  1. I don't think what happened at Scott High was the coaches' fault. They model their game plan a great deal after Anderson County, obviously because Kevin Windle learned from Coach Eldridge. Given that, I think Coach Windle wanted his team to have an opportunity to see Anderson County play. That is why the team was at the game. I don't know where you fellas are getting that this took place the evening before Oneida played Harriman. This happened on the evening before the Oneida/Oakdale game. No disrespect intended to Oakdale, but that obviously isn't a game that Oneida would have to be too awfully concerned about. Now what happened after Oneida got to Scott High WAS wrong, but I think that lies with bad judgement on the part of the players. Where I don't agree with Coach Windle's actions is after the fact. Instead of admitting that his team was wrong, issuing a public apology, whatever, he defended the team's actions. My opinion was that there was nothing there to defend. It had a tendency to get real touchy. If Oneida had made an effort, I think they could've brought about some quick closure to what happened. Instead, that closure wasn't provided and the head football coach at Scott High published a letter in one of the local papers, which really started to stir things up. Fortunately, retaliatory actions from Oneida appears to have been squelched (which I think is a great credit to Rick Harper) and it looks like this whole thing might be ready to be buried. . . That's the best possible scenario. It could've easily gotten ugly because Oneida didn't take certain actions that should've been taken. But Coach Windle asking the team to go to the Scott/Anderson County game . . . I don't see anything wrong with that in itself. As for the team acting like a junior pro team by sitting in the stands with their uniforms on . . . They do a short shoot-around during the halftime of the girls' game. So should they remain in the locker room for the rest of the girls' game, or come back out to the court and support the girls' team in the second half? I think the latter. And obviously dressing back into street clothes is pretty silly. Oneida presents themselves pretty well pre-game, I believe. A lot of teams show up in sweats, etc. Oneida doesn't. Oneida did finish fourth in district this year and I believe that is probably less than any school wants. But let's not forget that Oneida at one time was the #1 team in the district. They went through about a week and a half where they really didn't play well and that tossed them from first all the way back to fourth. The rest of the way, with the exception of the early game at Wartburg, they pretty much took care of business in the district. Let's not forget that Oneida has played some darned tough competition. . . Including two against York (solid AA team), two against Pickett County (#2 in state) and two against Knox Catholic. Oneida's non-district schedule is nothing to sneeze at. Finishing with 12 losses is probably not what Oneida hoped to achieve, but it isn't anything to be ashamed of, especially when you take last season's results into account.
  2. Nobody has mentioned Brandi Brown at York. This girl has impressed me more than any player I have seen this year. AA is loaded with potential candidates from around this area, though. Beechboard, Hensley and of course Hall at Oliver Springs are all good enough to be finalists. Maybe someone from York can throw in Brown's stats. She has been by far the most dominant player on the court in any game I've watched YAI play this year.
  3. First round games are on Saturday, with #4/#5 playing at 5 p.m., #3/#6 playing at 6:30 p.m. and #2/#7 playing at 8 p.m. Semi-finals are on Tuesday, with the #1 v. #4/#5 game being played at 6:30 p.m. and the #3/#6 v. #2/#7 game being played at 8 p.m. Finals are on Friday, with the consolation game at 6:30 p.m. and the championship game at 8 p.m.
  4. I'm taking Scott by 10+ These boys have finally got it going. They are a legitimate threat in the district tourney.
  5. Threeball, do you have the schedule for the girls' tourney?
  6. Thanks Threeball!! XtremeLoco, I don't know, but I hope so. :justwrestle: I don't know about the layoff but frankly I don't see anybody beating Rockwood with the tournament being held at their place.
  7. Even though final seedings haven't been decided yet, does anyone have any information on what day the tourney starts and what time the games are scheduled to be played? Goose or anybody?
