We (Murfreesboro Diamondbacks) are hosting the Connie Mack Southeast Regional in Murfreesboro July 27-30. Not just because we are hosting it, but it will bring in the 10 top Connie Mack teams in the Southeast. The winner will advance to Farmington, NM to play in front ot 10,000 people and the chance at the Connie Mack national championship. The East Cobb Yankees, Florida Bombers, Florida Pokers and Memphis Tigers are all annual qualifiers. The 16U SANDLOTT World Series will be in Tullahoma July 14-18. Several teams from all over the U.S. and even Canada will attend this event.

This is news to me. I have set up a couple of individual workouts for players to work out for scouts and have never been informed of this. Please email me and let me know if this is really the case. I was told as long as they do it at their own costs and the said organization doesn't pay for the players travel, equipment, etc. I remember when Jeremy Slayden went to Chicago (I may be mistaken on the city) and worked out for that team on their field before the draft.

We are part of the GNABA. However, we also play outside the league against some of the top teams in the country. We have the East Cobb Yankees, 'Bama Bombers, Dulins Dodgers and other teams of very high caliber scheduled for this summer. We were invited to several prestigious tournaments at various major colleges, however we are hosting the Connie Mack Southeast Regional in late July and turned down the offers to be able to host this. This will bring some of the top teams in the SE to the 'Boro for a chance to advance to Farmington, NM to play in the Connie Mack World Series. Usual qualifiers are the EC Yankees, Memphis Tigers, Florida Bombers, Florida Pokers among others. We also compete in the SANDLOTT Southern Super League that has some very solid teams in it. We are an 18U team. Cannot be 19 before August 1. In 2006, the date will change and I believe it is May1, but I might be wrong. I will stay mum on the prospects for next year. If a younger guy is good enough to compete against this type of talent, we are always interested. Bryan Morris has been with us since he was 16.

I recieved a phone call from the Yankees area scout that covers Ohio, Michigan, etc. and asked me to get in touch with Minor about attending the East Coast Showacase this summer. The Yankees are sponsoring this year from what he told me. I called Minor and relayed the gentleman's phone number for them to call about what needed to be done for this to happen. Not quite the same thing as suiting up in pinstripes, however, an honor to still be proud of. Shows how quick rumors get started.

Yes, Drew Kennett. A couple of nice prospects for next summer, also.

How has "Cobb" with Tommy Lee Jones not been mentioned? Maybe not the greatest, but still a good one. I have to go with Major League and Bull Durham as my all-time favorites.
-
Not sure about his stats, the two schools that have shown most interest are Motlow and Walters State. One of the Coffee fans can say for sure, but I believe he is 2-0 and not sure about his ERA and K's. I am sure they are solid overall.
-
Todd Gilley - LHP/OF from Warren County - Motlow State Lance Walker - OF/1B from Franklin County - Walters State If you already listed these guys, sorry, I just glanced the list real fast.

Bartlett beat William Blount 9-1 and Tullahoma was up 4-1 in going into the 4th when I had to leave (Morris not on the mound).

You do make valid points. However, like I mentioned before, going 4 year would only allow him to get drafted this year and not again for 3 years. Going Juco, he is eligible for the draft every year. Motlow did play for a national championship in 2000, finishing higher than any JUCO team from TN has ever finished. I know that it's not the same as the one in Omaha. Not taking it as a knock on Coach Morris, however, he did play Triple-A ball, his brother Steven just got released by the Yankees organization and his older brother Josh got drafted out of Motlow, then went to UT where the coaching should be better and didn't get drafted again. Sounds like the man knows a little something about teaching the game. Are you also saying that Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling should not have gone Juco? Maybe they should have gone somewhere that was better for them to "prepare for their careers." Albert Pujols, Adam Laroche, the list can go on for a while. And by no means am I saying Bryan is a Clemens or Schilling, however, nobody probably thought that Clemens or Schilling would be who they are at one point in time.

If Bryan goes to college, he will go to Motlow. That isn't being selfish on his dad's part. That is where Bryan wants to go. Besides, if he is a high pick this year and still goes to school, why would he want to go D1 and not be able to get drafted again for 3 years. It would be Bryan's decision on where he wants to go anyhow, not his dad's decision.

