  1. Thanks for the info. I'll be glad when it opens.
  2. This sad story is played out every year all around the state and all around the country. Sports is made the scapegoat for the failure of our public school systems to teach kids to read or write because they are too busy joining in lock-step with the liberal agenda of the NEA. Go into your high school student's or junior high student's wellness class and see what passes for "health" education. Check out the reading list of your elementary school student. I believe one book that used to be popular in certain school systems (probably not too many in the rural South, but you'll get the idea) was one entitled "Johnny Has Two Mommies." They're teaching our kids how to put condoms on bananas but a special discipline hearing has to be held when a 6-year-old first-grader points his finger at a classmate in the "gun" symbol. .... So, lets just cut football. That'll solve all the problems.
  3. Let me answer that, since I'll probably be seeing him there. Yes, Chatt will be in the house. He'll be the UC alum wearing an OC hat. Oh, wait. That doesn't narrow it down much.
  4. All posts make good points and have good ideas, which means the Lords of the TSSAA will take NONE of them into consideration. .... Don't be surprised if, in the West, Union City and Manassas are in the same region. For some reason, the Lords are in love with Highway 51.
  5. Yoo-hoo!!! "GRAMMER" Boy, where are you?!?!?!? Uh-oh. Wait! Is this some kind of conspiracy perpetrated by a Yankee trying to catch all of us good Southern ladies and gentlemen in a trap, thus proving the Northern point that we're all uneducated??? Oh, probably not. Oliver Stone and Michael Moore don't post here.
  6. Since this a Seinfeld-like topic (about nothing ) .... I'll ask everyone this. Y'all ever seen Paige Davis on TLC's "Trading Spaces?" .... Man, she's HOT! well i'LL trie two yous propar gReMMar und speeling froom now own. Git-R-Dunn!
  7. Man, that's actually an interesting question. My gut reaction was to say that 2,000 yards is 2,000 yards and should be celebrated from the highest mountaintop. ... But, the point about who a team plays is a good one. In the NFL, rushing for 2,000 yards is so rare b/c you're doing it against the best football players in the world. Even the Detroit Lions would win an NCAA National Championship. And, please spare me, the worst NFL team is easily three or four TDs better than the best college team. .... In H.S. football, you could be a very good team playing in a very weak league and have unbelievable offensive numbers. So, the level of competition is a huge point. Also, in H.S. football, if a player plays in 15 games as opposed to someone playing in 10, then his stats will, by nature, be better. So, it is an interesting question. Still, I'll stick with my gut reaction. If a H.S. player rushes for 2,000 yards, be it against Brentwood Academy and Maryville every week or against Little Sisters of the Poor, it is an impressive number.
  8. (Sherrif Buford T. Justice voice...) Hey Boy! Bank robbery is chicken @#%$ to what this boy's doin'. Glad I've stirred up the debate a little bit and gotten us back to our "Brother vs. Brother" roots. One thing is for sure, and history backs me up on this: If I bet you on the game, I'll lose. BTW ... Trinkets' going like hot cakes.
  9. WLJT-TV public television in Lexington/Martin does a few high school games, and WJKT-TV Channel 16 in Jackson does Jackson-area games. Both stations air games tape-delayed on Friday nights and Saturday mornings, I think.
  10. Hey, tell me where they're gonna build the new stadium and when will it open? Is it under construction now? I'd like to drive by there and see how its coming along. .... And, you're right in that McK H.S. should play games there. With them moving to 1A, that would probably be as good a place to watch a 1A H.S. game in the state. I'm looking forward to that. .... Thanks in advance for the info.
  11. UC - 7 OC - 0 Oh, wait. .... That's my prediction of St. Louis' Game 4 win over the Yankees in the World Series, clinching a sweep for the mighty Redbirds. Ok ... UC - 20 OC - 13 or, is it .... OC - 20 UC - 13 Oh well. I'll figure it sometime in the next two weeks. And, yes, I know both teams have two games before this one. But, why wait for the fun to begin?!?!?
  12. Yeah, about that cow poop .... Well, here's hoping there will be clean pranks FROM NOW ON!!! ..... And, yeah, that Round-up gag went WAY over the limit. We had to live with that mess on our field on into the spring. Yep, it REALLY looked good at the Rotary Relays. Anyway, let's hope the game's the thing.
  13. Well, since some fans of both programs are using the opportunity of other forums to get the talk started, let's just jump right in with both feet ... er, lips ... er, hands ... oh, whatever. Let's Get It On!!!! (and, Git-R-Done)
  14. Well, it really wasn't the Alcoa loss that pushed them off the cliff. It was Mario going from Mr. Football to Mr. America's Most Wanted. After that debacle, the program has had more than its share of troubles. Let's hope those days are now far away in UC's rearview mirror. And, once again, my apologies to "dc38257" for "accusing" him of being from Dyer County. I shoulda done a better job of learning my zip codes. I'll tell all y'all what's really fun: Interest in the UC-OC rivalry being stirred up again. Remember when Gov. Alexander came to one of the games in the early 1980s? Here's to a fun Tacky Day, some good, CLEAN pranks and a great football game.
