  1. Where did that time come from? I saw them run against MBA at the city meet last Friday and they ran around 8:13. Some of the people I heard talking were excited because they had just pr'ed for the season. Their best runner was a 2:00. I think crazydave stopped his watch at 3100 meters. Maybe the 7:57 was a 8 x 400 time.
  2. There was a fun Boys 4 x 800 at the Nashville City Meet last night. It was tight for a couple of legs between MBA, Lipscomb, MLK, Hunter's Lane and McGavock. MBA and Lipscomb moved to the front in the 3rd leg and Snyder held off the Lipscomb's anchor for the win. MBA ran a 8:11.84 and Lipscomb was right behind them. With the time BA ran and the time posted for Baylor, MBA still has some work to do, but don't ever count them out. USN's girls were very impressive also. They ran away with it and posted a 9:37.
  3. This thread makes about as much sense as the one about strength coaches. P.T. Barnum was right when he said, "there's a sucker born every minute." Some people will believe any post and argue with it. Gopher, I can't wait to see what you stir up next.
  4. Chico is just a "front man". He is put out there to appear to do all of the dirty work. The real force behind the scenes is Kyle McAfee. He does it all. How do you think he really hurt his rotator cuff? He was chopping weeds near second base. Kyle does the work and Chico gets the credit.
  5. Thanks Tackle. Does anyone have results from Sections 1, 2 or 4. Sounds like Souder had a great 2 days. FRA looks to continue their tradition in the decathlon. Molly Kennedy must have been on fire. Is that total a state record?
  6. You better get off line. KT is trying to call you on his cell phone and he keeps getting a busy signal. I think he needs someone to clean out his pool and mow his grass.
  7. I don't have a basketball score, but Lipscomb Elementary posted a big kick ball win today over Mt. Union. They have really improved since Coach SImpson arrived. They are finally being taught the fundamentals of the game. The last coach just threw the ball out and let the kids play while he watched 7th and 8th grade football tapes.
  8. The shocker of the week was that Lipscomb was smaller and less physical that Huntingdon. I knew that because I had seen Lipscomb play. Some of the people who post on this board seemed to think Lipscomb was loaded with huge Division 1 prospects at every position. If anything, it looked like Huntingdon had all of the advantages. So much for the myth that all private schools have superior athletes. It looked to me like Lipscomb must have taken what was in their hallways and played football. They didn't bring in any big linemen to replace the class that graduated last year. They must not know how to recruit very well.
  9. Congratulations Huntingdon. You played a great game and deserve to be called champions. I posted on here after the Lipscomb/Tyner game that Lipscomb's line was small, but played with a lot of intensity and quickness. Tonight, Huntingdon's line played with great size AND quickness. While speed kills, speed with size destroys. Last year, Lipscomb had a big, physical line. This year's team didn't have that. Lipscomb looked much smaller than I remembered from last year. Their coach mentioned that in the pre-game show. He said 6 of 7 linemen from last year graduated. He talked about finesse. Huntingdon's smash mouth style and size was a throwback to how football is typically played in the West. I can't help but wonder what the people (like the guy from Sweetwater) who said Lipscomb had assembled an unbeatable team from all over middle Tennessee think now? Was it really that Lipscomb was unbeatable, or is 2A in the East in a down year? When Lipscomb beat the best teams in the East, some of them cried foul-Lipscomb must have unfair advantages. Just think what Huntingdon (or Milan) would have done to most of the other teams on the East side of the bracket tonight. (Does that mean that Huntingdon doesn't belong in 2A? Of course not.) It appears that the West is king and the East side of the state has a lot of work to do to catch up. Enjoy the win Mustangs.
  10. Hey goph, Your name, gopher 15, reminds me of a date I had in high school. We were at a movie and she said, "I could go for (gopher) some popcorn." I said, "Go". Needless to say, it was a cold summer night.
