  1. I will add my toe cents about the Bradford kid and Hubbs. Both have come to out gym and played and I got a chance to see them both. I heard about Hubbs coming in and he played a decent game when he came to Haywood. That particular night he didn't stand out anymore than any one else. I'm not saying that he couldn't play, I'm just saying he wasn't a dominant player that night. In contrast, I new nothing about Bradford because I don't usually get a chance to see single A teams. This kid was dominant from the beginning to the end of the game. Strong, athletic, confident. He doesn't have the best form on his shot, but it goes in from time to time. I only learned about who he was after the game when someone on the board asked about how did he play. Then I did my homework and found out more about him. I think this kid has a good future ahead of him. Once again, I'm not downing Hubbs at all. Just saying that's how you know a kid has talent. He comes in the gym unknown and you end up asking "Who is that?" Bradford did that.
  2. Yes we will meet again. Good luck to you all as well. If he is number 1, he is one tough player. Made several tough shots, played physical, and dunked the ball so hard a couple times.
  3. I must admit we were stroking it pretty good last night. We have been fortunate to shoot it well most nights this season!!
  4. Good game. Humboldt has a solid team. I still hate the fact they weren't at full strength. Go Tomcats!
  5. Jordon Varnado is Jarvis's brother. Alandis Delk is Tony's great nephew. Sadarius and Xavier Delk are brothers and they are Tony's cousins. I hope that it will be a good game. Hate that Humboldt won't have their whole team playing.
  6. The Tomcats continue to be undefeated so far. Took down Southwind in OT last night. Play again tonight. If you have seen the Tomcats, what you think about them so far? Don't hear much talk about them as usual.

  8. Haywood's new football coach is Paul "Slade" Calhoun. Defensive coordinator from Brighton High School.
  9. Yes Kenny is a Senior this year. The majority of our player were Seniors. He is a very underrated player in my opinion. This kid could not play basketball in his 7th grade year. He worked hard and he made the team his 8th grade year. He then developed into the starting guard and has held the position ever since. Congrats Tomcats on a fine season.
  10. I was sitting in front of the gym for about an hour or more waiting on the lights last nite. We were all geared up and ready to go. There were SOOOOOOOO many Haywood fans sitting outside waiting. Hope to see a good game tonite and I hope that we get the chance to make it back to Murfreesboro. LETS GO HAYWOOD!!!!
  11. This season gave us some of the best matchups I have seen in a loooooooooooong time. I like the way the top dogs went out of their way to schedule each other. You should never be scared to play anyone if you have a good team. Forget having those pretty records and at the end of the year go home early because you havent been tested. Put you record on the line, suit it up and play and see who is the best. Hopefully, in years to come, there will be opportunities for some of the best teams to get together and play.
  12. Yeah but that doesnt count. You actually thought McMinn was better than everybody else in the state too. Send that team that you had down this way and they wouldnt even make it out of some of these districts. We know for a fact there were not many Liberty supporters before now. Watch though they will be coming out of the woodwork. I was saying all along they would beat Mitchell. Dont get me wrong, Mitchell's team was very talented. But I never thought they could win the big one. I dont like to say anything about coaching, but when it comes to X's and O's, Im not so sure about their coach. That is not meant to be an insult. I just have seen questionable things he has done with the game on the line.
  13. Its easier for county schools to get support like that. First of all we have rich basketball tradition in Bolivar and Brownsville. Second of all we only have one school in these cities so everyone rallies behind them. In Jackson, you have Liberty, Northside, Southside, JCM, Trinity, USJ, Madison, JCS. Hope I didnt leave anyone out, but I think you get the picture. The loyalty is somewhat split because of the different schools. We, on the other hand, only have one school.
