  1. Powell has 3 Seniors 2 Juniors 6 Sophomores 5 Freshman We are a very young team
  2. Just wondering what teams are playing in the kingsport tournament next weekend?
  3. Yes, Amanda Wampler started out pitching for Powell and Sarah Sutphin relieved her. I really don't know what happened except that they just were not in the ballgame. Amanda said that she was having a hard time throwing before the game started but Sarah's arm was hurting her and she was struggling also. Most of the team is sick also with some stomach virus that is going around. I just hope they get better before tomorrow for the game against Central. But I totally understand because I have not been feeling well either. It is not an excuse though. Karns just played a better ball game all the way around then we did, and they are a good team. We will be facing them again on Monday. Maybe some rest will do our girls some good over Easter weekend.
  4. I don't know the names of these players yet but I do know that Farragut has one of the most talented outfields period I have ever seen. It isn't just one player but their whole outfield!
  5. Coach23, I just want to thank you from everyone at Powell for the compliments. They don't come easy when you are in sucha competetive district and region. I feel like we still have some things to improve on but there will always be room for improvement in my opinion. We may not of won the tournament but I am very proud of my girls because they played some very tough teams and played their hearts out, especially against Hoover going 3 tie breaker innings. They played a heck of a game against Cabarrus Central, who truly deserves their national ranking. Powell is young and made some errors that gave them their 3 runs. If not for those errors we would of beat them 1-0. Sarah Sutphin showed how good of a pitcher she really is against that team only to come away with loss regretfully. I am very proud of them and they should be also. Congratulations to Baylor and good luck to everyone on the rest of the season! It was a great tournament!
  6. One thing you have to consider when you are talking about younger kids throwing that fast is the distance that they are throwing. Even a high school pitcher that throws in the 60's will slow down when they are moved back to 43 feet in college. It makes a huge difference when the distance changes.
  7. Powell eliminated Sweetwater 4-3, Then Hoover eliminated Powell 5-2 in I think it was ten innings
  8. Congratulations KenHawk on the win! It is always a good game with those two teams. But with WB it is usually during district tournament when you have to watch out for them. Nothing against Maryville they are also tough, as shown with their past record. I just know from past experience that WB usually steps it up a notch when it comes tournament time, at least they used to. That is a very tough district. Good luck with the rest of your season!
  9. I am not trying to make a big deal about it except that everyone wants to blame it on the rain although Powell was playing in the same conditions as Central was and our pitcher pitched in harder rain and noone is giving her any credit for that. I was just giving her credit for a great game against a good team that is all, she deserves that. Anyway, we have a rematch next week. I believe it will be a good game and another pitcher's game.
  10. Powell has two very tough pitchers that continue to improve. Amanda Wampler-senior and Sarah Sutphin- freshman I believe Amanda is now 4-1, 2-0 in district play including the win over Knox Central Sarah got her first district win tonight against Oak Ridge with a shutout.
  11. Thanks 5JG, I would of liked to have seen that game, bet it was a good one.
  12. Powell beat Oak Ridge tonight 3-0. Just wondering how everyone else did. Anyone know how the Karns and Central game turned out? Or the Clinton and Halls Game?
  13. a bottle bat is a long barrel bat. I do not like the bottle bats because they ding when you hit with them and the ball does not seem to jump off the bat like it does with other bats. I believe that the fastpitch demarini F2 is one of the hottest bats that I have seen, but most people do not realize that there is a fastpitch version of this bat. It is a little expensive but I believe it is worth it, and so does half my team.
  14. Central coach called the game off. They were the home team and decided to call it while Powell was batting.
  15. the score was 13-1 in the Powell - Central game. The game was actually tied 1-1 going into the 8th inning. Central pitched their top two pitchers, starting out with their #1. Powell scored the first run in the sixth inning and then central scored to tie the game 1-1. Powell scored 12 runs and had bases loaded with one out and Central decided to call the game. I have to give Central credit though they played a tough game for 7 innings and have a pretty good team. Amanda Wampler pitched for powell and pitched a outstanding game in the rain and all.

