  1. There are two reasons Coach Rewis took Alcoa off the sched. Number one is to build his program same as Coach Meadows at WB. The other is running up the score at the end of the ballgame this year. It took alot of class by Coach Reid to run that last play with 20 seconds left in the ballgame to ice the game 40-6. With Coach Rewis trying to build a program at Heritage he does not need to play Alcoa. Maybe if your Alcoa coach would show some class like Coach Q at Maryville maybe Alcoa would still be on Heritage sched. I lost alot of respect for the Alcoa program and Coach after that play. I seen it with my own eyes because I was at the game. No reason to run the play with the clock running. I would not have waited this long to take them off the sched. But remember what comes around goes around.
  2. Vitavol, offering and making the grade to get there are two different things. Is he going to live with Coach Reid while he is at UT or will he move in with one of the UT coach's?
  3. Tom142 and gopher15 Neither Maryville or Heritage are SEC defenses and they stoped DL. Do not misunderstand me in my post. DL is a great HS running back. He will play college football if he makes the grades somewhere. In my opinion he is not a D-1 prospect until he proves he can excel in the big games. Remember we are talking SEC thats the top of the food chain in college football. I would say maybe Carson-Newman at this time but not UT. He may get an offer from there but he still will have to make the grades to play. Again I hope Alcoa brings home the title to Blount County and DL will be the key in the ballgame. Good luck to all players and parents going to the ballgame. You have my 100 percent support in Nashville.
  4. Brandon Warren is D-1 if he makes the grades to get into UT. He is a special athlete but also needs to take his studies serious. That his what will help him get to UT. I have watched him this year and he does not have any weakness in his game. He should win Mr Football next two years hands down. Dustin L has all the yards and TD's but all against smaller weaker teams. Harriman, Wartburg, and Sweetwater are nothing compared to the SEC teams he would face at UT. Against Maryville a much quicker team he ran scared and they still are nothing compared to SEC defenses. And also against a much bigger and physical Heritage team he only ran for 72 yards. He still has to prove he can run in the big games. He to is struggling in his studies at school. He did not get snubbed in the class 2A Mr Football, it is a whole person concept. They take into consideration Football skills, grades, community service and attitude. If he does not work on the other skills besides football he will get snubbed again next year. As far as the game I hope Alcoa brings home the state title to Blount County. Alcoa-28 DL-24
  5. I would say that scoring with 20 seconds left in a ballgame, instead of taking a knee probably had something to do with Alcoa being taken off Heritage sched. The score was already 35-6 and time was running out and Coach Reid ran a hurry up play and scored with 20 seconds left in the game. I do not really see alot of pride in that! Maryville could have beat Heritage to death but there coach showed alot of class by sending his second and third teams early in the game.
  6. I like the Blount Cty Championship because you get to see all teams in the county play. But for me thats about where it ends. I pull for all Blount County teams in the playoffs and hope Maryville and Alcoa bring home two state titles to Blount County. I have alot of friends who have kids playing for both teams and really enjoy watching them play. In my opinion the Heritage and WB coachs are trying to rebuild those two programs. It does not benefit them to play Maryville and Alcoa which are both tuition based schools. Alcoa may be only 2A, but over half of there enrollment is tuition based. Thats about the same for the football team. There are many kids who drive by WB and Heritage everyday to play for one of the city schools. Again I think that if a school has a certain percentage of tuition students the 1.8 multiplier should count for them. Parents can pay $45 a month and there kids play football at Aloca. My point is if the two county schools want to keep these players in house they need to build winning programs. Why should they play in the toughest region in the state, and then turn around and play the number 1 ranked teams in 2A and 4A. That really makes no sense at all no matter how big the gates are. I do not think by dropping Alcoa and picking up Seymour there will be a big cost difference.
  7. Jamey Davis Heritage- 6'1-230 Led the team in tackels this year. Heath Young -6'0-210 runs 4.5 forty, 2nd on team in tackels both Held Farragut under 100 yds rushing and Dustin L to 72 yds rushing this year.
  8. This should be a great football game. Both teams are loaded with talent all over the field. The key for Alcoa will be Dustin L, if he runs the ball well Alcoa should win the game. If he runs the ball like he did against Maryville and Heritage this year Alcoa will have to rely on Joey F, Brandon W, and company to score the points. Maryville had the speed to stop Dustin, and Heritage had the size. I think Alcoa will win but it should be one of the great games this year in the state. Whichever team wins this game should win the state. Alcoa-28 DL-24
  9. Do not let the size of the school foll you. Alcoa has around 400 students, but over half are tuition based. If I recall the tuition is only around $45 a month to attend the school. I also think over 50 percent of the football team pays tuition to play there. It does not benefit Heritage or WB to play Alcoa or Maryville as long as both city schools accept tuition students. If the city schools go over a certain percentage of tuition students they should also be hit with the 1.8 multiplier. I also like to watch the in-county games between all four schools. You get to see all kids in the county play. But why go play teams with kids from your schools zone. How many kids drive by Heritage and WB to play in the city. I have coached in the county and know most of the kids on both teams. The list of names is to long to type on this forum. Both schools have great athletic programs, I am just saying not all the talent is home grown. Bottom line, if you have the money for tuition you can play on either team, but Maryville is a little bit more expensive. I hope both teams bring home state titles this year. It is good for all Blount County for its teams to win.
  10. Jamey Davis is having a great year at LB for Heritage, he leads the team in tackles and I think is tied in INT also. Heritage wins this game 28-6 for the homecoming crowd.
  11. Heritage has three good JR LB's. Jon Caughron, Jamey Davis and Heath Young all are over 6 foot 220 lbs. They held a good Farragut team to 81 total yds of offense and Micheal wright to 32 yds rushing. Farragut had no plays on offense for positive yards until middle of second quarter. Held Farragut to 1 First down in the second half.
  12. For Heritage to even have a chance, they will have to play great defense this week. The first half will be very important to the mountaineers, If they can keep it close they may have a chance at the end. Heritage will have to play a great game and Maryville will have to be on a off night. Heritage is big and physical on defense. They have had strong line and LB play this year. There LB's, Jamey Davis, Jon caughorn, and Heath Young are all over 220 lbs and are very physical. There D-line with Gregory and Brewer have been very quick off the ball. There offense will have trouble scoring against the Maryville defense, they do not give up points very easy. Maryville's O-line is dominate and one of the best I have seen in a while. If WB had Maryville's O-line they would be 2-0 instead of 0-2. Maryville-28 Heritage-12

