  1. Thanks for the radio info. I haven't talked too much about the game so far, so here it goes. The cold weather concerns me, mainly because the wind is usually blowing fairly hard, not because it is cold. How this will affect DCA's passing game is an unknown, but weather.com is forecasting winds of 4mph from the NE and a temperature of 32 degrees. DCA primarily runs the I formation. This is a good offense when you can pass. If you can't and the defense can put 8-9 men in the box, you are in for a long day. Ask Arkansas with a Darrell McFadden what happens? The Wing T is a better run offense and as long as you don't get behind and have to pass to catch up, it works fine. The other problem with the Wing T is that a lot of schools run it, their defense practices against it, so usually the more talented/experienced team wins. Since most teams run the Wing T or something similar, the teams that do pass are doing so out of desperation (whether being behind or long yardage situations), not because they do it well. But you do have the advantage of surprise when you do it in short yardage situations. But that advantage is somewhat negated when you do it against players that have practiced against it since the middle school. I have only seen 9 of the 12 games that DCA has played this year and I believe every team I saw ran some variation of the Wing T. I didn't see the CPA game that DCA lost 31-15, but CPA usually runs the I or out of a shotgun formation. DCA had an uncharacteristic 5 turnovers in that game and still was only trailing 17-15 after missing on a two-point conversion try with 6:24 remaining. Is DCA going to win? On paper, they probably should, but the game is played on the Dragon's field, and whoever executes the best and makes the fewest mistakes will win. I have no doubt that both teams will play hard and clean until the very end. See y'all tomorrow!
  2. From the Jamestown, TN Wiki I then read the page on Sgt. York here and it mentioned that York started the Institute as a private school I was wondering why the state took it over rather than the county. If you haven't read about Sgt. York recently, this link is a good place to start. [edit] As I research this further, I found link to the Medal of Honor site that has a better biography and an explanation of how YAI came into being. A good read about an incredible man and Tennessean. Do any of these stations carry the Dragon's games? Was wondering if I need to pack a radio along with my cold-weather gear. Go DCA, Go Blue!
  3. Just the answer I was looking for. I think my daughter and three of her friends are driving up separately and I knew that 127 was good road now, but wasn't sure about 62 as I haven't been on it in about 20 twenty years and wasn't sure if it had been "straightened" or not. Appreciate your help.
  4. As a city boy from Nashville, the plateau is "God's Country". Long ago, I went kayaking down the Clear Fork Creek/Big South Fork to Leatherwood Ford in the fall when the leaves were turning. To be down in the gorge at the Narrows surrounded by those big rounded boulders, the colorful leaves going up several hundred feet all around you, the cliffs, and the blue sky above you is a mystical (mythical?) experience. When I come up to the "mountain" on Friday afternoon, it will hard to leave without ever taking a hike through the many trails in the area. Man, I love the fall. As I was looking at the map to plan the trip up, I noticed that the three teams that DCA is playing in the playoffs are located in an almost a straight line north-south. A worthless tidbit, but it is interesting to play teams to the east of us, rather than the old format where we always went west. Much more fun to go to Jamestown that to Camden or Milan, what a boring drive going west. Thanks for the list of restaurants. Knowing what the choices are makes it easier to past by Cookeville and spend our dollars in Jamestown. Coming from Nashville, is it better to exit at Monterey and take HWY 62 over or go on down to Crossville and hit Hwy 127 there? QUOTE(moxen)I know York runs their wing t offense very well, doesn't Goodpasture run it also, and if so, would that favor DCA in their preparations? I didn't make all of the away games, but I think everybody DCA has played, except CPA, ran some kind of wing-t offense. The Dragons should have some early success running their wing-t because, as I understand it, they run a variation of it where the linemen are in tighter together on the line of scrimmage. If so, it might take awhile to figure out the blocking schemes. On the other hand, DCA runs out of the I-formation, running and passing equally well with a lot of big play capabilities.

  6. We're here! We don't know much about Tyner, so it is not wise to make any predictions . For the DCA fans, the new format is pretty interesting in that the team is getting to play teams from a different part of the state. Normally Region 5 gets matched up with Region 6 and if we survived that, play the winner of Region 7-8. Except for an occasional regular season games against Westmoreland and Friendship Christian, we only get to meet the east-state teams in the championship game. Because of this unfamiliarity, we really don't know what to expect. What we do know is that Tyner beat Boyd-Buchanan and that will definitely have the Wildcats attention. For those of you driving up from Chattanooga Friday via I-24, the junction of I-24 at I-40 can be a bottleneck after 3:30pm. This junction is similar to your I-24W and Hwy 27 junction. Taking either Hwy 155 (Briley Parkway) or Hwy 255 (Harding Place to Donelson Pike) might be a better alternative. Besides the concessions at the stadium, there is also going to be a spaghetti dinner in the school cafeteria starting at 5:30. This is a fund-raiser for this year's senior trip, so all are welcome. I believe the cost is $6 for adults and $4 for the kids. Hope everyone has a safe trip to and from Donelson, there aren't any injuries, that the officials call a good game, and that the best team on Friday night wins.