  14. Baseballa, Thanks for the compliment on the teamwe had this year and the one we have coming back next year. You were the one person I had in mind when I said what I said about being true to Liberty. You have said that since day one and I acknowledge that. Haywood played as tough an in state schedule as anyone this year. Congrats to Liberty and Coach Williams on winning the whole thing. It makes those losses we took to Liberty sting a lot less. I know there will be a lot of Liberty bandwagoning because people always want to roll with the champ.
  15. There are soooooooooo many bandwagon people on this board. As soon as Bolivar won the state championships everybody said they were unbeatable. No one would take Bolivar from the throne. They were supposed to three peat this year. Bolivar threads would go on and on for 10 pages. Not many people on here were even talking about Liberty earlier in the year. Most people outside of West TN had no idea as to who they were. Even though at the time the only team that had beat them was Bolivar. Now mysteriously after the state tournament people are on the Liberty bandwagon. People are not talking about Bolivar much. People are already saying that Liberty will repeat as champs again next year. No one even mentions much of the fact that Hamilton went 39-0 and won the state. People are not congratulating them, but are bashing their coach. Still saying the man cant coach, talking about he did not have any class. People seem to find a team that they like each year and just ride their jock to death. Dont get me wrong you are all entitled to your opinion just dont be a bandwagon fan. JUST WATCH HOW MANY LIBERTY POST WILL COME IN THE FUTURE. In closing, I would like to say congrats to Haywood and Coach Varnado and the guys. Excellent season fellas you have nothing to be ashamed of. 31-5 (Regular season champs, District Tournament champs, Regional champs, Substate winner. The losses this season were 3 to AA State Champ Liberty, 1 to A State Champ Union City, and 1 to two time AA State Champ Bolivar. I would say that makes for a pretty good team regardless of what people on this board will and wont acknowledge. I cant wait to see what next years team is able to accomplish.
  16. If you look at it though, there are many teams outside of Memphis winning championships. You take Bolivar the past two years, Liberty this year that won championships. Union City and Middleton won championships the past two years also. In west TN there are not many AAA schools anymore so thats why if anyone from the west has a chance at those its a Memphis school. I think West TN is so dominant because kids here love basketball. We have rich basketball traditions at schools like Haywood, Bolivar and others. The small kids grow up looking to the high school players as their idols. They dream of the day they put those uniforms on. Also you have strong middle school and junior high programs in places such as Bolivar and Haywood and other places. Kids also want to be a part of those teams because they are winners. The west is dominant in Basketball because of tradition in alot of these towns and communities.
  17. What gold? Tell me this, when was the last time that 13AA was dominant. 14AA has ruled the region for quite some time. Each year seems to be a rematch of the 14AA district tournament in the region finals. Fayette Ware beat Westview to death in the the regional tournament. Not to mention what Haywood did to the 13AA teams we played.
  18. Looks like a Tornado is stronger than a Cloud huh??
  19. Thanks for that comment anthony. You would think Haywood is a sub .500 team the way people have counted them out. Haywood was leading Liberty in the first game. It was a big lead also. They had one bad stretch and ended up losing the game. There was also another bad stretch in the second game. So it is not like Liberty dominated Haywood this year. A few lapses cost the game.
  20. Have you seen Liberty play this year? If you have you should know that Josh Irvin joined the team after Christmas. He was not instrumental in anything they did to my knowledge.
  21. When did they play this game? I guess I must have missed it. Liberty already beat Haywood and they havent even played the game yet. See this is what I mean about Haywood being the underdog. We have been to the Boro four straight years, Liberty shows up and has one great season and they already get respect on this board. In a way, I hope our guys read coacht. This should motivate them alot. Even jsills, who is from Haywood, doubts his own team. They have one, Brandon Evans, who signed with Murray State. We have one of the best shot blockers in the state, if not the country, in Jarvis Vanardo. He is signed with Mississippi State.
  22. Why do we have to wait and see? Haywood has made it to the state tournament with 3 sophmores starting. That isnt an accomplishment? If you check the list from unapproved website that was just posted, check out the #10 and #15 players. Harrison Jones was ranked a little further down the list.