I will vouch for nearly every MLB team being represented, possibly all of them, I didn't actually count, but you could tell there were quite a few there. I know that there were 4 head scouts from different organizations, including the Yankees. When I say head scout (there may be a different name for the position) but he pretty much has the final say in who is taken and when in the draft from what I understand. One scout told me that Bryan was 88-92 steady the entire game, touching higher on occasion, curve at 78-82. As for other colleges being there, I don't know why they would even waste there time showing up. He is either going to sign or headed to Motlow where his dad is a coach.
-
From what I understand, Carlton is out 3-4 weeks. Not sure who will take his spot in the lineup while he is out.
-
Drew Kennett will be taking the hill tommorrow for Siegel against Columbia.

Warm summer night at MTSU in the 'Boro Bash. Sat on it for about 3 or 4 innings. Straight from the guy with the radar gun's mouth to me.
-
One guy that I left off is arguably the best player in the bigs right now, Albert Pujols came right out of JUCO into the Cardinals organization and into the bigs within a couple of years.

By no means am I a huge Vol State fan, though they do have a good program, I would hardly call them a crappy juco program. They have been ranked as high as 1 in the nation, though Motlow State beat them all 3 times they played them that year before Motlow finished 2nd in the JUCO World Series. Juco isn't just for the average high school guys, either. Braves first baseman Adam Laroche, Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens,John Lackey...., the list could go on of big names that played JUCO ball. I have even seen a guy that got drafted go JUCO and get cut from that school. Players do this for several reasons: to make sure that they don't go to some big school right off the bat and not get the playing time they need and not get any better or they may have a great shot of getting drafted, grades may need improving or a stepping stone to get to the school that they really want to go to. Very few players can step in at a good 4 year program and make an immediate impact as a true freshman, playing JUCO ball IS considered playing at the next level. If you don't think so, tell Clemens and Schilling they didn't play at the next level right out of high school. I know Clemens ended up at Texas and everybody knows the rest of the story.

I will vouch for Bryan touching 95, he was 90-93 for 3 innings against Mt. Juliet on Saturday at Smyrna. He has never sat on 95 for the entire game, but has touched it. Bubba, I have seen him top at 86-87, pretty darn hard for a lefty and that is what I have been told by several scouts that have seen him, also. Some people don't realize how hard the mid 80's really is to hit from the left side. Most of the time when people tell me that a kid is throwing 90, I assume that he is really 83-85 'cause that is what he really is when the guns hit him. That's not always the case, just that some people have no real idea how to tell how hard a guy is throwing. I just as soon wait until a gun is there to know for sure instead of being "that guy" that yells out, "He has to be throwing 90," when he is really only in the low 80's and it's dark out and it looks harder than what it really is. Bubba touched 86 on the gun only 3 or 4 of time in last year's region win over Riverdale, but he moved it in and out and "pitched" a great game overcoming something like 7 walks. Other than that, he was 78-83 on the gun. He topped at 87 for us last summer, which is not exactly just tossing it up there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bubba at 90, but I wouldn't say that he is throwing complete games sitting on 90. Webster did sit at 88 towards the end of the summer showing he is right up there, also.

I know that the Yankees (there may be more teams) have planned on seeing Bryan pitch on Monday against Siegel for some time now. Maybe Coach Hargrove is trying to accomadate is why he didn't throw against Oakland??? If this weather keeps up here in the 'Boro, nobody will be playing tommorrow.

Can't say that I have been to BGA, have been to Lebanon. Nice surrounding, playing surface needed a lot of work.
-
Laugh if you want, Middle TN Christian has a beautiful new facility. The surface is right up there with Oakland. I am just talking about the playing field, they haven't installed everything else as of last time I saw it a month or so ago. My vote would go to Tullahoma's Grider Stadium as the best overall. The atmosphere makes the place. Riverdale has chairbacks now, tore down the dugouts and are moving them back so that you can see the entire field when sitting on the top rows of the stands. This will make the "Reservation" one of the top places to watch a high school game.

Morris is scheduled to throw for Tullahoma.