  9. Another great recap! The last two games that DCA has played have definitely been different. The first one was in stiffling heat and against a very fast team in Jackson Christian, and tonight's was cool and rainy against a very physical Berkeley Prep. Even though BP only brought about 26-28 players (no freshmen) up from Tampa, FL, they were very big for a small division school with a high school enrollment of 499. Watching the BP team during warmups, we somewhat expected the smaller and younger DCA line to get pushed around a lot and was thankful for the cooler and wetter conditions. But as the game went on, DCA gained more confidence and was dominating the LOS by the 4th quarter. Thinking back on the game, I really don't remember #77 (Barrie) being much of a factor on offense, but he sure got everybody's attention when he walked out for the coin toss, he is one large dude. And kudos to Josh Trammel for a very good game, except for the fumbles which were probably due to the wet conditions. On a night where passing yards were harder than usual to come by, he got several critical first downs on the ground to keep drives alive. Let's hope that the weather for the DCA-CPA next week is not a repeat of last years where the fog so bad.

    JCS vs DCA

It was hot tonight at the DCA campus and I will have to say that the team that cramped the least won. For the first game of the season, it was relatively penalty-free, except delay of games and stopages for player's cramping, and there was only one turnover, but it was a crucial one. I haven't figured oot yet how JCS only scored 27 points, because it seemed like they were constantly breaking loose for 50 yd TD runs or returning punts for 95 yds for a TD. JCS surprised me with their speed and tackle-breaking ability. DCA did most of their scoring through the air as Josh Trammel continues to shine passing the ball, with IIRC 3 TD throws. Ryan Fields made a probable game-saving intercaption on the DCA 20 yd line with 2 minutes to go in the game. This came after DCA had regained the lead 28-27 just minutes earlier. The Tennessean should have a recap with stats on their webpage later and I will post the link. edited : Great recap unbiased, do you take notes or what? Acker is a little banged up, but he is a load to bring down, especially late in a game. Considering the number of positions with new starters, DCA did a great job tonight. Don't know what to expect after the move up to 2A, but hopefully both of these teams will make the playoffs.
  12. Just called and they said there would be a $5 admission charge at the door just like any other TSSAA event.

Haven't seen anything posted about live radio broadcasts but two stations in Lebanon are supposely broadcasting the games according to this link at tssaa.org. I was able to pick them up in Nashville, so reception should be ok in the 'Boro. http://www.tssaa.org/2002Champions/StateFo...l/broadcast.htm

  20. Link to listen to the Comcast broadcast - no video, just audio. The URL to use if you have Winamp installed is radio.tgap.net. If you have XP and use Windows Media Player version 9 or 10, try the Radio WMP link. I am currently having a problem with my audio levels being too low, but you can set your audio player at 100% and turn up the volume on your speakers and it should be ok. This is limited to 5 connections and since I have never maxed out the connections, I am unsure what the error will be that is returned to you if the max is reached. 2nd half just started.

Thanks FBGIRL, we welcome your support. What can we do to get Divepix tp start posting again? (We need a Where are you Divepix thread) To rjduck50, if I could award a Post of the Day Award, this would get it for today. Well said about the trashtalking. Everybody should replace the USJ with their team's name and DCA with there opponent's and take it to heart. Thanks.

    DCA @ USJ

Untrue rumor since there is nobody enrolled at DCA with either of the two names mentioned. There should be quite a few DCA fans coming down Friday, so are there any problems with parking? Also any suggestions on what food is available at the concession stand or should we eat somewhere else before arriving at the stadium? Let's pray for a great game, good sportsmanship, and no injuries. Go Blue!!!
  23. Great recap Unbiased, and I really appreciate your posts about CPA, DCA, and others. Everybody thinks of Chris Wooden as being DCA's main offensive weapon, but Jim Fenwick throwing to Austin Garrett and Justin Hall has been DCA's bread-and-butter this year. Jim was injured most of last year and didn't return until the playoffs and has steadily improved as this year has gone on. It is hard to imagine him playing any better than tonight. The pass for the 99 yard TD was caught in stride at about Cascade's 45 yard line by a streaking Justin Hall. Since the line of scrimmage was DCA's 1, you can do the math. Tennessean boxscore ** edited to reflect that this reply was for Unbiased original post rather than the same old dribble about privates schools recruiting. Cascadefan, there is school in your neighborhood that plays some very good girls basketball - do they recruit or just attract players that want to play for a winner?
