  1. Aydellott went for the late TD for reasons only he knows. My guess is maybe he tired of the deteriorating sportsmanship on the other side and took a last shot. As for Fisher, Jr., he was thrown out for an apparent dead ball retaliation hit on MW #98. They were going at it all game, so one or both were due to be kicked out, I suppose. "It's not why we're here, boys." It was at the refs discretion and he probably saw enough. Both #6 and #98 should have known better but hey, guys being guys and all... Walter, too bad, it likely cost you another def. MVP. Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  2. Yeah, I remember the play and the comment. Best I recall the Burro player was pushed backwards, went a little off balance and may have grazed the punter. The punter's acting job wasn't convincing because he really wasn't hit. Don't recall WHO said "step on his leg". Both Sperduto or Plaster are capable of it, though I would guess Plaster first, since he is such a clown anyway. BTW--The thing that bothers me most about play-by-play announcers and color announcers--on any level--is they: 1. Just love to hear themselves talk, talk, talk; 2. Tell dumb stories and antecdotes; 3. Belabor old plays and odd calls ad-nauseum; 4. And generally amuse themselves (and they think the viewers, too) constantly WHILE A FREAKIN' GAME IS BEING PLAYED RIGHT BEFORE THEIR VERY EYES. IT ANNOYS TO NO END. DON'T THESE GUYS GET IT? EVER? WHY CAN'T MORE OF THEM LEARN FROM JOHN WARD? Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  3. While we're at it, hats off to Assistant Coaches Gore, Mose Phillips (yes, that one), Finch, Jackson, Wade the Trainer, Dr. Jeff Herring and the Baptist Hospital Sports Medicine staff for sponsoring and mending the team. hope none were left out. They all had an important hand in the success of the HHS program and spent many a long day, night and weekend away from their friends and families to help make it all happen for the kids and the HHS family. MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HARD WORK. Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  4. Production crew did a heckuva job for locals; those guys were professionals. Great camera work and the many angles made for a varying and interesting perspectives -- as good as Jeff. Pilot Sports and alot better than the GOW broadcasts. Instant replays were spooled quickly and well done. I agree, add the down and yards to go on the screen. Thanks for televinsing the games TSSAA, don't keep all the money because you always have so little to show for it. Game Announcers: Liked seeing some new blood, so having Wychek on there Friday night was a classy touch. Frank is a genuinely great guy and analyzed things very well, as did Willie daunic. Hands down they were the best and wish they'd have covered Sat's games. Skip Baldwin handled pregame and halftime well. I'd like to see his hand at play-by-play. Pat Sperduto: I like your enthusiasm, funny quips and your game knowledge comes in handy even when you're wrong on the play predictions half the time. But it can't be easy having an annoying sidekick like...Plaster: well, I guess this town is officially stuck with Plaster. George: did you ever play a competitive sport in your lightweight life or have you always been a jock sniffing windbag? lol. I guess it's better to tolerate Plaster (pretty harmless and means well, though he's such a minor league geek) than to have to hear more of Fulton's dumb cliches like "And he's off to the races..." Blah. Blah. Yo, Texas is missing another idiot. Come claim them, please. Okay. That's my rant for the weekend. Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  5. "this is normal activity for thugs ....so dont be suprised ...cant understand why a coach would let them score with 45 sec. left...no need to rub salt in the wound. "I watched as an impartial football fan. #6 was not running his mouth anymore than #98. THese kids have grown up with this garbage. Everyone thinks they are bad and bullitproof. Disappointed in them both for their actions but you see it everytime you watch a football game, high school to the pros." "Should #6 have been Mr. Football, thats always a debatable. But one thing for sure, between the two, #6 was the best player on the field. " ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This historic victory for the Burros wasn't about one player. Not Walter. Not Calvin. It was about a team, and more specifically three years' worth of blood sweat and tears that got Hillsboro to that game again and finally a gold football. If I had my pick of teams I wish had won the gold, I'd go with the 2001 team, then 2002 then this years team. There were better kids on the earlier teams, this was the roughest bunch of them all. Kind of strange how fickle fate can be. As for whether Walter, Jr., is the better linebacker of the two, yes, in this game he was, despite being tossed. A true Mr. Football would not get suckered into a smackdown with the title game 8:00 from being over. I suppose Samari Rolle is a typical role model -- what with the profoundly stupid mock throat slash in last week's loss. Cost the Titans the game. But I'm not surprised with either one. WF didn't play at all last year due to dismal academics, so I think if the award were for 3 or 4 year starters with the best stats, he would not have been a finalist at all. Walter, Jr., is very talented, but is not a bright kid. I know his dad and he's a good guy. Walter Sr., had a great HS athletic career himself and this was supposed to be a proud night on the sidelines last night. He was likely disappointed in his son but still very proud of the team's victory. As for Hillsboro's climb to the mountain top, read Joe Biddle's column in today's Tennessean. It gives you all a good insight at what the school is up against while trying to produce a program winner. This win is special to all things HHS. Hillsboro High School -- 2003 AAAA State Football Champs.
