  1. As a matter of fact little old Bradford in Single A and Jackson Central Merry in Triple A ( both right here in west tn) won the gold balls in their classes, same year, same day, same town! Look it up! All three gold balls came to West Tn!
  2. Some of this stuff is so childish! (Devilforlife & midtnbb) Guessing neither of you have seen GC girls play. Watch what you say. 1996! Martin Westview ~ right here in ole West Tn brought the big gold ball home!
  3. Way to go sportsradiotn. You're pretty smart.
  4. P--lease, with all the we have more "cheerleaders" in the stands. Lady Tide all the way!
  5. Oh yeah, I could not believe either Tyler got MVP in the district. Tyler is a good player but only a sophmore so think of what's ahead for him. I just KNEW MVP would be Strayhorn. Guess I'm not as smart as I thought! So let Dane know many people who have seen him play (who are not from Halls) were rooting for him.
  6. bballfever, you make some good pionts that I havd not thought of but, it's my understanding that the coaches are the ones that really push for their player to be recognized. It is understandable that Shane would get some votes just from making an appearance at state last year. And he is indeed a great player and I think Strayhorn has as many strong points as Shane. And as you mentioned he is not the tallest of tall players, which to me says more for his talent. But, think about this...(and maybe you know)....Meredith Richardson was not in the state tournament last year & she won Miss Basketball! And she will not be there on the court this year, but she is a finalist this year also.
  7. Well, if both teams are playing by the rules ( which do not say any player may take free throws when a foul is called), then Halls will be the winner. If we are playing by the rules of the former Greenfield coach, then Greenfield may very well win. If I am correct the coach now was the assistant to the former head coach. So wonder where he learned his techniques? Even so Greenfield has some players that know what to do with the ball. Obviously, Shane is a great player & the Blackburn kids. Galey does his part and so on and so on. But it really stinks up a game when you see what happened 2 times in last nights game! Twice the wrong shooter went to the line, olny the second time was caught by Whitby. This was not just an accidental one time thing. I've seen Blackburn go to the line time & time again when he had no business being there. Sometimes the refs will say hey it was # whatever AND sometimes it works. Just as it did last night, it worked the first time Blackburn jumped up there and then it almost worked for Shane, he even got one shot up. For those of us who just want to see good teams play good ball, this puts a "foul" odor in the air! I'll be rooting for the best team to win, which appears to be Halls!
  8. Rascal70, J.J. Williams is not on the team, so I'm like you ....why would he even be mentioned? Niccheaus did a great job. Greg did a great job. Ashburn had a couple of knock aways & a steal & a 3. Fields came in with good minutes. Brunson was a little more aggressive than usual. But the turnovers were a BIG factor! Some players have no business trying to come up the floor with the ball. Don't understand why they keep trying it when time after time the other team takes it away. Don't understand why they keep trying to do it when the coach keeps saying PASS IT. Everytime the wrong ball handler tried to bring the ball up the court last night, Halls knew it & stepped right in and took it away. Plain & simple. Which in turn makes Hall the better team. Strayhorn at first was a little cold, but I knew he would not be the whole game. And just as I figured Nance & Tates produced as did Winston's bench. By the way, does anyone know why Dane Strayhorn is not in the running for Mr. Basketball?
  9. Since Trenton and Gleason did not meet in the regular season, the question is can Gleasons young team handle Trentons defense? Coach Fraiser has been to quiet a few of Trentons game, so I'm sure he has a game plan he's hoping will work.
  10. What was that? Did the Lady Lions know the game was last night? Not caring one way or the other, I was leaning toward Dresden. But gees you have to shoot & hit to win a game. Paige Hughes is the only player that had a little fire. Where was Levister? This was not a typical game for her nor Bailey. The Lions were scoreless in the 3rd ~~ Gleason took advantage. Yet still, Dresden could have won. The next big challenge for Gleason......will they be able to hang with the Lady Tide ? Not, if the Lady Tide are ON their game!
