  1. I know the Cheatham vs. Harpeth game is still on at Cheatham tonight. Haven't heard about any others.
  2. I assure you that none of the kids were blamed for the game. Actually they were praised for how well they played the first half. And several of the kids were praised for how well they played and all were given praise for how they're getting better. Several players were challenged to play better...a common theme when you play on any team, anywhere. But none were blamed for the loss. Actually they were asked to forget all about the game and get ready for their next 4 game stretch, in which they have good chances to win some games. If they can win 3 out of the next 4 then they can be at 3-3 in the district and sitting in good shape. I just wanted to clear the air about that.
  3. Ben...I've watched a lot of games in this district over the years, and I have to say that you are one of the most classiest young men I've ever seen play in this league. The biggest instance of this that I've seen was when Cheatham County traveled to Waverly this year and you helped carry the Cheatham player who twisted his ankle to the bench. Good luck in all that you do...I'm sure you will be successful at anything you do if you carry the same attitude forward.
  4. Actually not really...if you can stay away from them til the Region Championship then you go to sub-state win or lose and can go through somebody else to get there. And I would much rather be 1st or 3rd in the district to do just that.
  5. Ha ha ha...touche' Kiwi...they are the only team to do that for sure! I think the god thing is a joke...and I'm not piling on Sycamore. I really do symphasize with Sycamore...but I'm pretty sure they beat Cheatham without Becca and Katie. I'm not criticizing the team at all...I just hate holding the ball. To me it admits defeat immediately. Being patient and taking what you get within your offense is fine...even if it waists a minute or two off the clock...but just sitting up top and holding the ball is terrible to me. I'm looking forward to tomorrow night...I'm certainly hope the games are closer than the boy's games tonight!
  6. Yes...Sycamore held the ball DOWN the whole game. I could see them trying to stall if they had the lead...but they never had the lead. I understand that their best player for the year got hurt, but the beat the Lady Cubs the first game at Sycamore by spreading the floor and getting to the hole. Not holding the ball. In my opinion, that's admitting defeat before you ever step on the floor. The good thing for Cheatham is that they didn't have to battle through a strenuous game or risk anybody getting hurt. So I see it as a plus for them. I'm not sure the situation at Creekwood, but I know they lost their best player and another big contributor to their team. I don't know if they quit or got kicked off of the team, but they are no longer with them. As far as a fizzle goes, I must say that a couple of the teams have a chance of going pretty far this year if they play to their capabilities and I'm excited to see what happens.
  7. I totally agree. As I said in my earlier posts...I think Creekwood is the only team that can make a run out of this district. And if they can stay away from Bolivar they have a great chance of getting back to the sub-state. They are a scary team this year...but next year I don't think anybody will be able to beat them honestly. Especially with Sycamore and Fairview leaving the district.
  8. Just got crazier... Harpeth beats Sycamore by 25+ Waverly beats Creekwood 4 teams are now at 7-5 in the district and there are crazy possibilities...too many for me to try and put down. This is a crazy time right now in the district and it's gonna be great down the stretch and on in the tournament...
  9. Pretty big games in the district tonight with a lot of implications... Harpeth over Sycamore by 6. I think Harpeth wins in a very heated battle. Caruthers has 30. Creekwood over Waverly by 10. Too much inside for Creekwood. Fairview over Cheatham by 4 with the Cubs playing a good game and giving a scare at home. I'm looking forward to the final few games and how everything will shake up...it should be a good finish and an even better district tournament this year!
  10. I think the reason for the drop off on the boards is 2 things... 1. The lack of truly passionate fans and students. Outside of a select few instances students just don't care anymore. There's no sense of school pride and general enthusiasm about sports anymore that there was just a few years ago. I've seen some big students sections this year because of rivalry games or what not, and they just sat on their hands. They just weren't into the game or even knew what was going on. The games are now just big social gatherings where kids can see their friends in not just a school environment. And please don't get offended if your school is not like this...I understand all schools are not. I'm just making a generalization... 2. The district is just not very good anymore. In past days you had teams that legitimately had shots at getting to sub-states and state tournaments (not taking anything away from Creekwood last year). You had 2 or 3 teams each year that were that good and there were some epic battles in the district. Every rivalry game meant more than just a cross town rival. There was more on the line. Which in turn, led to more discussion and deliberation (or more trash talking and witty banter if you will). Now that being said...I do think Creekwood has the only good chance of making a sub-state if they can stay away from Bolivar. There inside game is pretty good, and they have some shooters that can fill it up when they get hot. But they tend to play down to their competition a lot so that sets them up for upsets. Harpeth could if they would play to their capabilities but I haven't seen much of that this year. Other than that I think the district is pretty average this year... Good luck to all coming in to tournament time though. Although the district isn't great this year...outside of a few teams, anybody can beat anybody. It should make for a good tournament. P.S. I came out of retirement for howdoitknow....who claims he needs somebody to chat with...ha ha!
  11. Congratulations to the Lady Cubs! You may not have played the best basketball but you got it done and that's what matters! It's great to see the seniors step up and make big plays when it mattered...Amber's big three and Megan's great play throughout helped the Lady Cubs to victory. And Sarah Doty and Dee Bates carried their team in separate halfs to sustain the them! Also congrats to Coach Carr and Coach Harden for a great job done all year! You guys are the cream of the crop and amidst all the scrutiny and the nay-sayers you still got it done! Good luck in the Region! Also...good job Harpeth. Even though I'm a Cheatham fan through and through I still admire the way you played. I think Coach Johnson is doing a great job over there and I wish you all the luck at the region!
  12. Tonight was no contest as Rossview imposed their will on the Cubs. The second quarter was the key as Rossview used their size and strength to beat the Cubs 25-2 in the quarter. The Cubs could never get back in it and Rossview won by 40+ points. Johnny Jackson and his staff have Rossview now being a very good contender in 10-AAA and beyond. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year.
  13. Clarksville is the clear cut favorite here...but I wouldn't rule out Rossview or Northeast. Rossview is going to be much better, especially getting Johnny Jackson as their head coach. I saw them play this summer and they are a completely different team. They beat some of the better AAA teams out there this summer, so expect them to be pretty good this year.
  14. For anybody that knows BC personally, they know that he would NEVER be a glory hound! Never once have I heard him toot his own horn, ask for any compensation, or any retribution! He enjoys high school sports and enjoys commentating those games. He keeps up with stats, games, rosters, player injuries, breaking news...you name it, BC does it. I appreciate you BC and I know many other people that do. Keep up the good work buddy! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  15. I'm so sick of this comment....you guys keep saying that 11aa can't keep up in uptempo games and that they aren't used to all of the athletes. Hey I don't think you've heard...but there is a town a couple a miles away from Cheatham County called Clarksville...and they have some pretty dang good athletes and some pretty good up tempo teams! And I know for a fact that several of the teams from 11aa play teams from Clarksville in a given season. That town has produced NBA players just like west Tennessee has...ever heard of Shawn Marion or Trenton Hassell? They both currently start on NBA teams and one of them is an NBA All-Star!! All that being said....it's not like teams from 11aa just sit around and play fundemental teams all the time that hold the ball and don't like to run. Most of the coaches schedule games like that on a regular basis so they are prepared for the region tournament. And I understand that Liberty is a different animal, okay, so don't start with them either.
