  1. I would say GQ make close to or around $100,000 a year with all the extras. Hard to say. I think QB clubs have donors that will kick in from time to time. If I were Maryville, I would not let GQ leave. If I were any other program, I would try to hire him, or copy his mold. That is one thing I don't get about DB and their pee wee, middle school teams. Make them all the same. South seems to grasp this concept better. When DB had a run of semi final games, I think they had a great pop warner in place. Then I heard money or something else as an excuse to the demise of that.
  2. I agree Brandon. It is a bit odd. CommonSense, I will never agree that one location (middle TN) is fair. I am one of those that thinks it should rotate around the state to a suitable facility. I will even say that a team hosting the championship game at home is best, though crowds can be too much on some stadiums.
  3. Remember though, football makes money at UT. Some money helps out the academics as well.
  4. That would rock! But, do you think he would leave?
  5. Tell what coach is the talk for Greeneville. Come on!
  6. screw me? About Phil? I was just kidding. Hope you were not directing that towards me. If so, lighten up, it was a joke. Oh. I see who you were mad at
  7. Maryville does not overlook teams. Thats why they are so great. I am telling you folks Maryville is the great wall of China to get over in the East. But never think it is a lock to get past Maryville. There is some 4A ball across the state played on a higher level that we are not used to, just like in 5A. It matter not next year though. Different classifications. I looked through some future playoff opponents for South and it does not look any easier. I predict Knox Catholic will become the next wall for upper East TN teams in 5A next year (south's classification) It is, it is
  8. Memphis has had a few. Not as many lately, but more when compared to the Tri Cities. Melrose, MUS, Christian Brothers to name a few. Basketball is more their thing. Slice it any way you want! I don't know the reason. My stat still stands true. I base it more on location, not size of city. West of Morristown owns us.
  9. The point is in 4A as in 5A the larger areas, Knoxvill, Chattanooga, Nashville, and Memphis all dominate schools in our area when we meet. Region 1 4A gets to avoid these teams until late in the playoffs. DB does not. Simple
  10. South played a MUCH weaker season. It shows when McMinn came to DB. South still only has 1 (one) win over a team west of Morristown. DB has a ton of wins in that regard. South points to Maryville. Forget Maryville, South has never evern beat anyone else in Maryville's area. South had a great QB, but DB was playing teams often that did not give them the option to pull a starting QB in the first half. DB, is the only team in upper east TN that realizes what the rest of the state hold for us all, a butt whippin. Until South beats a team west of Morristown I don't care what round they make it to, DB plays major teams in the first round and the regular season. There is a major difference in teams at all levels west of morristown and no in 4A it ain't just Maryville like South likes to think. There are a dozen other teams waiting to take it to you. Basic football 101: Region 1 & 2 in 4A don't touch Knoxville. Region 1 5A is already there by goegraphy. Region 2 5A is even worse with Knoxville and Chattanooga, get it! DB must play a serious threat (even though they are the #3 or #4 seed in Region 2, they still would be NE TN killers to us all!) Point is, DB has beaten these teams around Knoxville and Chattanooga before, South beat Powell once like 15 years ago. Forget MAryville, heck South get past Greeneville a team DB has lost to once in 20 years? I count 11 losses to Greeneville by South not regular season in the same time span.
  11. Also, Fletcher is the real deal by the way. Seen it myself, doubters are haters. Boy can play. Goin well. Just ready for some Bball. Saw UT play MTSU tonight in a close one. Good game!
  12. QUOTE (DBTeepee @ Nov 22 2008 - 12:08 AM) McMinn Co. would have beaten any team in the MLC. Period. Their losses were to some of the best teams in the state, at any classification including Oltewah and twice to Farragut. Then why were you a 2 touchdown favorite against them? I mean if they were that good? REBEL NATION! Um..... South was also a 2 TD pick over Greeneville and lost by more then DB did. Anyway, Congrats to the devils. They pulled a shocker. Upset heard around the state, especially with Greeneville's QB out. Not many saw this one coming. Everyone keep your chin up, there is always next year and basketball is here. Good luck devils against Maryville, you have a large task at hand.
  13. Congrats to South. I take it Greeneville is next?
  14. Cletus, you are right. Trust me as a DB fan (and all DB fans agree that I know) we don't want that #1 target on our back. It also is usually way off anyway. I would put DB in the top 10 this year. Now in 98, 2000, or 2002 they were plays away from taking the big prize in the semis losing to natially ranked teams that won it all (state) and rankings may have been more reasonable then though I can't recall if we were ever #1 in those years but probably so as history goes. Maybe it is ignorance from the media, maybe a few have fun putting the target on DB's back. Regardless of a #1 ranking most local teams play DB like it is a super bowl. McMinn played their game as such. It ain't good for anyone. DB fans do not like it at all trust me. Whatever the problem is, I wish it would stop. Any team that wants to be ranked #1 in 5A can gladly take away this false burden that DB carries much too often and usually with no merit. I agree with this much. However, I do know for a fact that East TN media does participate more and this could be some of the problem. I am not in dispute about the merit of ranking, just trying to find answers to this common problem.
  15. Because from Knoxville on up, DB year in and out is the best 5A team. There are tons of smaller media outlets in those towns. In Nashville for instance the Tennesean does all of the smaller towns papers unlike in East TN where there are more individual voters and there are just many more voters in East TN that actually participate. DB is the only team that is year in and out a good team in upper east TN over a LONG period of time. All the tri cities, Elizabethton, etc will vote their way. For example it Oak Ridge and DB are both great, the Oak Ridge Paper and maybe the Knox Paper will put them at #1. DB on the other hand could have 8 or 9 voting DB's way because that is the only team they have seen or known in that area. South will proabably start drawing more votes over time if they keep it up, remember, they are still sort of new to their domination, it takes years. I have seen previous participation counts from all the voters, I am not just throwing out a theory.
