  1. I actually like your opionion of what the job of the announcer should be. My question is on these broadcasts.....is it just one guy doing play-by-play or a duo?
  2. Funny, once again it's Fairley that beats WS in a post-season game( i.e. 2001) This time it was for a city title and not an elimination game but this is exactly why getting out of Memphis is the hard part.
  3. Well, thank you to the Fairley Bulldogs for proving my point. They beat White Station for the Memphis City Championship tonight has you may have read already. That had to have been a great game.
  4. I've aquired all these stats and records via information provided by this site: Bolivar(22-3), Pickett Co(24-6), Giles Co( 23-5)....that's a great year Portland(15-10), Perry Co. (15-11).....good year but not great. Montgomery Central(11-8)...Not what I'd call really good( besides of those 11 wins only 3 teams have a winning record.) I think one thing to keep in mind about metro teams like Memphis is that there are a lot of good teams with decent records that would have great records if they were in a rural area. For example, Booker T. Washington is 16-10 but they've played White Station(29-1) and Raleigh Egypt(25-3) twice plus Mitchell(21-9) and Sheffield(18-5).I'm not taking ANYTHING away from any of the teams you listed because a 20-win season is a 20-win season but I think those are harder to come by in a big city.
  5. The hard part is getting out of Memphis.
  6. Oh but Mas if you were to gloat that would only be pointless and bring down a team's pride
  7. True but it doesn't show any self-control either. What happened to that player was a horrible, horrible acciedent and certeinly may raise some concerns about fans rushing the floor but what those guys did was just plain idiotic.
  8. Yeah, it's all the CA can( or will) do to cover so many teams as there are in Memphis. If Jackson carries the best teams outside Memphis in the rest of the west that gives those teams coverage. I can see how that could lead to some misunderstanding. There are six schools close to Memphis( excluding Cordova who will be a city school next year and soon-to-be Arlington) those schools being: Bartlett,Bolton,Collierville,Germantown, and Houston. On average Bartlett usually plays at least one or two Memphis City teams. This year they played three( White Station, Woodale twice, and Memphis Central) Germantown, Houston, and Collierville all play in a district with Memphis Schools. I think the county schools go into the city more than one might think but I'm not sure how things work in a city like Nashville.
  9. Dyersburg, Dyer Co, Jackson Northside, and Union City to name a few. I think the west overall as there are many great teams in the region. It's just that Memphis teams carry a lot of weight in that category.
  10. oh...ok...I misread that. I agree BC is the team to beat in the east
  11. Woodale is really good but not tops in Memphis. I'd put Raleigh-Egpyt and White Station ahead of them
  12. Hey, I'm with you as a UK fan. Glad to see another Wildcat fan BUT that's not a great example. They didn't have to show a mob mentality they just destroyed a tv in a rage with half-full beer cans. Passion yes, but still misdirected passion.
  13. Yeah, I just learned tonight that the Trojans were without one of their top players. Scary thought being that they almost won the game anyway
  14. Baseball is in( how many games is totally up in the air). As far as soccer goes, I know home games wouldn't be a problem as far as where to set up( same as football)....but after a LOOOOONG basketball season.( we'll see how often Opperman is in town..hehe ) I know we want to expand as much as we can.
  15. The thing about Bolton is A) they are a lot less athletic than usual and B ) they have a 1st year head coach. Yeah, they were overrated to begin with but I don't think they are all that bad. Plus, they have great size. Their starting line-up ( as of tonight) is 5-11, 6-5, 6-5, 6-6, and Chris Webber who had no height listed but is easily over 6-4. Granted, I'm not trying to defend Bolton at all( as a Bartlett grad I can't stand to..haha) but I gotta give them credit. They've got a lot better and earned a great win tonight. That said, Dyersburg should have hit their free-throws and then that game isn't so close.
  16. Bolton upset Dburg at Bolton tonight 51-48. It was a pretty close game from start to finish but free throws killed the Trojans( 3 for 8 on the night). Overall, a good physical game by both teams. Bolton Patrick Brandon--2 Jason Smiley-- 12 Marcus Lewis--7 Chris White--6 Micheal Jacques-6 Aaron Jacques--12 Chris Pruiett-- 2 William Ruoff--2 Dyersburg Sam Smith--3 John Bolan--5 Rickey Jones--4 Roderick Simmons--6 Stuart Taylor--8 Jeremy Taylor--9 Dejuan Maclin--2 Terrance Maclin--11
  17. I didn't mean to single you out. I meant UT fans in general. I thought I had edited that but I guess I didn't. My bad( a word to the wise...never post when a BIG hurry...lol )
  18. None of us would be here if we were not fans of Tennessee high school sports. Uk fans are only defending their school just as you are defending UT.( although in my arguement I personally would not have brought up cheerleading) I would rather bring up seven national championships. Also, I give creit to UT for topping the Cats 62 times. Yup, nobody is the SEC even close to that. Of course, this is opposed to the 133 wins against the Vols. But hey, to show I'm just a basketball fan in general, I'm shocked none of the Vols fans here brought up UT's women's basketball program. Pat Summit has done an incredible job in making the Lady Vols one of the best women's programs in the country( save UConn). There, props to both schools. See kids, we can be civil
  19. Hmmm...BC didn't seem to accept that excuse when they beat White Station. I have no doubt that BC is the better team but the better team doesn't always win. See my 1st sentence. I guess since beating White Station made Bradley Central the best team in the state then that makes Cleveland tops in TN J/K guys I'm sure BC will bounce back. I wish a speedy recovery to Kellen Pickle as well.
  20. The Bartlett Lady Panthers(18-7) have struggled since christmas and thus have locked up 3rd place in 14-AAA rather than a 1st or 2nd place finish most Panthers fans may have been looking for. However, Bartlett played spoiler last Friday night. The Lady Panthers marched in Cordova and handed the Wolves(18-9) their first district loss of the year. Now, in order to secure a 1st place finish and an appearance in the Shelby Co Championship, Cordova will have to win this Tuesday at Bolton( 18-7) which is a very difficult place to get a victory. Should the Wolves lose then Cordova and Bolton will tie for 1st and the result will be the dreaded coin toss. In any event, I hate doing Bolton any possible favors but it was a great win for Bartlett and it's nice to put some heat on the Memphis City School bound Cordova Wolves.
  21. True and much props to the Bulldogs. Meanwhile UT is 0-1 vs. UK this season. As far as my reason for "hating" on UT, I've spent half my life in Ky so I grew up a UK fan and now I attend the U of M. So both UT and Louisville are not high on my affection list. Anyway, somebody had a great point. This isn't a Kentucky site and nor is it a UT site. Matter of fact, this whole thread has strayed far from the topic.
  22. Yeah. you're absolutly right. That's why Kentucky sells out game at Rupp and UT had a whopping 11,000 at Thompson-Bowling Arena against Arkansas recently. If only UK fans cared as much as Vols fans do
  23. That's very true. JNS is now 2-0 against Dburg and it only gets harder trying beat a team for a third time(district tourney)....and possibly a fourth in the region
