  1. No I don't believe the coach is not holding him back . But the coach is the key to every great players success. A great coach will make a great player step forward and shine. A good coach really makes the chemistry work. Jarrett is starting to really shine!!!! Jackson Sun - Chester County 75, Hardin County 64: Chester County's Jarrett Jones went up high in the third quarter for a one-handed follow up slam. Jones missed the dunk, but it was about the only shot he did as the senior scored 26 points for the Eagles and hit six 3-pointers. Not only is he a great player he makes the other players shine too. He helps bring the other players level of play up too!!! His center scored 28 points also - now how's that for spreading things out!! If you take Kemp and swap him out with Jarrett - Bolivar would win the state!!! If you haven't seen him play, check the schedule - he is the REAL THING! If this guy doesn't play level D1 college ball, I'll be amazed!
  2. So true - I'd say he'd make the Hardin County team at minimum competitive within their district. Again - the coach and player ought to have a sit down and repenting session (probably both of them). Sad to see a good player like that go down the tubes his Senior year. You only get one crack at it. I got a feeling both of them will be saying "what if". Sad!
  3. it might be good for the coach to become a little more sensitive to his needs maybe?? hardin county is hurting this year!
  4. Jackson Sun - Jones' 31 points leads Chester County I agree - give him the rock and let him shoot!!! I think he could do this on a regular basis if he gets the shots. Jarrett has an awesome stop jumper! He is fast as lightning, smart and can jump! I have watched Jarrett for the past 5 years or so and he does look reluctant to lead in most games. I'd say if they pump the confidence into this young man and get some good team chemistry going, Chester Counter could be a tough, tough team. A large part of confidence and becoming a dominating player comes from the coach encouraging the right guy to step forward. Good job Jarrett!
  5. sls - GREAT POST Tyson, Russell, Rudesill - 3 very, very good coaches!!! Their teams reflect there calmness and confidence on the floor. A kid will react just like their coach. If he is calm - they react calm. If spastic - they react spastic. Tyson, Russell and Rudesill all three should be giving classes to coaches in their regions on these fundamentals. I see some of these coaches that will yell directions constantly during the whole game as though they are playing the game. This causes ultimately confusion in the mind of the player. I honestly believe the coach should keep quiet during the game - of course there will be emotional points that they should react to, but not the entire game - ugh! If you practice your team properly, there will be NO need for yelling directions at players during the game - makes you wonder what some coaches do during their practices. I am just curious - what coaches do you see doing this?????
  6. Hey JW ! You are about to make me a fan of Humboldt ! You are one of the smallest school but are competing at the next level - good job! I like underdogs! You have an excellent point. District 11 is a real eye opener. Easy street for Lexington (one of the largest school in 2a) and Milan (even though Milan has low numbers too). I am not sure why TSSAA ignores this problem. Makes a person wonder if it is politics. Tell Shivers - I ain't coming to any games if I have to wait to watch a rim put up!!!!!
  7. JWHumboldt - I think you have touched on a sore spot - Milan is a decent team and probably would or could play even with Humboldt. I am not trying to take anything away from Humboldt or Shivers (they are definitely heading in the right direction). Humboldt has in the past played down in the little leagues and they reflected what they were competing against. The competition between Milan and Humboldt districts are completely different. If Humboldt were in district 11 and competing at that level they too may be struggling. Milan will probably be a better team come torunament time, but let's face it - if you ain't playing against the Southsides - Bolivars - and now Northside (even though they are 3a) on a consistent basis you are not going to the big dance in Murf land. Basically you just don't know how to get there if you are in district 11 and you just flirt with the big boys on a once in every while we will play'em attitude. You can feast on all that weak district 11 competition, but when the big boys come knocking, you are in trouble. If I were coaching in District 11 , I'd schedule all of the teams in District 12 (except for McNairy - they should be district 11 too) outside my required district games. That may make Lexington's or Milan's coaches shake a bit, but if they would be less concerned with meaningless wins, they would probably be able to compete with District 12. Of course they'd probably get beat, but they'd learn how to compete at a different level and when they got to their regular district games they'd walk thru it. Correct me if I am wrong - but neither Lexington or Milan has done well in the Regions over the past 4 to 5 years and they have had better than average talent.
  8. So Joe's smashing backboards? Ummm!!! Tough!! Humboldt must be partying. Milan is in one of the weakest districts in the state -so it really doesn't surprise me that they got beat by the Vikings. One question - has Humboldt played Bolivar or Southside yet?? They are the doors to the big party in Murfreesboro. If they did - give me the scores. If they didn't, I want to know when the schedule - please ........... Kudos to Humboldt tonite!!!!!!
  9. JWHumboldt Is Joe a Junior? What about the others?
  10. I agree sort of with blik - Humboldt has one very good ball player (Shivers - he is probably one of the best sophmores, maybe he is a Junior?, in the Region) that plays erratic - acts kind of layed back - but be careful he can be dangerous especially from outside with his shot - he can leap and block shots - there are two other fairly good ball players on this team (cannot remember their names). When this group is working well, they can keep up with South Side, when they are not motivated they play like the team they are playing - the impression I get from the stands is that the players don't seem to respect the coach.
  11. 1st year for Liberty and they must be making some noise being ranked in the top 10 already!! How are they doing it??? Who are the stars? What class are they in? It is hard to believe a coach can do this much damage in the first year - who is he and where did he come from?
  12. Hey bbcoach - do you think district 11 and 12 are fairly divided?
  13. I have heard this also. Cameron appears out of the sky - Sounds like he might have been doing this for a while. There are some rumors about either Liberty or Union players being approached like this also. Some folks were saying he has done this before at other schools he coached - sounds crazy to me - this ain't college ball, so why do this?? The only thing I can figure is he wants to be a college coach - what do you think?
  14. Where do they rank in the classroom????? A - B - C - D or F?
  15. Congratulations!!! You are the team! 9-1? Who did you lose to?
  16. ["Coach Gardner has recruited " How is he doing this?
  17. Milan will win there district as usual - they have a good combination of team and coach - but the road to the state is through Bolivar and Southside - Bolivar is tough as usual but they are definitely beatable
  18. Sheppard has consistently beat the Lexington teams except for one time. Sheppard has a smaller school - Lexington is the largest school in 2a ball. Rumor has it Lexington's assistant coach is the brains of the operation.
