  1. I find it quite interesting that all of a sudden Lausanne actually has a girl’s team that not only can actually dribble but also is good. The way I hear it is that a bunch a AAU players have magically shown up to a school where girl’s basketball had been one of the biggest jokes in the city. Actually that's not accurate; to be a big joke people had to actually know the school existed. And yes Lausanne is known as an EXCELLENT academic school but their sports program was widely unrecognized because of the lack of success. Don't start replying just yet about the boy’s basketball team, they've only been good in the last few years, which coincided with players like Gasol and West. Their "head coach" never gets off the bench and the assistant does all the coaching. Funny thing, he is in charge of "player development and college exposure" of Memphis lady elite AAU, http://www.memphisladyelite.org/contacts.html. If you check the Lausanne website. http://lausannesports.com/pages/coaches.htm#hunter, one will notice that the assistant coach who is in charge of player development and college exposure for Lady Elite has no college credentials posted. The TSSAA handbook states on page 9, in section 9 of the by-laws, http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/handbook.pdf, that head coaches must be retired educators or full time employees with teaching credentials. The Head coach does, but he does not do any of the coaching. The assistant coaches them. Lausanne's team is good, real good. I don't know just something to think about. Reply away.
  2. Not sure what happened in the JCS/FS game tonight, but don;t kid yourselves Fayette, St. Benedict is really really not good.
  3. Did Benedict look good or is Middleton that bad, my guess it was middleton bad. Any ifo would be great.
  4. The Bridges Classic is not about black and white schools, its about public vs. private. Besides Bolton and Whitestation can hardly be categorized as "white" schools. It is also goes beyon just the game. The kids from both teams spend time together for a breakfast, speeches and discussions.
  5. Has anyone heard who will replace Coach Freeze at Briarcrest. I have heard it is going to be either his assistant, Orr or the girls coach at Harding. Either would be good, but I think the Harding coach does a great job. What have you all heard?
  6. Congrats Byrne! Your coach may be a quitter but at least he schedules some teams that will prepare his team for the playoffs. TRA has a good program to bad their OLD coach had such a bad schedule. I'm sure this new guy, who has done a great job, schdules some better games next year. The record won't ba as good, but they will be better prepared.
  7. Urbankit, you have got to relax, man. Neither tssaa or coacht lists "jamboree" results because jamboree scores don't count. I know some teams who don't even play their starters in jamboree games. And yes, I believe Benedict did play their starters in the jamboree. Sorry about confusing who posts for FACS and Rosemark. I guess I should apologize because I do not know where every single poster on this sites plays. By the way, I think with the way that the FACS school and football programs are growing "neighborhhod" games against Benedict and ECS would be fun and draw great gates. Wether FACS wins or loses, I think FACS would start getting a lot more respect from the bigger schools around the city. The new schedules for the next two years should be made this winter.
  8. I check Benedict's regular season schedules from the past three years, when have you ever played Benedict?
  9. You prove buschman's point. St. Benedict is the worst team in DIV II-AA. This was the first year ever in DIV II-AA that they didn't lose by more 30 points to Harding, who genrally loses to ECS and Briarcrest. To say that you tied Benedict in scrimmage shows the relative low level of the TRA or FACS. Benedict has not won a region game EVER since the Div II Div I split, that's six or seven years. Yes Benedict is 4 and 1 now, but their wins are against Div II-A and Div I-A teams and their loss is a region loss to Harding. In the next few weeks look at the scores of the Benedict vs. ECS and Briarcrest. It won't be pretty. If you are trying to argue that DIV II-A can compete at the higher level because you can hang with, but not beat Benedict, is like a college team saying they can compete with UT or Georgia because it only lost or tied Vanderbilt. Vandy is an SEC team but get real. Your arguement does not hold. I respect DIV II-A commitment to football and their schools. Kids play both ways. The coaches are dedicated and hardworking. In my mind the coaches in DivII-A do a better job than their counterparts who have 200 to 800 boys in their schools. Your fans are great. There are great rivalries. The games have a wondeful atomosphere. If you win state, enjoy it, you deserve to. My ONLY problem is when the TRA or FACS fans start to talk about beating other teams much better than them. It is much like if Rhodes College's football team challenging UT because Rhodes was 3 and 0, beating Sewannee, Millsaps, Depauw, etc. Who are these colleges you ask? You have just proved my point.
  10. Zion Academy, 2 and 3. Trinity Christian, 2 and 3. Ellsiton, who went 1 and 22 since 1999. POWERHOUSES!!! If you all want respect play someone else OUTSIDE of DII-A and the doormats of DI-A. There are some fantastic DI-A programs right around West TN. Suggestions, USJ awesome program, JAckson Christian, West Carroll, South Fulton, just to name a few. Remeber you asked....
  11. rebel qb, I think you missed my point. I already said If the Div II-A football teams want to get any respect from outside their conference they have to play tough teams and beat them. The only reason I brought up Benedict is that although they are better this year they still will not win a region game, for the 7th year in a row, since the beginning of the DI and DII split. Name a recognized good team form out of DII-A that a team has beat. A few years ago when Bynre was LOADED with talent, ie Charles Hampton they still lost to an ECS team that was down. You all want respect play and beat somone outside your region. The ONLY team that even schedules outside of DI -A and DII - A is Byrne. Yes I know your enrollments are small, but if you want respect get out of your backyards and play some big boys. Until then DII-A will not get the respect it may deserve.
  12. Here is where I stand on Div II-A. And this is just my opinion. The players and coaches all work very hard. Nothing should be taken away from any success a Div II-A team has. That being said the two best teams in Div II-A, TRA and FACS have a combined record of 10 and 0. The records of the teams these two have played are 5 wins and 49 losses. Every year there are a couple of teams that could compete, not thrive, outside of Div II-A. The rest of the teams can barely field a team. Catholic, Lighthouse, Elliston, St. Andrews, King's Academy don't have the enrollments to compete with anyone inside yet alone outside Div II-A. Sure for a couple years Byrne or SBEC is tough. These two teams have lost almost all of their talent. My proof? Byrne and SBEC have been whipped by St. Benedict this year. St. Benedict although improved from year's past is the doormat of Div II-AA. Benedict has not won a Div II-AA game in at least 6 years. And yes, TRA and FACS are very tough this year, very tough inside Div II-A against opponents with a record of 5 and 49. Their schedule outside of Div II-A is bad MPSA schools and Byhalia, a two year old program that is the homecoming for every bad football team in TN. I honestly believe that the TRA v FACS game will a battle and a great game. They will turn around in a few weeks and play each other again for the Div II-A "state" (conference) championship. It will a great game, rings will be handed out, and memories cherished but in the end the "state' champion will have beaten the only other half way decent team in its own division. For TRA, FACS, Bishop Byrne, or SBEC to be taken seriously by anyone outside of Div II-A they will have to schedule and play someone outside Div II-A and Div I-A besides St. Benedict. So far to my knowledge only Byrne has done that. You asked so I've given my opinion.
  13. Muffin man, I don't want to sound like a jerk but SBEC and Bryne a re Div II-A teams, and bad Div II-A teams at that. The only legitamate team Benedict has played is Harding. Benedict is much improved but any schedule with 3 Div II-A schools is a joke. Bryne and SBEC lost much of their talent to graduation. I'm also of the opinion that the "State" championship for Div II-A is about great kids who work hard, with great fans who a passioned, and really really bad football.
  14. The gobson benedict score is worng. I also saw in the commercial appeal that Gibson lost to St. Benedict. WOW! St. Benedict although being 4 and 1, is the worst 4 and 1 team I have ever seen. They have played NO ONE. Gibson must be terrible.