    Alcoa Vs. WB

This will be a high scoring game, both teams have a weak defense. Alcoa will miss its extra points and WB will pull it out in the end. WB-31 ALCOA-25
  14. Govman you guys hang in there, you are 0-2 but both teams you lost to are quality teams. I watched the SD game on film and they for real. With any new Coach there will be growing pains. WB weakness is the line on both sides of the ball, and the LB have not played well either. SM is a great Coach, he has proved that. If you give him some time he will take WB to the next level. WB has a talent rich team of players, coach's and fans. When they come together as one is when this team will be dangerous. Good luck and you guys hang in there.
  15. Heritage is big and physical in the middle on defense. Jamey Davis, Tony Brewer, and Daniel Gregory were very good on defense the last game. The other LB and CB are going to have to step up and make plays at the line of scrimmage. Minus the turnovers the offense looked good. The defense is young and has alot of talent, they will get better as they learn the system. Heritage beat this team last year and also killed there JV team. If they can stop the run Heritage will win 18-14. We will miss all three field goals. Cannot remember if we have ever made one. Heritage looked much improved in there first game under Coach Rewis.
  16. Alcoa looked great on offense during the Jamboree. They will win tonight but it will be the offense that wins it for them. They struggled on defense letting a smaller weaker PF team drive the ball on them. There two new LB spent more time on the ground at the hands of PF lineman#72. They will have to get better at stufffing the run at the line. Alcoa is loaded with great athletes but will have to improve in the trences to go all the way. Dustin, Brandon and Joey are good leaders on the team and will carry them deep into the playoffs, (hopefully the State). If the D-line and two new LB get better this team could go all the way. If not they will lose in the semi-finals again.
  17. Heritage Football has alot of overlooked talent. This will be an exciting year for Heritage football fans. Last Years team was very exciting to watch as they were in every game but two. They could have been 7-3 with just a little luck going there way. They will have an excellent line and they also return the whole backfield except for QB. That will be big question mark during spring practice. The new defense the new Coach is going to bring in should work fine. Heritage is loaded with talent at Linebacker position with up and coming juniors Jamey Davis in the middle and Jonathan Caughhorn and Heath at the other spot. They are also loaded at the tailback position with the return of Cory Pillow, Daniel Gregory and Josh Sceany. The fullback position is up for graps during spring practice. I agree this team has alot of speed in some key positions that it did not have a year ago. They should be able to play with any team in the County this year. Maryville will be there biggest challenge, they will be loaded again this year, and they have alot depth other teams do not have. They are King of the hill until someone knocks them off.
  18. In response to Dustin Merit of Heritage. This young man is a scholar athlete at Heritage and is being awarded with one of the highest academic awards in the Country. But Dustin did not stop there, recently he was selected to attend the Air Force Academy and has accepted the nomination. The selection process for the Air Force Academy is tougher than any D-1 school in the Country. Dustin spent part of the summer at the Academy competing against some of the best student Athletes in the country. I wish Dustin only the best of luck at the Academy. Who knows maybe someday soon Dustin will come back as a Thunderbird pilot and put on a Airshow for us.

