  1. Great win by a great team. Congratulation MUS. You guys have a heck of a schedule this year. I look forward to the WSHS game ( I think ) but regardless that is a signature win. I have already watched the game once, may have to watch it again !
  2. Great win by WSH 33-13 over a tough opponent ( and it of course did not help the Tigers that Jefferson was hurt ). http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/20 ... -spartans/
  3. Tonight, at White Station. Raleigh has a very good team. Not sure about tip off time.
  4. It's not often that you see that many legitimate D1 players on the floor at one time, especially in a non-playoff game. Should be a great game against R.E. tonight.
  5. I had not looked at the starting time, I will be there !
  6. I am glad to see Millington in the Bridges Classic. That early game is hot, and tough on the kids, but I think the out of conference play is good for everyone. Let's the team gell and the coaches see what they have before they start playoff runs.
  7. They are fun games to watch, if I did not have an office Christmas party that night I would go .
  8. Wow what a thrilling game , we almost gave it away at the end, but our defense came through. Germantown regrouped at halftime and almost roared back. What an exciting year so far, great job new coach Rutherford and staff, and great job team. Three fumbles almost did us in, and we sure cannot do that against Franklin, but our guys know that. Thanks for coming out Millington and Bartlett fans, we appreciate the support.
  9. With both of my Spartans in college now I just didn't visit these boards as much as I meant to. We will be at next weeks game. I am very impressed with the new staff, and with this year's kids. Hopefully my kids will be back in town for the game.
  10. Boy, I must admit that after the first couple of games we played this year that I could not have predicted that the Spartans would get this far again. Super job by the new staff and the players. And Millington, straight back to back undefeated regular seasons, incredible.
  11. Congratulations to both teams. As a Spartan fan, of course I am happy we won ( last years' game was a tough one , especially as my son was a graduating senior then ) . But hats off to the Trojans, another great year. After our game last year we were pulling for Millington to win it all. I hope some of you will consider coming out to watch us play the Red Devils, or at least pray for some good weather, no injuries, and a WSHS victory .
  12. So Zac Cordel didn't play this year? What happened ?
  13. http://www.murphyfair.com/prospects.aspx Another site showing prospects, but I think it is preseason. Seems that IHS' QB, LB, and RB are highly thought of.
  14. Right, the stats I listed above were from a 2004 report on all ( then ) current players, and Memphis was listed as the hometown of Millington players as well. For some reason Germantown players were listed separately. One site showing current college prosects :http://hstennessee.scout.com/a.z?s=379&p=9&c=4&yr=2008 Ind. shows 3, my Spartans 1 ( go Jordon ). Symrna a bunch ! Btw, where is Thompson City in relation to Nashvile proper ?
  15. I think it's going to be Bearden v Millington in the finals. And there is absolutely no reason you should listen to me.
  16. Well, we certainly have some passionate posters in this thread. And thank you coach for your thoughts, they are welcome indeed. Much has been written about the relatve lack of State Title wins by W. TN teams. There was a very interesting thread regarding this in the general football section. What I found intriguing is that W. TN teams have actually been to the finals as often as one would expect statistically speaking. What is not at issue is the athletic ability of players from around here ( in 2004 there were 33 players in the NFL, 13 from the Memphis area alone, 4 more from Jackson TN. Heck, Melrose itself had 5, about as many as all of E. TN ). I think there are at least two major factors at play here. First, Memphis contains a huge number of the schools involved in W. TN athletics, and I think our school system does not do a good job at all in properly funding or supporting athletics. Almost no city school has its own stadium, and most of the weight rooms are substandard. Second, by and large, the community support that a school gets when its the only "game" in a small town or middle class suburb vs that of a school located in a large city cannot be overestimated. Just some food for thought. 'Nuff of the philosophizing, we can discuss these issues more after the season is over.
  17. Ah, good point. It's a small thing, but there is a decent concession stand on the visitors side, 'tho the restrooms are on the home team side. Fortunately the visitors team gets to use a gym for changindg, etc that is both right next to the visitors' stands and mere yards from the field entrance so the set up is pretty good compared to other places we have played.
  18. hehe, well Graceland is worth going to at least once, and we will talk later in the week about some BBQ, LOT's of places to go for that. Tell your fans to get there early ( before 5 pm ) if you want to tailgate any, parking is a bit tight if you want to get some people together. There is a small prking lot near the visitors side that is ideal for some people who want to park next to each other. We parked closer to the home team side near the main ticket booth. We had no problem geting in and out, there were plenty of police moving cars along, etc. And the Millington fans were good sports, no smack talking, etc.
  19. Well, yes, I am probably a bit shell shocked tbh. And I also am finding it hard to believe that I wached my son play his last high school game, boy where has the time gone. But Millington really is one of the best teams I have seen in a while. That having been said, the above is an interesting story. Persevering through that sort of adversity really turns boys into men. Sounds like thats a good group you have there. Bet you are like me, can you believe it's those seniors last season ?
  20. Trust me, Millington can handle any shoot out they get into. And I do know what you are saying about heart, but these kids are on a mission. Millington and fragile do not belong in the same sentence. They can hurt you in so many ways. They swarm on defense just the way you see all great teams do. They can run down your players from any spot on the field. And did I mention they will hit you hard, every single time , on every play. And they are big, and...... you get the picture.
  21. And I do want to say that I thought that Millington played a good, clean game. And they were good sportsmen from what I could tell as a fan. I do wish parking was a bit better , but that's a minor issue.
  22. WSHS is good. But I think Millington is one of the best high school teams I have seen in a very long time. They are big, strong, fast and will knock your head off. A stable of backs that are quick, smart and never stop. This is one Spartan fan that will be sitting on the Millington side next week pulling for the next 5A champs. Go Trojans ! And don't let anyone tell you Millington cannot pass, they can. And don't let anyone tell you the Trojans' secondary is suspect, they are not. And their kicking game is just fine. If Millington holds onto the ball, there is no stopping them imo.
  23. Congratulations Spartans on a great year. 12-1 this year, 24-3 last two years, and 42-9 over the last four years. To Stuart, Evan, Jeff, Martin, Derrion, Jordan, Michael and all the other seniors what a great 4 years it's been . Some of you have played together for 6 years, you have accomplished so much; how many people go undefeated in a season , ever ! Your parents, family, friends and fans all thank you for a wonderful time. Go Spartans !
  24. Well I just watched this year's state champs beat the holy heck out of my Spartans. Great game Trojans, you are the real deal. Not sure I have seen a better team in a long time. Great team all 'round. I think your passing game is better than average if you really wanted/needed it to be. What a stable of backs ! I don't think we have seen that much overall team speed ever. You guys are going to win it all this year, and I hope I can be there to watch.
  25. Good point about both the toughness of the last few games, as well about keeping the ball away form WSHS. Length of possesion, ball control, etc allow run oriented teams to control the tempo of a game. At the high school level especially, very good passing games seem very, very difficult to sustain, I believe that's one of the reasons you see so many schools with run oriented offenses. It appears to me to be easier to disrupt pass oriented teams at this level than it is to stop the running games of teams filled with big linemen and a stable of big backs. Better than average, CONSISTENT passing teams that also have a good running game are sort of rare , that's why so many schools have trouble coping with such a team, their defenses aren't used to dealing with sets that are so variable. Having said that, I have also noticed that a team full of good athletes , with good coaching, and that has some depth usually ends up adjusting pretty well when it's all said and done. If this game isn't fairly close I am going to be shocked. And home field advantage helps !