  6. "kudos to hillsboro for a dominating performance." YES. IT WAS PRETTY DOMINATING. TWO INTS AND A KEY FUMBLE RECOVERY FOR HHS. MW NEVER IN THE HILLSBORO RED ZONE. "if team A (hillsboro) beats team B (motown) who beat team C (maryville), it does not necessarily mean that A beats C." IF, IF iF. WE'LL NEVER KNOW ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, BUT BELIEVE ME HILLSBORO WAS PLENTY MOTIVATED TO CLOSE THE DEAL, NO MATTER THE OPPONENT. "I wonder if it would have been a much better contest between hillsboro and maryville due to the styles and strengths of the teams." OKAY. FOR SEVERAL REASONS WE ALL WOULD HAVE MUCH RATHER ENJOYED A REMATCH WITH MARYVILLE. THEIR POISE AND TITLE EXPERIENCE WOULD HAVE CARRIED THEM FURTHER IN THIS GAME. HHS HAD THE ARCH NEMESIS / REVENGE FACTOR. AND YES, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE ALI-FRAZIER III; BLOW FOR BLOW, ALOT OF PRIDE AND HISTORY ON THE LINE. MAN, THE HYPE ALONE WOULD HAVE MADE GREAT FODDER... "anyway, west won the right to play in the state championship and I am very proud of the team going to murfreesboro." CAN'T DEBATE THAT -- THAT'S WHY THERE'S PLAYOFFS AND IT CAN BE SO EXCITING LEADING UP TO THE BIG GAME. SOMETIMES THE FINAL MATCHUP IS A LET DOWN, REGARDLESS, THE LAST TWO STANDING PLAY FOR ALL THE MARBLES. Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  7. Bad calls usually have a "way" of evening out--especially if the victims don't berate the officials and give them a chance to make it up. Atdelott knew that tonite on the inadvertant whistle.
  8. It will accent very nicely with the silver. Now it's off to celebrate tonight!!! Cheers to the HHS football program --past and present, and all our supporters. Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  9. I'm glad Ron got the gold before having (or giving some of his staff) a coronary. lol.
  10. GOLD. NOTHING BUT GOLD. Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  11. Trojan: Your program set a new benchmark: give it some time. Hillsboro lost 21 seniors from last year and rebuilt. It can be done!!! This was just our time!
  12. "But maybe Hillsboro is that good." Put money on it this time. This was no fluke. It was total domination in every aspect. And Coach Aydelott wouldn't have been worrying about trick plays from any team. 'Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, nah, they never even showed up.' This years' HHS squad was destined to be AAAA champs. Hilsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  13. "...but they got the job done". A back-handed compliment if ever there was one. I love that about you E. TN guys. You're only as good as your last win... And we'll take the gold football. Hillsboro High School--2003 AAAA Football State Champs.