    Blount County

Heritage new coach came from Fairview in West TN and before that he was in GA. He rebuilt two programs and took them well into the playoffs. Heritage will be a challenge because of the region they play in and there sched.

    Blount County

As a friend of mine told me once: Maryville is King of the hill till someone beats them. I think the other teams are getting better but need another year to even get close to Maryville. Alcoa will be strong in AA, but do not have the depth or the line to compete with Maryville. WB has a great coach in Meadows but we will not know how good they will be untill all the transfers are in and the team is complete. There are alot of kids out there that want to play for Meadows. It will be fun to watch him steal kids from Maryville and Alcoa. His style of play wins fast and he has the speed to run the offense he likes. The line will be the question mark for this team. His style of offense requires a mobil line not a big one. Heritage has a new coach and alot of young kids ready to be taken to the next level. If Heritage can get to .500 they will be doing good this year. QB will be the biggest question mark for them. I heard the new coach likes to throw the ball but they don't have a QB with a good arm. Defense will be the key for Heritage this year.
  21. Rebelraider: Rebelraider you either set in stands and watch, or you are a sideliner that never made it to the playing field. Your post shows your intelligence level and thats all the time I will lose commenting on your reply. I am a huge football fan and enjoy watching all teams play from the college level all the way down to the pee-wee and midget programs. I enjoy watching all teams in Blount County and support them all. My son plays for Heritage and at the end of the season we went and watched Alcoa all the way through the playoffs. We have alot of friends that go to that school. One thing that is common in this County is all the kids play with heart. Whether its on a great team like Maryville or Alcoa, or a struggling team like WB and Heritage. There is not a player out there that did not leave it on the field when they played. The Heritage team played every game to the end, they never gave up. There were times when they could have folded but they fought till the end in every game. The lessons they learned this year on the field will carry them for the rest of their lives. Win or lose its how they played the game that counts. There record does not show it, but they were in every ballgame this year except Maryville and Oak Ridge. They have a new coach that will try and get them to the next level. I wish them and all the teams in Blount Cty the best of luck next year.
  22. rebelbaseball: Its easy to jump on Cody Hawn when he is down but remember he is only a Freshman and he is hitting in the 4 hole. This freshman is the real deal and your comments will come back to haunt you. Anybody who has ever seen him play expects him to hit a HR every time he gets up. Cody Hawn is a class act, he is a good kid along with being a great student in school. He also has great work ethic and a passion for the game. Oh and by the way, Friday before he was 3 for 4 with a HR and a double in a 10-0 win against Heritage in the St Marys tournament.

    Heritage scrimmages

This team gets overlooked alot with Maryville and WB being in the same county. I think this year this team will make a name for themselves. No team in East TN works as hard as these kids do. But to win and be successful in there region they have to believe in themselves. You can be the best player in baseball but you have to have the desire and motivation to get better every day. These kids have a good work ethic and I hope it pays off for them this year.
  24. The Alcoa team is very young and they will surprise alot of people this year. With any young team there will be growing pains when you first start. Remember this is just the preseason and if a young team doesnt't make any errors they are not playing hard. I beg to differ with wbballa I think the Alcoa team is on the rise and the WB team is on the downs this year. Alcoa has some good youg pitchers and they will be good for a few years after. Remember pitching is what wins Championships and if this teams stays together they could win the AA State in a couple of years. I coached alot of these kids and only wish the best for them.