Sienfield, Actually, the softball team has done pretty good in their scrimmages with exception to the jeff co. game. We beat Bearden 5-0, Morristown West 5-1, Sweetwater 5-0, Sullivan East 4-2, happy valley 4-2, and unicoi co 4-0. We also tied Bearden 2-2 in 10 innings and just barely lost to WB and Farragut. We had quite a few people playing out of position during the Jeff. Co. game due to injuries but have gotten all of our players back this weekend. I don't know about the baseball team but my guess is that they are not as horrible as you say they are either. You might want to see more than one game before you put a team down that way.
  17. Sienfield, You are exactly right. We are experiencing a few problems right now but it is early. We also have a few girls out due to injuries that will make an impact when they return which will be soon hopefully. We still have a few games this weekend to try and iron things out before we start our season with Central on Monday. I just hope things will turn around soon because the talent is there. We scrimmaged Bearden last week and tied 2-2 in ten innings. Neither team was hitting well and that is when Powell started going into a slump. Bearden will improve also and they are going to be tough. I wouldn't count them out yet.
  18. VTEC, Who won the scrimmage between WB and Central? Haven't heard much from Central just curious how they were doing.
  19. As KenHawk said, our scrimmage with Maryvillle was cancelled due to the rain. I hated it too. We really could of used that scrimmage against a great program like Maryville. plus, it is always fun to me to play against my old rivals. I played my high school softball at Heritage. Because of that I also know the kind of programs that that district has always had and continues to have. That is also why it is so hard to pick a top team because you never know. We scrimmaged WB yesterday and lost but it was a good game. We lead 3-2 until the 6th inning when our centerfielder made an excellent catch then fell on her wrist and rolled it really badly and the ball fell out of her glove. Luckily it is only a bad sprain, thought she broke it. WB is a tough team and will only get better, as well as the rest of these two districts. KenHawk, I know the feeling with the weather situation. Our scrimmage today against Farragut was cancelled. I hope we can get one in tomorrow against Jeff. County. Good luck with your season and hope to see you at regions!
  20. I was just curious, since we are just one week from season opener, what does everyone think about these two districts? I know we(Powell) have faced some very good teams so far, we won some and lost some. It would be hard for me to pick a top team right now, so I was wondering how others saw it.
  21. Powell did beat Bearden 5-0. Amanda Wampler pitched for us(Powell). We went 5-3 overall for the weekend, Varsity and JV. Losing to Farragut 2-1 and Heritage with our varsity and Halls with our JV. The girls just didn't show up for the Heritage game, although I do not want to take anything away from them. They are a good hitting team. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for being understanding about the scheduling and everything with the jamboree. It was such a mess and we were not sure if we were going to get to play at all. Thankfully the parents and players worked really hard to get the fields ready in time to get some games in.
  22. We have had to cancel the games for Friday night but we are going to play all of them on Saturday. The coaches will be getting a call to let them know what times they will play. We are going to work on the fields friday and get them ready to play on for Saturday. Someone will be in contact with the coaches and explain everything then.
  23. I believe that Powell has a few freshman that are being overlooked. Sarah Sutphin -- Pitcher/3B Jessica Ogg -- Outfielder Samantha Cook--Catcher/3B And there are also a few sophomores that may surprise eveyone. They have great talent, I just hope they can put it to use together as a team. Good luck to all of the girls that have been named.
  24. Thought I would give my opinion from East TN! I don't really want to make any guess on Powell right now because I am one of their coaches and new to this district but I can say I hope we can suprise some people. I do believe that you are right about Central and Karns being tough this year. I think they are going be up at the top, (hopefully not on the top). As for the other district, I believe you better watch out for William Blount! Both of their teams in the fall were really tough and I would hate to see them together. Good luck to all and I will see everyone this weekend at our jamboree!