  11. I noticed in a Jackson Sun article on the Great Divide, that one administrator pointed out that the amount of asphalt on a campus gives a school an advantage. With that in mind, here are my predictions: Class 1A: Boyd has a lot of swampy land around campus. I would think a lot of it is on a flood plain. For that reason DCA gets the pavement nod for this game. Class 2A: Lipscomb's asphalt is deceptive. Much of the asphalt is actually the property of the University and the Granny White Church of Christ. Highway 70 goes through Huntingdon. (Highway 70 is the "route 66" of the volunteer state. It goes by some storied stadiums in Brownsville, Milan, HUNTINGDON, Waverly, Dickson, Carthage, ...as it stretches from Memphis to Newport.) I'm going to have to give the asphalt edge to Huntingdon. Class 3A: Covington has 4 lane highway 51 running right through the edge of town. While that is impressive, there is more asphalt in Knoxville than all of Tipton County. Only Craig's Bar-B-Q could save the Chargers. They better load up on a shoulder before the game. Asphalt edge goes to Fulton. Class 4A No contest here Morristown West fans. The Green Hills Mall is right across Hillsboro Road from the Burro's campus. There might be enough asphalt around that that mall to pave Hamblen County 2 inches deep. Asphalt edge favors Hillsboro. Class 5A: Riverdale is close to 2 interstates-I-24 and I- 840. That is a lot of asphalt. Germantown is farther from the interstate, but they have a hidden weapon-aggregate concrete in many driveways. Anybody who has ever had a bike wreck can tell you that aggregate is much tougher on your knees than asphalt. Therefore, aggregrate concrete trumps asphalt and Germantown gets the nod in the 5A game. Well see this weekend how big of an impact the pavement really has on the success of the teams! Perhaps TDOT could take over the naming rights from Blue Cross. If this really works, I am going to research college campus asphalt conditions. I might head to Vegas and get rich picking the bowl games. Don't tell anyone my little secret.
  12. The LSU defense in th e 50's was called the "Chinese Bandits." That is all there is to it. I'm not planning on going to Alcoa. I hear it's suppossed to snow. Paper, there is a good rest area just east of Crossville. They usually have clean toilets. You might want to take a cushion sit on. I have tennis elbow (from fly fishing) and seating on a cushion last week really helped me a lot. Someone from Tyner suggested the cushion and my elbow felt great after the game. Do you go down an ailse facing the stadium or the field? I have a real problem with this, so I usually just sit on the end of a row. Momma is calling me in to carve the traditional Thanksgiving Pork Roast. i better get into the kitchen.
  13. I hope that I don't offend Lipscomb fans, so please read the whole message before you get mad. I was at the Tyner game last week. (Great catfish!!!) After some of the post I had read on Coach T, I was expecting Lipscomb to look like a small college team on the field. Lipscomb had a lot of kids, but their team wasn't real impressive to look at. If it had been recess and I was choosing teams, I wouldn't have picked many Lipscomb kids. They only had 1 impressive looking lineman, #77, and I only saw him on offense when they got to the goalline. Most of their lineman were small. But looks can be deceiving. Those kids sure play hard. They played with as much quickness and intensity as I have seen from high school kids. I know I'm showing my age here, but they reminded me of the "Chinese bandits" that Paul Deitzel used at LSU back in the mid-50's. They were small, but they played hard, and won. With their purple and golduniforms and black shoes, Lipscomb looked like those bandits. (Except Lipscomb had more bars on their facemasks than the Tigers had in the 50's.) Again, they didn't look impressive when they lined up, but when the ball was snapped, they swarmed to the ball.
  14. Scissors, Will you be at the game? I would love to sit with you and talk a little football. (As long as I can sit on the end of the aisle, of course.) You seem to have a great grasp of the x's and o's. I will be wearing a red and black Wildcats sweatshirt and bright orange painter's pants. I am about 6'5 and weigh about 255. I have gray, no, make that salt and pepper, wait, make that black hair. I will look for you on the Tyner side. Maybe we could hook up with easttnfootball expert and chatt choo choo at the game. Ted L. Nancy
  15. Choo Choo Now that my cats are out of the playoffs, I was thinking about going to the Tyner game Friday night. The 500 fans though makes me worry a little bit. How is your stadium arranged? Do you have many aisle seats? I like to sit on the end of a row. You see, (You're going to think this is silly) I always have a problem knowing how to enter a row. Should I go in facing the field? Or should I have my back to the field? I am a pretty big guy-6'5", 250 lbs+. I used to go down a row facing the field so I could see the game. One night in Knoxville, it hit me that my rear was in front of everyone's nose. I just panicked. I turned the other way, and well that turned out to be just as bad. I think you get the picture. I just don't go to games anymore unless I can sit on the end of a row. What time will I need to get to Tyner to get a good end seat? Does anyone have a suggestion on how I could enter and exit a row? What is the proper and polite way to do this? The last time I went to a UT game, I got there 2 1/2 hours early so I wouldn't have to walk past people. I didn't drink any liquids for 12 hours before the game so I wouldn't have to go to the bathroom. We ended up playing 6 overtimes with Arkansas and I thought my pipes were going to burst. Any advice out there? It's after 11, so I'm ready to hit the sack. I'll check back tomorrow night and see if anyone can help me. Then I'll decide whether to go to the Tyner game or head up to Maryville.
