  1. Thanks Redbird, and don't think for a minute any of us believe the updates were your idea. Sportsradio & I have expressed our opinion of the move early on & since have tried to inform listeners when they CAN get Play by Play if that's what they desire. I personnally, because when I'm in the stands of one game I am seeking scores of others, have listened to you a good deal. The concept is solid. It works well in other markets. I still don't think this is the market for it and its overall professionalism (present company excluded) leaves something to be desired. I'm looking forward to basketball & we'll see what you guys do.
  2. Now let's don't be facetious. I know you're feeling frisky because the Cardinals won and all. For all three important Region 7AA games Friday night tune in to 93.7, 97.7, & 101.3 at 7:00 right after "The Pre-Game Meal" beginning at 6:30.
  3. Though it will not be the best of signals, I have monitored 1450 am on my headset inside The Pit during basketball season so I would think Rebel faithful in Troy & most other parts of Obion County will be able to pick up Charles Maxey & his crew with the play-by-play Friday night from The Reservation. "The Pre-Game Meal", Friday Nights 6:30-7:00 on 97.7 & 101.3 fm
  4. Moving Waverly is the most logical thing to do and have said so for weeks. Logic as most know doesn't seem to always enter in to TSSAA decisions. I just can't see an 11 team region or moving anyone to Memphis. Sending Camden & Riverside east would not shock me though.
  5. oh well enjoy your last game of Play-by-Play ,Rebel fans, by a station other than you local one. 825371476[/snapback] Actually, as you go on the road to Newbern & Humboldt you can take your headsets and pick up AM broadcasts of stations that follow those schools with play-by-play. Only the Brighton game will have no play-by-play coverage.
  6. We make a somewhat Dynamic Duo even if I do say so myself! With the help of trusted butler Cuuuuuuuude!, Police Commisioner Paul, and a cast of, well 4 or 5 maybe, we fight the crime of ignorance and being uniformed of high school sports! West Tennessee is our Gotham City.
  7. Good question Rebfan. Taking nothing away from Parker, but I think if Grady doesn't get hurt OC wins the GC game in a close one. As far as who I'd pick this week with that scenario it would be much tougher. As one poster alluded to, the Rebels need to load up the box and try to stop Peabody's power running game. Make Harper become a factor. I would've leaned toward OC if they were coming off a win & healthy. For Robin Francis preview of this game & my observations on the rest of West Tennessee, listen to The Pre-Game Meal Friday 6:30-7:00 before the play-by-play of Obion Central-Trenton on 97.7 WTNE.
  8. I was just reviewing my notes and saw that I've picked the Peabody game four times already. I'm trying to move around within the coverage area and hit most all the schools fairly evenly. Since I won't be picking it on air, here's the WWW version. Peabody's offense seems to have come together the last two weeks. Even though Kent Scott was a longtime aide to Tim Haney, he has his own philosophies and tendencies and it seems the Tide have bought in after an adjustment period. The Rebels defense must step up and play like it did against Union City or Fields & Scott will have a "Field Day". Losing QB Garrett Grady puts a lot of pressure on Freshmen Logan Parker. Running the Veer is not the ideal offense to change QB's in mid-year. If Trenton doesn't suffer from the Homecoming Bug that's gone around then, Vic's Pick is Peabody
  9. Speaking of booths, did you avoid the wasp nest last Friday?
  10. I would say Westview is the best team right now. They came very close to beating Milan in Week 2 and would be 3-0 in the league. However, I've never seen so much balance from top-to-bottom in this region. When the #6 team goes on the road and beats the #1 team at the time anything can happen. With Mitchell & Carver both solid teams from Region 8, it's very important to finish in the top two and be at home in round 1.
  11. Thanks for th Big Ten history. I came to Tennessee in 1975 and had friends tell me about games at Rothrock on Thanksgiving. Bet the atmosphree was great back then.
  12. Who's a lil' fella, the update guy who's not around anymore?
  13. Actually in the early days of the Rebel Bowl the Obion County champion played someone from elsewhere. Newbern & Union City both played in it before they became affiliated with the WTAC. As far as post-season play, the Obion County schools are members of the TMSAA, the middle school version of the TSSAA, and could participate in their post-season playoffs but have never chosen to in football.
  14. Every Friday night! Now, please unlock your caps lock & proofread your posts. We idiots with journalism degrees that don't know anything about football like proper grammar.
  15. Ozment's return last week takes some heat off Flowers who was having to carry way too many times. Brighton gives up 314 yards in the air to the Southside Scrappers so Ozment cound have an even bigger night. I'm leaning toward the Chocs.
  16. And previews of all the games around West Tennessee plus polls, standings and more on The Pre-Game Meal, 6:30-7:00 just before Robin Francis' Play-by-Play on 97.7.
  17. I will be the first to say that some people who vote in the AP Poll do not do their homework and look only at won-loss records. Sometimes there will be changes in polls becuase one voter fails to vote one week. However I take great exception with the sweeping genrealization that all voters don't have a clue. I for one, and know many others, spend time researching outcomes and take the poll very seroiusly. Polls are in fact conversation pieces and have stirred up converation on this thread. As long as there are polls there will be disagreement. But don't lump everyone together! As many great football fans have stated, the only poll that matters is what happens come playoff time.
  18. Greenfield over South Fulton by 10 -- I can't believe the media, etc., that were duped enough by South Fulton's 4-0 start to put them in the AP Top 10 one week. Greenfield is not that good, either, but they are somewhat better than the Red Devils. It's called not doing you research! What else is new. Some of us do, others look at records. That's why I'm disappointed the CoachT Media Poll seems to have floundered. It was going to represent people who took their voting seriously statewide.
  19. Coaches all have long memories just like they're all superstitious. No matter what they say. Could be interesting Big Wes. How are things on the hill?
  20. Just wish they would spring for concessions/bathrooms on the visitors side. Long walk & long lines when crowds are big. (like last Friday)
  21. Obion County celebrates homecoming Friday night at Rebel Field. Join my friend Robin Francis for EVERY PLAY of Obion County-Gibson County beginning at 7:00 on 97.7 FM right after The Pre-Game Meal!
  22. VG, Didn't they used to play this game on Thanksgiving or was that just in old Jackson High-Brownsville High days? I remember friends from Jackson telling me about Thanksgiving at Rothrock back in the 70's.
  23. I remember back in the 70's doing The Bump at certain establishments in Martin. I bet I can still BUMP