  14. That's the spirit. Hillsboro High School --- 2003 AAAA Football Champs.
  15. Well, it didn't take long for the belittling to start. Go ahead East TN, gang up on the AAAA State Champs, it will do no good. Say congrats to a deserving HHS team, analyze the game and move on. The milk is already spilled.
  16. Hillsboro had the championship defense; MoWest had a runner-up defense. Look at the score again. Just when I thought Hillsboro made believers out of some people...
  17. First, hats off to MoWest on a gritty effort. MWHS is the second best AAAA team in the state; why? They made it to the title game. They're better than Melrose and better than that other team to the east that needs not be named. They don't deserve space in this thread. HHS Offense--we better than doubled time of possession and tripled MoWest's total offense. The kid who "can't pass" did just that and MoWest paid dearly for it on a key 4th and 7 conversion and a TD later in the 1st half. I told you all Brad Doss had a senior's poise. No Fridge Bryant--so, put in Mr. Boyd to take up the slack. Inadvertant whistle nullified an early Burro 1st down; no problem. Where was MoWest's much vaunted defense? They just were no match for our speed, size and experience. HHS Defense--What can I say other than: STIFLING! The team many thought (or prayed) would tire in the 4th period never gave in--never. Two big INTS in the red zone. Man, how many sacks on Minnich? Fisher, Jr., got the bad end of a retaliation / ejection penalty (my Def. MVP), joined by a host of swarming Burros that made things miserable for MWHS all game. HHS Coaching: No tricks, just hard nosed football all the way by the HHS staff. Congrats to Coach Aydelott and assistants on an impeccably called game plan. Congrats, too for all the HHS 2001 and 2002 runner-ups: you guys paved the way for this game and deserve to share in the celebration. WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! REDEMPTION WEEKEND FOR ALL!! WAY TO GO BURROS!!! THE GOLD FOOTBALL IS OURS!!!
  18. Off to the game. Time to tailgate. Hillsboro's the only midstate team left that can win a championship now. Lipscomb...man, what happened? Jeesh, I feel for ya. Backup plan: we're gonna bring home the gold football to Green Hills, anyway. WE WILL NOT BE DENIED IN '03. BURROS BY ATLEAST 14. FISHER, JR., DEFENSIVE MVP; DOSS, OFFENSIVE MVP. DISCLAIMER: If by some miracle we lose, I'll be back here to eat some crow, Stantrott be danged.
  19. PepVol All's fair in love and war. I let the statements of a few of Maryville's 2002 team color my overall opinion of the team. Bad call. Other than that, and as for the fans here I'm just razzing some of you. All in fun, 'cause you have to admit you guys had it coming after the hype on here. I guess, too, I'm a little disappointed Maryville didn't make the title game. Congrats on another good season.
  20. Okay Chief. Let's get acquainted Saturday.
  21. StanTrott What are you, Hillsboro's official mouthpiece on here? Get lost. You don't like my posts, tough. Don't read 'em. Hillsboro by at least 2 TD's.
  22. Three of Melrose's touchdowns were direct results of causing turnovers at mid field or better. They had one drive for a touchdown late in the game when our SS got torched when we should have been playing four deep prevent at the end. Heffner completed several passes but it was otherwise a battle for them as the receivers were quickly contained. We scored 27 points against a very good and fast defense. If MoWest is comparable they will have to score 4 TD's and give up no more than that to compete. The Loss of Calvin: Look for Jamie Boyd to fill in very capably at fullback for the Burros. He can handle DE too, if that's the choice. His injury will be more incentive, a rallying cry for the lack of Maryville showing up. As for Motown's chances: I give them the same Hillsboro had in the finals its first year. There are several comparisons to make.
  23. MoWest should plan on bringing its A-game, and bag of lucky charms. lol. In any event, it will be the game of the day. Hillsboro won't settle for silver again.