  15. Ok, the station's sticking with the format, for now. We get it. Even though we don't like, the voice of the people apparently doesn't mean much. Fine. You keep your format, we'll listen to other stations that happen to be carrying our teams. Now, lets all close our eyes, hold hands and sing Kum-Bye-Ah (have I butchered the spelling??) By the way, why worry about the Cubbies??? What's the last thing they ever won??? I'm not worried about the Baby Bears in a short series, a long series or anything else. With all that pitching, weren't they supposed to be the team with the 92 wins and 15-game lead at Labor Day, hmmmm????
  16. This stuff looks and feels really good. I've walked on a field with FieldTurf, and it felt just like grass. .... Some of it looks so realistic on TV, that it takes awhile to figure out if the grass is real or fake (Is it live, or is it Memorex comes to mind). .... I agree that a field would have to be in use often for it to be installed, but I also agree that the price will come down at some point. .... A field used by several high schools (such as some of the fields in our bigger cities like Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga and even Clarksville), or a field used for other purposes such as (sorry about these next two) soccer or band competitions (hey, I said I was sorry ) would be good candidates for this turf. .... I would like to see The Coliseum and the stadium in Chatt. get the turf and then make a bid on the state finals. I'm sure a lot of kids would love the opportunity to play in a professional stadium. ...... But, to answer the question atop the post, I don't know of any H.S. fields in Tenn. with it, yet.
  17. Good point. 7-1A has been very good for several years, and should continue to be. One has to look back no farther than last year when all four 7-1A teams beat the 8-1A teams in the first round of the playoffs. .... So, my point is that all of Class 1A football in West Tenn should get better, and the additions of McKenzie and UC will make this area even stronger.
  18. No, it's not. I'm just wondering if they will be on TV in rural NW Tenn this year, that's all.
  19. That's right. For some reason, NW Tenn can't get the games. .... Conspiracy ..... ?!?!?
  20. As a digital cable subscriber in NW Tenn, I have been fortunate to watch state high school championship games from Michigan, Florida, Georgia and even Washington. ... I am wondering if the TSSAA will allow its eight state title games to be broadcast by a statewide or regional sports TV network. I think this would be great for prep football in the state. .... I asked someone connected with the TSSAA about this a few years ago, and at the time the answer was that the games weren't being broadcast in such a way. ..... Anyway, I think that would be an interesting concept.
  21. I'd like to know their schedule, too. That channel 16 out of Jackson has a Game of the Week, but it's always a Jackson team, as it should be (no complaint about that). The WLJT station gets around the whole West Tenn area more. If they are doing games, I hope they pay attention to those games that are generally considered the area's big games and also pay some respect to traditional rivalries. From my standpoint (a Union City fan), I'd like to see UC-Obion Central, UC-Milan and/or UC-Humboldt. Those are three great rivalries. Milan-Humboldt is another, Huntingdon-McKenzie is another, and there are some big rival games featuring teams like Dyersburg, Lexington, Lake County, and on and on. Anyway, jus my ramblings. I thought WLJT did a great job last year.
  22. I'm sure you're not expecting the Lords of the TSSAA to do the right thing, are you? ... I like your alignments. The counties of Lake, Obion and Weakley are straight across at the top of NW Tennessee with Halls not too far of a trip from any of the others, and this would keep the Jackson schools at the center of another rather tight-nit league. Splitting up McK and UC, two programs moving down in classification, will be the key. I'm sure, no matter how badly the TSSAA winds up screwing this very simple alignment issue up, they will surely keep those two teams separate. Then again, that's what everyone thought when Milan and Westview dropped from 3A to 2A a few years back, but the Lords of the TSSAA stuck them in the same region with UC and Humboldt.
  23. Bellevue is a very good team -- 3A Wash. state champs last year. .... If you look at DLS's schedule this year and take into consideration all their graduation losses, this great program could lose as many as three or four games this season. I know the folks in Long Beach Poly are just itching to get at DLS, although they're probably bummed that they won' be breaking The Streak. .... BTW, I have both book written on the DLS program, and what they do out there is pretty darned amazing. ..... 151 in a row. WOW ..... Ending that streak. An even bigge WOW.
  24. Well, I guess Independence in NC no has the longest active streak following De La Salle's 39-20 loss to Belleview of Washington .... played at Seattle Seahawks stadium in front of 25,000 fans. ..... Hey, 151 straight wins over Little Sisters of the Poor every week would be impressive, so take that "crappiest teams" stuff outta here. ..... Hopefully, a Tennessee school will jump up on the least real soon.
  25. War ... exactly my point. LC won't be down forever, and I think the program will be on the rise very very soon. I hope so, anyway. I always liked watching those good LC teams of the past. ..... Now, monster, you're probably right about a USJ-SF game right now. And, I believe USJ has handled SF pretty good in every one of their previous playoff games. Which also makes my point. Why would a USJ play SF and risk an upset when they are one of those 1A schools getting the offers to play 2A and 3A teams. It makes sense for USJ to not play SF. ..... Gleason? They haven't beaten much of anyone lately, but I think that program is slowly but surely getting better. Which makes my other point: As teams in West Tenn Class 1A get better, then SF's schedule will get better.
