  1. Since when did you start covering SG basketball. I dare say you have not seen very many SG games, so don't comment on them.
  2. I will have to say that I believe that SG and PF are the two best teams in the conference. I am not sure how the brackets will look, but I do believe they will be in the same bracket, which is a shame. These two teams should be in the finals together. One last comment! Thanks to PF for hanging their Championshiop Banner on the wall last night before the game. The fact that they hung it while SG's boys were sitting their watching just added the hunger the Rebels needed to take the district title. Thanks goes out to PF.
  3. If Sgt. Carter (Killion) hadn't made three bogus 5 second calls on SG last night, the outcome would have never been in doubt in the first place. Furthermore, PF shot better from the Free Throw Line last night than I have seen them shoot in some time. SG just wanted it a little more. One thing believe could have changed the outcome of the game though is if PF could get a few more guys to perform on their dance team! Come On! Seriously! Not only did they have a guy on the dance team, the dude couldn't event dance!
  4. My bad Kev B, you are correct! Mental lapse there! I just hope the Rebels don't have to face Union Co. in the tourney. They have a much better team than their record shows. Oh well, if SG gets it done Friday night, the #1 seed is theirs for the taking. Will they finish this year, or will PF steal their glory once again? We will have to see.
  5. SG got it done tonight against Union County. Hats off to the Union Co. bunch though, they gave SG all they could handle for the majority of the game. Sauceman and Wright came out on a mission in the second half. I don't know what Coach Hoese said at the half, but it sure worked. If the Rebels can get it done at PF on Friday night, it looks like they will lock up the #1 spot. If they don't get it done, either PF or CD will have the top spot. It ought to be a barn-burner!
  6. South Greene got the #3 pick in the tie-break. If they win out, they win the #1 spot for tournament brackets. SG has Union County at home tonight and Pigeon Forge on the road Friday night. Tough week, but it should happen!
  7. The Rebels got it done at the Gap tonight. It was ugly, but effective. Things are definately getting tight at the top. The Rebels being able to get the win with Sauceman on the bench due to fouls was huge for the team. The bench is really playing well right now!
  8. To all the Pioneer faithful, I commend your team. They, in fact, have played very well this season after losing two great players. The team is in a bit of turmoil, but I believe they played better last night than they did when the Reblels played them the first time. Coach K has some great young talent, and should be competitive for years to come.
  9. The charge call wasn't questionable! SG's kid was there forever. As for the score being misleading, this post is misleading. With the exception of about 2 minutes of the game, SG led the entire way. They finally got over the hump of Coach K's gimick defenses. By the way, Sauceman was sick and scored 28 and Wright was sick and scored 25. Nice job Rebels! Does anybody know who the top teams have left to play? The season is coming to a close, and it is going to be a battle!
  10. SG lost to Cocke Co. in a hard fought battle last night. The Rebels led by as many as 11 half way through the 3rd quarter, but Sauceman and Wright got into foul trouble. The team just could not match up with those two on the bench. As for SG vs Rutledge, it should be a battle. This will be SG's 4th game in 5 nights so legs could be a factor. Hopefully they will be able to overcome being tired. Rumor has it that Phelps quit the Rutledge team. Is there any truth? What is going on in Pioneer country?
  11. South Greene PUNISHED Greeneville last night in non-conference play (53-37) at Greeneville.
  12. jgarrison, looks like your not a coach??? Team discipline is much more important than wins. Yes, the twins and 1 other sat because of missing practice. It goes a little deeper, but that's all you need to know. I know most people on here likes gossip so I will not go into details.
  13. Why don't you ask SG how to tame Davy Crockett King of the Wild Frontier! U.C. wins easily at CG, and everthing is left up to Rutledge and SG.
  14. Does anyone have information on the games last night and the updated standings?
  15. How could anybody say that SG didn't deserve to win the game last year against U.C.? SG was defeated in overtime of the Regional semifinals. I would say they deserved to win the U.C. game. Has anybody ever thought that if officiating had not been terrible the entire game that SG would have won by 20? SG had to play 3/4 of the 2nd half without Caraway due to foul trouble. Furthermore, a foul in the first half is also a foul at the end of a game. NO QUESTIONS ASKED! There was contact in that game just as there was contact in the Kentucky win over Louisville that decided the game. A foul is a foul and that is the bottom line. Sauceman won the game by hitting 3 free throws at a crucial time. The officials didn't give him the 3 points. He earned them!
  16. High School officials make about $70 per night. A game lasts for approximately 90 minutes. If my math is correct, that comes out to about $23 per hour. Sounds like great money to me!!!!!
  17. I don't know what schools have the ability to hire the refs they want, but I know that our school does not. The TSSAA just assigns them. We have no idea who is coming until they show up. Furthermore, we have no ability to "black ball" officials anymore.
  18. I don't think the problem is just officials. The TSSAA has given the officials too much power. When an official has the power to eject a coach for two games and cost the coach $250 in fines, something is wrong. Especially when there is absolutely nothing a coach can do as far as controlling an official. Let's even things up! When an official screws up, allow coaches to suspend them for two games and fine them $250. I bet things would get interesting then!
  19. Who are you talking about that isn't ready? I think if Coach Hoese had a true pg, he would be doing everything he could to get him ready!
  20. First of all the coach's name is Hoese, and I am sure he will have his team will be ready to play. There's no doubt that blowing a 14 point lead late in the 3rd qtr to Rutledge will leave a bad taste in the Rebels' mouths throughout the break. There is some bad news for the rest of the league (Sauceman is beginning to play like he can). He had 26 points and 15 rebounds along with 6 assists at Rutledge. He just didn't get much help. Rohr is not shooting like he can and Donahue scored 11 in the first qtr but only 2 the rest of the game. SG will be fine and will still win the district. I predict the Cumberland Gap game will be a good one on Jan. 4, but expect this to be SG's breaking out party!
  21. South Greene beat Cocke County last night by 10. Friday night against Rutledge should be a great one. Rutledge is playing well at home and coach Combs always has his team ready to play against the Rebels. Last night's win against Cocke County may have gotten SG back on track though. They have struggled at times, but seem to play just above the talent level of their opponents. We will see! Chuckey Doak beating CG is not a suprise. When King and Lady come to play, they aren't bad. Rutledge must have shot the ball extremely well last night to have beaten WG like they did. WG usually slows the ball down and plays a zone or sagging man. Does anybody know where the points came from?
  22. Tracy Beets at West Greene is the man. Nobody knows more or works harder than Beets.
  23. From what I hear, the Panthers ARE the real deal! However, the Rebels are the real deal as well. SG has been consistenly putting up 60 or better points and Sauceman has not got into the basketball mode yet. Sauceman is averaging around 8 points per game. When he decides to get it going, the Rebels could be great. The Donahue kid has definately been an unexpected spark plug. As for the depth problem, SG can play about 8 kids. As with the CC game, they just can't play all of the subs together. Their bench (6-8) is solid.
  24. South Greene beat Claiborne (59-47). SG was up by 20 with 4 minutes to go and both coaches emptied the benches. Obviously the CC bench is better as a whole than SG's. Does anyone know the updated standings?
  25. Without a doubt, those are the top three.