  11. PioneerPete, you should save the boasting until next weekend. The odds are in GC's favor, but anything can happen this time of year. Wouldn't you feel like a big idiot then? It would be incredible if the Lady Pioneers brought the gold ball home, but let's not spoil it by bragging too early. Best of luck Baird, Farrar, Reese, Dudley, McElrath, Coleman, Scruggs

  13. I just posted somewhere else about this same issue. Peabody will have to be aggressive the whole game to keep up with Halls. Not only do they have to keep a check on Strayhorn ( he's quick & can kill a 3) and Nance, but Walter Tates is right in there. Any of the three of them will take the ball away in a flash. Hoping Trenton can pull it off.
  14. Storm is absolutely right........ aggressive is what Peabody will have to be the whole game against Halls. Halls will never slow down, they will keep coming at you. Along with Strayhorn and Nance you have to watch for Walter Tates. Halls will turn the ball over very few times. Foul trouble may be the only thing to slow the Tigers.
  15. I'm leaning toward Lake County, although Brandon Shane is a tough player. He does just what he sets out to do every game. Blackburn pushes off all the time, if he gets away with alot of that it could make a difference in the game in Greenfields favor!
  16. By the way even your local Wal-Mart has a mandated drug test if you want to work for them. You need not apply if you feel it is against your rights, they won't hire you unless you pass one and that's the way it should be.
  17. If the students are not using drugs, what's the big deal? It's not a big deal unless you're not wanting to get caught. There is no room for drugs in school. The students have too much to learn, too much at stake to allow in any way an opening for drugs. Responsible parents would take EVERY opportunity to ensure their children are as safe as possible while learning the lessons that will carry them successfully through a fruitful life. Not to do so is appaulling. Drug habits that are "allowed" now will carry into the next step in life, which will eventually mean these children will have children and so on and so on. What a sad situation that some people's grandchildren will live in a life full of sorrow, poverity, stealing, cheating what ever it takes for their parents to get another fix. All because some parents yell it's our right not to have to be tested! Where do you think the children get their excuses? Everyone should be held accountable for their actions! This includes ANY student that uses drugs. Some drug use, if not all is irreversible. This means FOR THE REST ON ONES LIFE just trying to make it through another day. It seems to me those who say nay have something to hide.
  18. What a great job Stephen Harshaw did with the GCHS team this season. They had some very close games! Even in the district tournament! It was high time GCHS had a boys coach that could do something. Not only does his coaching seem to be effective, he seems to be a very friendly people person. Kudos to you Stephen Harshaw!!
  19. Blackburn does push off, alot. And the crowd goes nuts, but it is not that often he gets called for it. If he gets away with it Tuesday it could make a big difference in the game.
  20. It was hard for other teams to keep Meredith from scoring 30 points in some games, but boy did they try. Some games, the other Lady Red Devils were free to head to the basket because they were so concentrated on Meredith. What a testiment to her talent! If she couldn't get it inside, she'd just shoot it at nearly 1/2 court. What a player. One thing that really impresses me about Meredith is you never see her "show-boat" after a tough lay-up nor a l o n g three. She'd make the shot and head to the other end. She has my vote again for Miss Basketball.
  21. After seeing both teams play several different teams this season, I'm leaning toward Lake County. They have several key players. Although Brandon Shane is a tough player. He does just what he sets out to do every game.
  22. Storm, Why do you say Coach Sisco has hatred for Easley? Why would any coach hate a"child" on a team? I am sure that Tre loves bball as do all the other players on the team. Why else would you even try out for the team? But there are only 5 starter positions. The coach has to decide what is best for his style of play. And a good player will do whatever the coach asks of him & not question it. If the players do just what the coach asks and the game is lost, point the finger at the coach. If the players do not do what the coach wants and do their own thing........... is it still the coachs' fault? I think not. Sometimes it is the players that lose the game. Like it or not. I think you must not know the coach very well to say such things. He is a christian man also. By the way I seriously do not think God cares in the least about bball nor who plays & who does not. If I remember correctly Tre is a sophmore. He has 2 great years ahead, his time is coming for plenty of play.
  23. Trenton can beat Halls! But only if they put their best foot foward like they did Saturday nite. I think that is the best I've seen them play. They played more like a team and had the hustle that some of their other games have been missing. They must hustle and keep it up the whole game to hang in there with Halls.
