Well put Grad. I know both gentlemen and they are just that, gentlemen. They share a friendship on and off the field that will continue no matter the outcome of the game. Although I hope Soddy and Weathers get the win, I wish Gatewood and his team the best of luck. People do need to quit hiding behind names and act with manners and maturity.

Jeff is a strength and conditioning coach for UT right now. His career was ended with a knee injury that the Titans didn't want to deal with.

I was at that game...and I'm still waiting to see McMinn play some football.

I really don't want this to seem or be confrontational, but I don't understand why you would say that no one on the Soddy team has inspired them to play well every game. Yes, SD has has their sloppy moments, as every team has had. I've been to pretty much every game and I've seen the inspiration and motivation that you are doubting. Look at their record, obviously someone is inspired in Soddy-Daisy.

I saw that game on Friday and I was really surprised by the fact that Heritage hasn't won a game yet. They played very well against a sloppy Soddy team. They definitely deserve more respect than they've received so far this season. It was a hard fought victory for SD, but Heritage had no reason to hang their heads on the ride back to Maryville.

Amen to that! I think that was the problem at last week's game against Hixson. They let their wins go to their heads when they should've concentrated on the matter at hand. We all know this happens to all football players, no matter their level....Look at my beloved Vols for instance. But I really do think that Weathers and his awesome assistants have a good thing going up there in Soddy. They just need to keep their eyes on the prize.

Yeah, Doodle Bivens is a HOSS! I've seen him play a couple times this season and he really is a machine. I hear he's interested in playing for the Air Force...which would be a good match for a guy of his size. Best of luck to him!

You're right! My days are all backwards, they are playing Heritaga at home (SD) on Friday. Sorry about that!

I really hope that SD goes undefeated this year, but like many of you have said, they must beat Ooletewah and Oak Ridge first. OHS is very fast and has much talent in Caldwell, and everyone knows that playing ORHS at home is very tough. I think they have a better chance of beating OHS than they do ORHS. Good luck to them all, this region has something to be very proud of!

I agree! I thought it would be a run away for Soddy, just like Bradley was. I do think Hixson has some really fast guys (that #2 was really good), but the reason that the score wasn't as high is that SD got sloppy in the second half, plain and simple. The line did a good job stopping their fast RBs too. This was a good lesson to SD as what to do under pressure. GO SODDY!!!!!

StayNSKool you made some very good points, but your idea about how to sell a newspaper is very skewed. Obviously, newspapers must cater to their clients to sell subscriptions, which means covering the news they want to see. However, when did athletes from smaller schools in the surrounding counties not deserve their names in the paper? Did they not practice as hard as boys from McCallie and Red Bank? Did they not put in their hearts into the game as much as Soddy Daisy or Cleveland? As a journalist for almost a decade now, I've learned that these counties and small schools that "don't count" actually do, in a big way. Not only do people their subscribe to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, but they also will go out and buy a dozen papers if there is a tid-bit about their school/child/etc. in an issue. Good newspapers try to do the "right thing" and cover news that all their clients, no matter their address, like to read....not just the ones that have the "affluent" zip code.

Casey Clausen was the worst and best quarterback that we could had at the time. By that, I mean that he could throw the ball and come up with big plays, but at the same time, he couldn't run or take a hit to save his life...and he couldn't hold on to the ball very well either. I'm saying this from a UT student's point of view. No one UT football player was more hated on campus (by his peers) than Casey Clausen...............well, Kelly Washington comes in for a tie on that.

Amen to that! It seems like people who say negative things about the Vols are those that probably weren't good enough to attend the school in the first place. They just don't know how GREAT IT IS TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL!

I used to, but not anymore. I just am a big fan of Coach Weathers from years ago and wish him the best at Soddy.

I agree with ya blueblurr! People don't think Soddy will make it to the playoffs, let alone the semi's just 'cause they haven't in the past. I say you gotta start somewhere and it seems to me that they can only get better from here! GO SODDY!

I disagree with your statement. As a current UT student and member of the VASF, I know that the scouts have made some mistakes in not taking Tenn. players right off the bat. However, some boys from Tenn. would rather go to out of state schools such as UGA, Bama, LSU, etc. because they don't like Tenn. Just look at Victor Ellis. He wasn't heavily recruited by the Vols, and went on to have a successful career at Bama. I don't like the Clausen brothers either, but Casey was the best we could get at the time.
