I don’t know what they were doing on defense the last 2 drives. I get it you don’t want to give up the big play but they just going to go underneath and chip away when you played that soft of a zone.

I think this will be a tight football game. We both beat each of the common opponents by similar scores. One thing is for sure after watching some film Marcus Goree Jr is a big time talent. We should not kick it to him, several times he was one tackle away from going to the house. Also talked to LA’s family today. He has to have surgery and is done for the year. Should be good to go for next year and beyond.

WV is one of those teams that has left me scratching my head over. I know they lost some big time contributors off of last years team and this year’s team has been pretty banged up since week 4 or 5. However, they have a good bit of talent and one of the best up and coming coaches in the Chattanooga area. If they were healthy this would be a good game but they way they are right now Upperman should win this one by 2 scores

David Crockett and Daniel Boone in the Musket Bowl/Region 1 championship game. Crockett is coming off their bye week to face rival Daniel Boone. With a Crockett win the are region champ and then their is 3 teams tied for 2nd at 2-2 in the region if TN High beats Cherokee in week 11. If Boone wins then Boone is the champ and Crockett has a home game. Mo West wrapped up region play with a solid win over Cherokee. Mo West has rival Jeff Co this week to finish the regular season. TN High gets West Ridge this week in a non region game Region 2 Knox West had no trouble with Cocke Co but now have two big games coming up. This week they get Maryville before meeting Knox Central the region championship. Knox Central is coming off a bye week but have two big time showdowns in their next two games. This week is Knox Halls then Knox Central the following. For Halls they need to win to keep their home playoff hopes alive. Sevier Co has an interesting matchup out of region with Campbell Co. Campbell Co goes out of region to take on Sevier Co before facing off with Oak Ridge for 3rd place in the region. Region 4 Rhea finished region play undefeated with a beating of outmanned Howard team. However, Rhea has big time out of region game against the undefeated Bradley Central Bears. McMinn sealed up the 2nd spot with a solid win over Walker Valley. McMinn still has a matchup with Ooltewah left but they should win that one. Walker Valley has an out of region match up with Upperman before playing Howard to finish the year. Mt Juliet is sitting in third and has match up with Hillsboro which could decide which team makes the playoffs. Wilson Central goes out of region to take on Stewarts Creek. Region 6 Page heads out of region to take on Indy. Columbia has all but sealed up a home playoff game with a solid win over Lincoln Co. Nolensville is coming off of a bye week goes out of region with a match up with Franklin. Nolensville and Franklin Co will face off for 3rd place in week 11. Springfield if they win this week will pretty much seal the championship. Portland has built up some momentum with a big win over Station Camp and now control their own destiny for a region title. Region 8 Memphis Central took care of business out of region last week and have a non region game with Christian Brothers. The showdown looms with Mumford for the Region title. Bradley survived Farragut to stay undefeated. They have their showdown with Maryville in 2 weeks but first Rhea Co comes to Bradley for a match-up of two the top teams in the Chattanooga area. Is this the year Rhea Co finally gets a win against the bears?