  8. Wartburg is the hottest team, no doubt, but I wouldn't assume that they will win. Any one of Wartburg, Harriman or Oneida can win the district, and Sunbright can really play spoiler's role. Wartburg lost to Harriman 44-21 in the first meeting, then defeated Harriman the second time. Wartburg also defeated Oneida both times, by about 17 at home and then coming from behind to win at Oneida. Wartburg's only district loss came to Harriman. Harriman beat Oneida by a point in their first meeting, then lost on Friday night at Oneida. Harriman's two district losses came to Wartburg and Oneida. Oneida lost four district games, two to Wartburg, one to Harriman and one to Sunbright. I would say that Wartburg has the momentum right now, but Harriman is in pretty good position to challenge them. If Oneida is able to get Abbott and Tristin Bond in double figures in every game, they're as good as anybody in the district or region.
  9. I wouldn't say it will be AC in a runaway. In two games, Scott beat them by a point and were beaten by 4, so those two teams are pretty close.
  10. This will be one of the best district tournaments in the state, I think. It is so even, the #4 team has just as good a shot of winning as the #1 team, and #5 is certainly no slouch. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
  11. Wasn't really a surprise to me. . . Oneida had played them well enough to win down at their place a few days back. I think Oneida is the better of the two teams.
  12. Both district and region will be at Rockwood.
  13. Turned out to be a fine game last night. These two teams have played two great ones this year. . . Look forward to seeing them meet again in the tourney.
  14. gymtogym, you got a point . . . Oneida has a lot of talent this year and it would be hard NOT to win with them. But Coach Windle has gained my respect this year and anytime you take a seven win team and give them a very legitimate chance of taking the district's top spot to the region tournament in your very first year, you're going to be recognized, I think. Congrats to Coach Windle and Oneida on a very good year.
  15. AC is good. Lucky? I doubt it. To a man, that team is the best-shooting team on this end of the state this year, I think. Hard to say if they're gonna wind up in Murfreesboro, but they'll give any team a run for their money, no doubt.
  16. Squeaks, as it stands going into tonight, #4 Oneida v. #5 Coalfield, #3Wartburg v. #6 Oakdale, and #2 Harriman v. #7 Sunbright in first round. Oneida/Coalfield winner would meet Rockwood in semis, with Wartburg/Oakdale winner meeting Harriman/Sunbright winner.
  17. Scott by 8. It will be a good one. Wish I could be there.
  18. I agree! Coalfield is a lot tougher draw than Oakdale. That is why tonight's games are so important, especially for Oneida, since I think they have a more legitimate shot of beating Harriman than Wartburg does of beating Rockwood. I feel in my gut that Coalfield WILL win their first round game regardless of whether they're playing Oneida or Wartburg. Just a feeling.
  19. I would vote for Vespie. :justwrestle: Thomas is a good player . . . Check that, he's a great player . . . But he needs to improve his on-the-court attitude to be true MVP material, IMHO.
  20. There are a lot that are irritating, but I'd much rather hear an irritating PA Announcer than not one at all. . . The games seem dull and boring without them. Nick Manis at Oneida does a great job. Scott doesn't use a PA announcer anymore except during starting intros.
  21. Don't know about their leading scorers, I imagine Davis is far and away their leading scorer, but they have a 9-1 district record and seeing as how the tournament is held in their house, they'll probably be the district champs this year. . . They have my vote as region champs as well (region tournament is also in their house).
  22. wildwest, it was hashed over pretty good a page or two back. http://boards.coacht.com/index.php?showtopic=60693
  23. I think coach of the year should go to Coach Kevin Windle of Oneida, hands down. The turn-around up there has been remarkable. But I'm a little biased and Rockwood is a very well coached team as well. Player of the year I think should go to Davis. Region teams: 1.) Rockwood 2.) Harriman 3.) Oneida 4.) Coalfield I say Coalfield instead of Wartburg because I think that teams that live by the three usually die by the three. Coalfield could prove dangerous when tourney time rolls around.
