  1. I didn't say any of those guys weren't or aren't good coaches, but I still don't think you need to use profanity to coach anyone. Just because those guys do it doesn't make it right, nor does it mean you have to follow their example to be a good coach. The bottom line is -- what is morally and decently right. I still believe there ought to be some rules and regulations when it comes to coaching our young people.
  2. God has a lot to do with this subject. No, this is not a "religion posting site" -- but it's about time people stand up against taking the name of the Lord in vain (as many coaches and players do). Back in my day -- we had coaches who were great instructors of the game -- and guess what -- they didn't have to cuss their players to motivate them to win. It is sad to think that anyone has to use profanity in order to get someone to do something they want them to accomplish. Everyone doesn't have to be like a Bobby Knight. Think about Tom Landry, who won 2 Super Bowls with the Cowboys without having to cuss his players out. Or how about John Wooden. Throughout his career Wooden, who led UCLA to 10 national championships, showed respect for his players, for the fans, and for the officials. In all his years as coach, John Wooden prohibited his players from any use of profanity, and consistently avoided it himself. Well, I guess he wasn't much of a coach, was he? Oh, by the way, we have a great coach right here in Chattanooga by the name of Dan Wadley that has won the last two Class A Basketball Championships at Temple without using profanity with players. Something to think about, isn't it?
  3. Cussing should never be allowed by players or coaches. That's what is wrong with this country -- we allow things like this to go on without saying a word about it and not taking a stand for decency and morality. We have gotten so used to hearing people talk trash that it no longer bothers us. It's time that we use the voice God has given us to teach and instruct without all of the garbage that many coaches use with their players.
  4. That is so UNTRUE dude. Maybe your name explains the last word ...
  5. I'd agree that the officiating was not the greatest at the Temple/Ooltewah game, but it was definitely both ways. I was sitting right on the front row and the Owls got away with lots of stuff just as well as the Crusaders. I think people should quit crying about the refs and just play ball. No one will ever be 100% satisfied with the calls. It's just part of the game and we need to just stop the whining and try our best to just enjoy the game.
  6. Smitty77 was talking about Middle School football (who won the ISC Championship and who had Seth on the team) -- and "yes" Temple will have one of the best basketball teams in the state when Seth Skogan, Josh Smith, Dee Newsome, and Joey Shiraef are seniors. They'll also have another Skogen and Wadley playing varsity when that time rolls around. Things will be lookin' good for the Crusaders in the next couple of years or so. Not that there all that bad right now -- but this is definitely a year to build on.
  7. In your opinion -- what player plays the best defense in the Chattanooga area?
  8. I'm going to go with McMinn by 1. I'll say it will be a low scoring game. McMinn 48 Cleveland 47
  9. I'll go with SD for the W against RB -- let's say by 2 -- maybe an OT or two. SD 56 RB 54
  10. I'd go with Caleb Skogan from Temple. He's pretty smooth when it come to handling the "rock".
  11. I don't know how much you really know about talent -- but Dozier didn't win the battle. Seth didn't score till the 4th quarter (that may be true), but as far as an all around talent -- Seth gets my vote. Dozier was out of control (could have been first game jitters) -- and really didn't do a whole lot. Maybe he will improve as the year goes on and turn out to be a good player, but what gets me is the fact that you take things a little far when you criticize Temple's football program which had a good first year for having over 3/4 of the guys who never played football before. Many of them are freshmen and will get better in time as well. Whether you play "competition" or not -- you still have to put the pads on a play. And Temple did just that. They showed lots of character and heart going against teams like Celina, Copper Basin, and topping it off by beating a decent Lookout Valley team. Maybe you should give the Crusaders some credit instead of showing your lack of knowledge when it comes to sports and what its really all about. And yes, it ought to be "fun" to play the game and not to be taken so serious. If you can't enjoy the game -- then what's the point.
  12. After Temple's hard fought 2 OT loss to McCallie (54-51) on Tuesday night -- what are your thoughts on the Owls coming into the Crusaders gym on Friday night?
  13. Well, I suppose I'll go out on a limb and say that it will be Temple over McCallie on Tuesday evening. The deciding factor will be defense. Whoever plays the best defense wins this one. If Wadley and the two Skogans hit the threes -- it's lights out for McCallie in this one. I still think it will be a close game, perhaps even one that will be decided in OT. Ought to be a good game for a Tuesday nite in Chattanooga. Come early to get a good seat at this one. Temple 63 McCallie 62 Highlights at 11:00 (if we're fortunate for the local channels to cover area high schools -- and leave the national stuff for SportsCenter -- hint. . .hint)
  14. I guess we'll get an opportunity to see how Dozier and Skogan face off against each other on Tuesday night in Temple's gym. Ought to be a real eye opener. I think Skogan will have the edge on Dozier. Should be a good game.
  15. What are your thoughts on the Tennessee Temple/McCallie Game on Tuesday night. Who will win and what will be the deciding factor? Report on the Game: McCallie 54 Temple 51 (2OT) Well, it was a pretty good game at Temple. -- Just like I predicted. The game went into two overtimes (should'nt have -- Temple should have won it before it got that far) and the refs did a terrible job officiating this one (even though Temple can't blame the loss on them -- after making serveral mistakes themselves). But it was still a great game for a Tuesday night at the gym. I was wrong about the final score by about 10 points. Boths teams played good defense which is why the game wasn't a high scoring game. I believe the Crusaders will win the next meeting in January at McCallie.
  16. i would say Tenn. Temple and Chattanooga Christian are the two best 1-A teams in the state this year. It ought to be an interesting year to say the least.
  17. For you guys who play and have played (or coached) in Chattanooga area gyms -- Where is the toughest place to get a W? (other than your own gym)
  18. How well did Ooltewah play against the Pioneers and are they good enough to beat anyone in the area (or in the state -- for that matter)?
  19. Are the Owls a team to reckon with and will East Ridge be able to pull it together after their home loss to the Crusaders of Temple?
  20. I happened to be at the game in East Ridge. Temple really stepped it up in the second half of the 4th quarter. They played tenacious defense and really rattled the Pioneers. I believe it was a fella named Cudd and Shawn Wadley who hit two or three threes and from what I remember Caleb Skogan hit one or two outside shots. Wadley was fouled a couple of times and went to the line and made his shots from the charity stripe. This game turned out to be an exciting game at the finish. Temple fans have got to be happy to pull this one out in the Pioneers home gym. What a way to start out the basketball season. You've gotta luv this game.
  21. I would have to agree with you guys that Seth Skogen is probably one of the best freshmen players in the area.
  22. 1. Temple 2. CCS 3. Grace 4. Lookout Valley 5. Boyd
  23. Who would you say is the top freshman basketball player in the Chattanooga area?
  24. Temple has a pretty good schedule as well: Chattanooga -- East Ridge High School McCallie Ooltewah Chattanooga Christian Grace Academy UNAKA Chattanooga - Brainerd None of these teams are a "push over"
