  1. I was told Randall will earn his degree this December. May be a factor.
  2. According to Wikipedia: What is today Blount County was for many thousands of years Indian territory, passed down to the Cherokee tribe that claimed the land upon the arrival of white settlers in the late 18th century. Shortly thereafter, On July 11, 1795, Blount County became the tenth county established in Tennessee, when the Territorial Legislature voted to split adjacent Knox and Jefferson counties. The new county was named for the governor of the state of Tennessee, William Blount, and its county seat, Maryville, was named for his wife Mary Grainger Blount. This establishment, however, did little to settle the differences between white immigrants and Cherokee natives, which was, for the most part, not accomplished until an 1819 treaty. Throughout its history the boundaries of Blount County have been altered numerous times, most notably in 1870 when a large swath of western Blount was split into Loudon and portions of other counties. Also, the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1936, while not affecting the territory of Blount County, has significantly impacted the use of southeastern Blount County.
  3. Will Loudon's QB be good to go for this game? I know he had an extra week to recover but he took a pretty good shot in the Alcoa game. I also wanted to check on the young man that had the leg injury in the second half at Alcoa. He must be one tough kid, I closed my eyes to say a prayer for him and his family and when I looked up he was waving to the crowd.
  4. This was definitely a big win for the Tornadoes. I hope our kids can enjoy this win and get back to the business of the six-peat. I expect Coach Rankin and his staff will make sure of that. It was an incredible atmosphere for high school football. If it gets any better than that I would like to see it. From what I saw, Maryville handled this loss with tremendous dignity. The fans didn't get ugly. The coaching staff remained focused every down up until the final whistle blew. The scene after the game with both teams huddled at midfield was a credit to both programs and the men that lead them. There was an interesting comment from one of Maryville's coaches in the Daily-Times. For the past five years Alcoa has taken the loss to Maryville and went back to work to win a state championship. Having seen Oak Ridge and Farragut in scrimmages I know the road in front of them will not be easy. But, with the coaching staff Maryville has it is possible. Get it done Rebels!
  5. Newton's 3rd Law of Motion. Back to football, please.
  6. I was told the scrimmage will be at Maryville College. Start time is 4:30.
  7. Didn't Seymour beat, maybe outscore is a better word, Maryville in the jamboree last year?
  8. GVK is a CAK fan. I think he also likes BBQ and donuts.
  9. Getting ready to load up and head for Murfreesboro. Praying for safe travel for everybody heading to game from both directions. Looking for a great game as the Tornadoes 'Strive for Five'! I hope everybody can part friends with this is all over. This is a battle of two great schools with as much tradition as anybody in the great state of Tennessee. The way I see it there are no losers, just one team leaving with Gold and the other with Silver. Best of luck to both Milan and Alcoa. Go Tornadoes!
  10. Alcoa will be in 2A during the regular season. When the class if broken up for playoffs Alcoa will be 3A. The classifications are available on TSSAA.org http://www.tssaa.org/allclasses.pdf
  11. Hey VF5 - They may be referring to the timeout taken to recognize the seniors. For those that don't know, the last couple of years Alcoa has painted the seniors numbers on the field along the Alcoa sideline. They stand there with their families during Senior Night. At the end of each of the home playoff games after that Coach Rankin calls a timeout to have the kids go stand on their number and let the Alcoa crowd have another chance to applaud for these kids. I'm sure Coach Rankin means no disrespect for the opponent.
  12. Congratulations to the Rebels for earning the opportunity to play for a fifth consecutive 4A State Championship. There will be many Alcoa fans there to support you Saturday.
  13. Alcoa has some confident fans just like Milan, Marion County, Loudon, etc.. Despite what some of our fans post on this message board, I promise you that Alcoa will not prepare for Milan as if the game will be a cakewalk. Nothing but respect when you get to play a team that is 14-0 and has the history Milan does. I expect the game will be one that comes down to who makes the fewest mistakes. Whether that be turnovers, penalties, or missed assignments. Just like most football games. Congratulations to both teams on being able to make it through the playoffs and play for the big prize. I hope both teams are able to get everyone healthy and be at full strength for the biggest game of the 2A season.
  14. I for one don't mind lining up and running right at people. Didn't it work? Nothing takes the fight out of a team like lining up and running straight at them and being successful. Plus, I thought it was obvious that we needed to keep the Marion County offense off the field. Just my two cents. Congratulations to Marion County on a great season.