  16. Leave it to a South fan to rub it in. Sorry DB is in a region that has really tough teams from Knoxville and must play really tough teams from Knox or Chatt in round 1, unlike South who plays cupcakes until the semis. South has beat 1 team west of morristown in the playoffs ever, it was powell like 15 years ago. DB has beaten teams west of morristown in the regular season all the time and the playoffs all the time. So south is lucky they avoid these teams until late rounds like the semis, DB has no choice but to play them early and gets toasted. At least DB can count more then 1 win against these teams. So South can win all the semis they like, but it will never add up when a KNox team or Chatt team knocks you off your block. Just be glad you can wait until round 4 instead of round 1 like DB.
  17. Again Congrats to McMinn. Both teams showed frustration more then once. It comes with the game. I promise you though that DB does not or would not on purpose try to do something cheap. Maybe that play came across that way, but it was legal. Ask other teams through the years, Oak Ridge, MBA, Maryville, Science Hill, etc; DB plays, wins and losses with class. They pride themselves on it. Trapback is right about region1 compared to region2, they are weaker, but it has not always been like that. And DB has not always been upset early like recently (actually, not really much of an upset, just the media, DB fans know region 2 is a beast) 98,2000, 2002 were prime years for DB, though a few years back; things will swing back. Sevier Co won state in 99. Science Hill is on the rise, South is rising, Jeff Co has talent and the largest student body along with their national rankings of past, region 1 and DB will rise again. Remember, it was not too long ago that only Oak Ridge in region 2 was a threat and Ooltewah, WB, McMinn, Farragut, etc were all in the same boat. Go to www.tssaa.org and see the history, of late region 2 has been great, but not always, and not so long ago they had only Oak Ridge. Back to DB, we have to open it up more. We beat teams in the past by 50 and made the semis every other year. DB plays conservative and almost like we know what is coming. I feel like DB never got the full use out of the passing game against McMinn or many other teams we played. Too much rode on Sensabaugh who is a stud, but we had so many weapons. Oh well, I still am a huge fan and I hope McMinn pulls the upset at Farragut. True fans that follow the game know that McMinn beating Farragut would be a bigger upset then McMinn beating DB. Thanks to the media for putting a target on a team I felt was talented, but not #1. Media gives all the opposing teams a reason to play DB like it is a super bowl. Please stop it. And as I have said before, it is not so much east tn media, the vote what they know, it is middle and west media that don't vote for their local teams that allow the eastern votes to fill in for their non votes that put DB #1. I am tired of it. It does nothing good for the state. Middle and west get off your lazy butts and vote for your local teams.
  18. I agree with all you sais, except about the part about from Jeff County to Memphis. Jeff County is in DB's conference and in fact DB has beaten them more time then one can count on 2 hands. However the problem is NOT upper East TN media, it is in fact that upper east TN media does their duty and votes. Many middle and west media outlets don't vote, and that means they don't vote for local teams. So, every year, due to participation in voting, the east votes DB high in the polls. Blame the middle and west media, tell them to vote! I am a DB Fan and I am tired of it. DB fans do not think that they are #1. DB is #1 east of morristown and that is usually it. Don't blame DB or east TN media, it is your middle and west that simply do not vote!
  19. what? DB or any other program around here did much uner AAA. If anything, DB has had 3 semis in 10 years in 5A and has been better. A few athletes from North means little. DB has just recently hit a student body surge. For a long time they had about 1500 and the big time schools like Riverdale, Farragut, Germantown had about 2500. Now DB is bigger but still there are much larger schools. Not the answer, it is the players.
  20. Um no. Because all the other area schools have the same problem when they hit the Knox or Chatt schools. They all lose. You would love to think your reasons are true but they are not. Heck, South has a higher income per family and the same happens to them. It is a combo of talent and football at a younger level. I think more so talent. Knox, Chatt, Nashville, Memphis always have more speed and more size on average. DB is actually know as one of the most physical teams in the area. No fight is wrong because they don't just give up and die, DB at least ALWAYS keeps it close, even in all their semi final losses. I do think that they get too tense and nervous, and maybe the coaches overthink things?
  21. Um no. I love how you say good things about DB to set yourself up to slam them and call them cheaters. Classless was after the game when your guy was cussing our coaches. Or your guy throwing two punches to the head of a DB player that was not called. DB lost, but they lost with class. Most McMinn players were friendly, some chose to act like they had never been there before. You just said yourself the play by DB was legal, so why call us classless? Just be happy with your win and quit attempting to make it in to something it is not.
  22. There are a few exceptions, but when the playoffs start teams East of Morristown are owend by teams West of Morristown. DB has had semi appearances in 98, 2000 and 2002 with mixed wins over Knox and Chatt Teams. Honestly, Nashville and the boro get even harder. Cloudland went far and got smacked by a nashville team. Morristown West got smacke by Hillsboro in the big game. South got smacked by Maryville last year after beating cup cakes until then. I don't think it is so much the coaching as it is the talent and maybe the programs offered at younger ages. Please no choking comments. It is a serious question and it is NOT just DB. Any school in that area gets beat in the PLAYOFFS by Knox or Chattanooga teams. It is unfortunate for DB that they must play these teams in the 1st round when other area schools get to put off tough teams until the quarters or semis, so it happens to us all. It happens to DB in the early rounds usually because our regions cover much more land.
