From the July 16 pages of The Wilson Post -- Wilson Central High’s new football coach Brad Dedman reports the annual Justice Jamboree will return to the WCHS campus Saturday, Aug. 14. Here’s the tentative matchups: * Portland freshmen vs Warren County jayvee * Mt. Juliet freshmen vs LaVergne freshmen * Wilson Central freshmen vs Donelson Christian Academy jayvee * Portland vs Warren County * Mt. Juliet vs LaVergne * Wilson Central vs Donelson Christian. The only contest still up in the air is the Southside junior high team vs. the WCHS jayvee. A decision on that contest will be decided closer to Aug. 14.

The Justice jamboree is back at Wilson Central as it has been for the past several years.

Some good baseball being played in Wilson County through next weekend with the 14U CABA World Series. Tourney sites include: Veterans Field and Eskew Field in Lebanon's Baird Park, Wilson Central, Mt. Juliet Middle School, Cumberland University and Friendship Christian. Pool play through Tuesday as the 31 teams get whittled down to 16 for a double-elimination. East Cobb, Cincy Flames, CT Bombers, 7 teams from Illinois are among the field. TN teams include: Hit-After-Hit, Franklin Heat, Nashville Dores Black, Lebanon Diamond Devils, Wilson County Bulldogs, Shoetiques from Smyrna and several others. $7 for all-day admission good at any field.

Visited the USSSA state tournament at Schumpert Park in Knoxville over the weekend at the field that will become Knox Central's new home. The field has some real potential -- big dugouts, only 367 to dead center, bullpens certainly need some work. The infield will improve as the years go by, but my biggest concern is the lack of an underground sprinkler system. If the heat keeps up the field will "burn up". This should have been addressed on the front end. Will cost a lot more to go back in at some point and get this done.

They are now saying the driver of the other vehicle was drinking. Four kids doing nothing wrong and an impaired driver does this. TERRIBLE!

Rising Watertown High senior Tyler Russell died Wednesday night following a two-car accident on the Sparta Pike. Russell, a D-Lineman for the Purple Tigers, was a passenger in a car with two teammates and a younger boy (brother of one of the other players). They were headed to pick up some clothes so they could spend the night together, then go to workouts together the next morning. Their vehicle was struck by a car driving on the wrong side of the road and was spun into a bluff. The other three were treated and released, Tyler died at the scene. Bond Memorial Chapel in Mt. Juliet is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services 10 a.m. Monday at the Galdeville Baptist Church. Terrible tragedy. By all accounts, Watertown lost a fine young man.

Just got back from a hot weekend in Shelby County. Our team played at the GameDay / First Tennessee Complex and had a great time. Outstanding concept, field were in very good condition, umpiring was consistent, communication from tournament organizers was much better than we are used to. Our family members loved the covered seating areas and air-conditioned concessions. The kids appreciated fans in the dugouts. How does the Jackson facility compare?

The Wilson Post website is reporting OVC hall of famer Larry Joe Inman has been named as the new coach of the Devilettes.

I didn't think the good ole boy system had very much to do with the last two hirings at LHS. The program was in such bad shape that they had to beg boys assistant Darian Brown to take it, and he did a great job. When he left they struck gold with Ashley Johnson.

My feelings exactly. Surfice it to say, the job is attracting high-quality folks.

Interviews for the job have begun. At least one candidate on campus today.

Coach Johnson received a fellowship at Michigan State University.

Wade will be the associate head coach under Bowers. Expect announcement next week. Look for assistant Bill Alexander to get serious consideration for the DA head job.

What's up at Gallatin. The gallatin Newspaper is reporting Hunt was asked to resign Thursday afternoon. Anderson is taking over as interim. What gives?

Tonight's Region 4A boys finals between Red Boiling Springs and Friendship Christian will be played at Watertown High instead of LA. Tip-off at 7 p.m.

MJ quarterback Reed Gurchiek will sign with Lebanon's Cumberland University Tuesday afternoon.

Here's a couple -- Wilson Central at Lebanon will be played Thursday night. Half of the gate will go to Coaches Vs. Cancer. Also Mt. Juliet at Portland has been moved to Thursday night.

Tonight's scheduled Knox Webb game at MJ Christian has been canceled due to concerns about the weather. It will NOT be made up.

Beech at Lebanon has been moved up to Thursday night in anticipation of heavy rains all day and night Friday. Kickoff at 7 p.m. at Nokes-Lasater Field.

I hadn't been to McMinnville in several years, but made the trip Tuesday for the Baird Junior High - WCMS game. I came away VERY impressed with the upgrades to the stadium. The pressbox went from the worst to one of the very best in Middle TN. Of course, the landscaping is fantastic with the shrubs spelling out Pioneers in the endzone. The lighting was top notch, the seating section was clean and that out beat-up concession stand on the visitors side has been demolished and hauled away. Well done Warren County! When did the change over begin and what did it take for the school system to get off ground zero? Who pushed for the improvements?

Central fans -- please help me out. Which Wildcat blocked the McGavock punt late in the game and who recovered it in the endzone for a TD? Also, the Stewart kid who scored for WC in the 1st quarter -- which one was that? There are a couple on the team. Thanks.
