  1. Isn't anyone who plays on an athletic team considered an athlete. I don't understand what you mean, when you say if Central got rid of their "athletes" they would lose games. Are you saying that "athletes" are against discipline when you mention that "discipline drove away the "athletes" a few years back." Please, clarify what you mean by "athletes." Wait, no clarification needed....I see the names you mentioned......I guess I can gather what an "athlete" is. Very interesting comment from an area that doesn't take to well to "athletes."Isn't anyone who plays on an athletic team considered an athlete. 2. Seems to me that there are other, more deep seeded, reasons people are after him. I would be willing to bet that he hear's it from many different sides. Hopefully it won't give him and others on the outside or inside of these respective programs the wrong idea about the whole area. I think there needs to be some self-examination from all parties involved. Good luck to both teams as they settle differences on the field. But I hope that those both inside and outside of the programs will work harder to settle the problems that have nothing to do with football.
  3. Wow, nothing like letting the facts come out before deciding the situation in the court of public opinion. Good job all.
  4. For the first time in my life I will miss a McMinn Central substate game. I hate that I can't be there as it is one of the best atmospheres I have encountered. As a Central graduate I am quite biased when it comes to the facilities. I don't think that there are many better places to play. Usually players like to play in a warm, packed house, with close walls. Most will say it is easier to shoot in a smaller gym. That being said...if I were a visiting fan I believe I would hate it. You guys get one little area in the corner and hardly any breathing room. The town basically shuts down and all of Etowah and Englewood show up to the gym at about 4:00 in the afternoon on Thursday. Terrible place to visit. Good luck to both teams. I believe players, coaches, and fans should know each other quite well. This episode seems to play out often. I don't want to touch a prediction in this game. I just hate that I'll miss it as I am sure it will come down to the final minute of play. To my friends on the front row....I better hear you in North Carolina.
  5. If I am his PR agent I am getting no compensation. If I am his mom......I need some serious therapy. Does AAU have something to do with players going to certain schools? Anyone who doesn't think so needs to check their head. In most cases I think the talking comes from parents of kids who want their kids to play with certain players. I have been on both sides. I have gained players and lost players. It seems to be the norm that the parents and kids do the talking. I can only speak for the coaches that I have had personal experiences with and I can say that what I said of the head coaches at McMinn Central can be said of the Assistants as well. McMinn Central does recruit. Every time the paper prints another story about a 20 win season. Every time the paper prints a story about a district championship, region championship, and college signee. They cannot help it if kids and parents seek successful programs. Add that to what has always been a classy way of doing things and it makes for a perfect recruiting packet. McMinn Central has the best programs in the area.....of course people will want to play there. Guess I am in the discussion now.
  6. I try to stay out of these "transfer" discussions but I would like to add this. I have had personal experience with the McMinn Central program and have heard both head coaches tell players from other schools not to transfer. I have seen the women's coach not even give a transfer player a look because of her attitude. This girl would have been the most athletic basketball player East Tennessee has ever seen. Coach Morgan puts and will always put dignity in front of winning. He is the only coach I have ever known who actually puts winning behind developing young adults. I don't know that the same can be said of other coaches in other programs. But I have heard the phone calls, and I have heard the statement, more than once, "If you want my advice, you should just stay where your at. You will appreciate more if you end your career where you started." How many other coaches would say that? I don't know if I would. We could all learn a lot from Coach Morgan.
  7. I always thought it was the first girls that arrived to the gym, bigdon. Maybe he just puts all the names in hat, or has the girls take an Andy Griffith quiz and whoever wins gets to start.
  8. As a McMinn Central fan, I get very worried when I see that people are already looking past Alcoa. It would be dangerous to do so. They are well coached and play the game the right way. They have Brandan Warren and have beat McMinn Central in the show before. Maybe Central should take care of Thursday before looking ahead to Friday and Championship Saturday. That said......McMinn Central is capable of having a very good tournament. They have 5 legit offensive threats. Many teams cannot boast that. Also, I have been to the state as an observer or coach for the last few years and it always seems that surprises. McMinn Central could be one of them. Are Bolivar, Liberty, Mitchell, and possibly Goodpasture better? Maybe. But great teams can go to Murfreesboro and have an off game. In any case......I think it is going to be one of the best years for AA ball and I am looking forward to a great tournament.
  9. What is Bradley offering kids? A winning program. period! Do you think they are boarding him in the field house? They aren't giving him anything of monetary value, no room, no board, no tuition, nothing. Before you go crazy Walkenvol: maybe they just didn't want you bad enough to give you money at the "big blue" b/c it happens, but it's within the rules now and it is unlimited so why are you so defensive about something that is ok (now)?
  10. What about the federal court case(you know, the one Mc started and it got them the death penalty) when the financial aid officer got on the stand (under oath) and ssaid Mc had like 120 kids on financial aid? Urban myth? I think it is called testimony. Brad Lane-got money. How about the Mclendon sp? kid from Bradley Junior? He get money or win the lottery? Giving athletes money so your kids can win is one thing but lying will get you in real trouble with the man upstairs. It's ok, you have your own division with unlimited aid. You're not breaking the rules any more, you don't have to lie any more. I guess old habits are hard to break. BTW-DO you guys have jobs? Lives? Are your kids still involved? Maybe living your unfulfilled life through your children got to you on a deeper plane than we thought.
  11. Couple of things.....McMinn Central plays a lot of freshman. Many times freshman aren't as good on the road. Hostile crowds and less familiar surroundings can sometimes lead to a bit of nervousness. Maybe it is less about referees or "home court advantage" and more about not being good enough to consistantly win on the road. Maybe the other teams don't play as well at Central. Who knows? Didn't Cleveland shoot 35 foul shots. If so that makes the 50 foul shots by Central not so shocking.
  12. I heard Beau Brown had 43 tonight. Nice way to end a career. Beau and Blake should be pretty proud of what they have done in four years. Will they be able to keep it up in the tournament? How much will the loss of Casey Browder effect a possible state tournament run? Should be a great "second season."
  13. What was the score of tonight's game?
  14. So many good teams or so many mediocre teams? Same result, just bad basketball.
  15. Wow....CoachQ.....recruiting? When has there ever been recruiting? When has a Central coach ever recruited a girl or guy for that matter? When has a Central coach driven from Athens to the outskirts of Englewood to talk to a football player from Englewood Elementary? Never, the McMinn coaches took care of that. When has a Central coach gone to an Athens Elementary school and, with the principal of that school, told a player that they needed to go to a certain high school? You know, if they wanted to have a chance to play. Wait...again...McMinn coaches did that. The only recruiting that Central does or has ever done is win. Thats right. They make a habit of winning. Coaches don't get run off by parents. Coaches don't continually underachieve. And players are usually good people on and off the court. That is why basketball players choose and will continue to choose McMinn Central over McMinn. Central people don't look for excuses....they just get better. You want to learn how to do that. Feel free to come over and take notes. By the way....I would shutter to think that this was actually the CoachQ making these accusations. Seems a little below the real CoachQ. Maybe you should think of a different name. You know, so people don't get the wrong impression about the real CoachQ.