Mo West lost a good ball game to Knox Carter, but now face Cherokee in their region finale. TN High and Boone square off in a pivotal region game. A win for TN high sets them up for a potential shot at a home game and a win for Boone will set up a winner take all game with Crockett. Region 2 Region leader Knox West had their off week to get ready for Cocke Co. Knox Central picked up a nice win against a good South Doyle team. Now central has to go to Knox Halls in what will a big game for both and really will either really help clear up the playoff picture or really muddy it up. Sevier Co has an off week before a region game against Heritage. They welcome Howard to Eagle Stadium Friday night. This week will decide who is 2nd in the region with the showdown between Walker Valley and McMinn. WV is coming off a bye week and is looking to seal a 2nd straight 1st round home playoff game. McMinn on the other hand comes in red hot winning their last 3. If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings) Powell vs Ooltewah McMinn Co vs Karns Campbell Co vs Walker Valley Rhea Co vs Oak Ridge Region 5 vs 6 Region 5 Station Camp and Green Hill sit a top the region standings and will meet up Oct 22 to decide the region. Station Camp goes out of region this Friday with Portland. Mt Juliet is coming off a to rival to Lebanon, and now have the week off to get ready for Hillsboro. Wilson Central sits 4th in the standings with a bye week this week and a non region game Stewarts Creek and then Hillsboro the final week. Hillsboro has a bye this week also but has a chance to make the playoffs with games against Mt Juliet and Wilson Central wait. Hillsboro could lose to Mt Juliet and still have a showdown with Wilson Central for the final playoff spot for Region 5. Columbia has a pretty solid grip on 2nd with games against the bottom 2 teams in region 6 left in Lincoln Co and rival Spring Hill. The Portland game will probably decide which team gets a home game and who goes on the road in the first round. Kenwood is in a good position to make the playoffs. They have a bye week this week but finish the year with Northwest and Northeast. Northeast still has a chance but will need some help. Region 8 Memphis Central and Munford both continue to take care of business. The championship will be decided in week 11 if both teams take care of business. Dyer County controls their own destiny for 3rd but head out of region with a game against Covington. The match up with Brighton in two weeks will determine who finishes 3rd and 4th. However, Southwind is not out of the Playoffs heading in to their bye week. They have to win out to make the playoffs. Having seen both teams. If WV is still missing all those guys to injury then. I think McMinn takes this one by 2 TDs. If Walker Valley has even some of those guys back. This will be a tight football game. Should be a fun one to watch.

Looking forward to coming to Elizabethton. I’ve been by that stadium so many times but I have never seen a game there. I expect a great game from both teams. Two really good QB going at it Friday. I think that is pretty accurate. I just don’t see any team from Region 1 making it past round 2 and the only one making it out of round 1 is David Crockett and that is not given. At this point I can see a split in region 3 & 4. Particularly is Walker Valley can get healthy by the playoffs. I see Rhea and Powell meeting in the quarterfinals and West and Central in the other. Out west that is whole other story. It’s going to be a shootout every round in the west half of the bracket.

Good breakdown! It’s definitely a tough road. Pretty much any team Karns and Bishop sees the rest of the season and playoffs should be able to hold him below his season avg. Playoff wise for example if Karns end up 4th and goes to Rhea Co. Rhea plays ball control and will try to limit the amount of possessions Karns get in the game making very tough to get the same production Bishop would have against other teams. McMinn has a decent defense and if healthy Walker Valley has a very good defense

I think the last team that went 5-5 in the regular season and win a state title was Livingston Academy in 2005. That’s the only team that I can think of the had more than 4 losses to make the championship

As of this week Oak Ridge Karns and Campbell are all tied for 2nd and the way the tiebreakers fall Oak Ridge sits 4th. Now I think OR finishing 2nd once it’s all said and done. Luckily OR have to play the two teams they are tied with so they can control where they finish. They have two weeks to get ready for the Thursday showdown with Karns. If they win that one I think they beat Campbell too. I think if OR can get their offense to click, and with as good as OR defense is, they will finish 2nd.

Week 8 It’s that time of year again to look at the 5A playoff races and see what match-ups could be coming together. Week 7 really made a lot of region races come better into focus, but there are still plenty of regions far from being decided. This week there is not a lot of big region games but there are a lot of quality games this week. Region 4 Rhea County came away with a solid win at Walker Valley and pretty much locking up the region championship and the 1 seed. Now it comes down in two weeks with McMinn and Walker Valley playing for 2nd and a home playoff game. Ooltewah got the first win last night and punched their ticket to the playoffs. Wilson Central currently holds 4th in the region and if the cards fall right Hillsboro and WC will play for the final playoff sport in week 11. Region 6 Page got a key win last night with Columbia and setting up a big showdown with Nolensville next Friday for what could be the Region Championship. Columbia sits 2nd and has two very winnable games remaining in region play. That would be something if Nolensville beats Page next week and Page, Columbia, and Nolensville all finished with one lose in region play. However if Page wins then the region will pretty much be determined. Franklin Co controls its own destiny and win vs Spring Hill would put them in the playoffs. The game between Kenwood and Northeast in week 11 could decide the final playoff spot in Region 7 Region 8 Memphis Central and Munford have separated themselves from the rest of the region and as long as both teams take care of business.
