they are just better
  20. Are we talking Lipscomb vs Huntingdon here or Ok. vs. LSU. Look I like UT. Chatt. but this is a high school board. Does anyone know if it is snowing in Murfreesboro. I bet that turff will be slick if it snows....Also I have heard they are planning on moving the championship games to Chatt. in a couple of years and maybe Knoxville too. :Then it will be fair for East Tennessee football fans too....
  21. Wow that is a mismatch. Yep that will be trouble for Lipscomb. They are really small. Although Tyner tried to run at them in the middle and should have thrown a lot more. I still just don't see their secondary being able to keep up with Hunt. the way they threw the ball last week. The stats showed that Hunt threw it well...after watching Lipscomb play Tyner and Alcoa....I would definitely throw the ball on them
  22. So getting back on the subject here...Lipscomb vs. Huntingdon. If it is raining and the turf is wet who does that hurt or help the most....I know for a fact last year that the only reason Lipscomb beat us was because of a muddy field....
  23. I have given them credit for coming out of the toughest 4 regions but still believe that football should be a double elimination sport. If so well....it would be Choo Choo....
  24. Boy isn't that the truth. I remember at the Tyner game. I sometimes get on Coach Turner for smoking but those Lipscomb coaches were really healthy. I went by their bus after the game and it was like fire drill fighting for burgers...I mean the coaches not the players......but back on the subject.....It is shaping up to be a classic.....I don't think it will be on TV in Chatt.....but I have a buddy in Nashville (hsfootball) who is going to tape it for me....I am hoping to drive down but if it snows I wont be able to get over the Mountain.....
  25. Good welcome back.I am sorry I did not mean to offend you. .Now let's stay on task and talk Lipscomb vs. Tyner. So champs since I have not seed Huntingdon. If you were a coach what would you do to beat them.
