  1. Not disputing the hard work by any coaches Smash. Ours at CG work themselves to death too. I was just sayin that who cares if they are 15 or 12 in the 8th grade or 19 or 15 when they graduate high school. It's legal. It's smart. And it helps the boys out. I'm agreeing with you 100%, especially on the maturity thing. It makes a huge difference.
  2. I'm with you on that one Bud. However, I know that our guys can't be overlooking anybody, ever, especially this week with Oneida coming to town. But as a fan, I too am looking forward to next week! Love the conference games.
  3. I dont have a dog in this fight, but, according to the TSSAA rules, as long as you dont turn 15 on or before august 1st, you are eligible in middle school ball. In high school, its as long as you dont turn 19 on or before august 1st. If the parents want to do it then hey I'm all for it. I wish more parents would do it up here in Cumberland Gap. It makes a difference...a big difference.
  4. Best of luck to the Rebs from your BRAC pals in Cumberland Gap!
  5. Best of luck to the Buffs this week from your BRAC compadres in Cumberland Gap land! See you all next week!!!
  6. Best of luck to the Devils from your BRAC friends at Cumberland Gap!
  7. Well Smash I hope that they stay in that hole for at least one more week!! CG, like Oneida, has a lot of young kids playing. They have a bunch of sophs and jrs out there. And with only 5 Seniors on the team, leadership on the field sometimes is the question. If you dont get the leadership you need from the very few upperclassmen that you have, then things can unravel in a hurry. Luckily for CG, it seems like some of the younger ones are stepping up to the plate in the leadership department. On another note, I hope this game doesnt turn into the fog bowl again like it was the last time Oneida came to town! I could barely see the kids out there from the stands!
  8. Didn't mean to stir up a war guys! It was just my opinion. Now I know that spradlin is the real deal and that greeneville is the real deal as well. I'm just sayin that shuffler is amazing. The things that kid can do with the football in his hands is scary. Quick as a cat and makes great decisions. Didn't mean to start a city/county war in greene county! Sorry guys.
  9. This is one of my favorite games of the year. Even though it's a non-district contest, both of these teams usually go after each other pretty good. I know last years game was a blow out, but that was last year. CG is coming off a tough loss to a pretty good South greene team. How they react to that will be a big factor into whether or not they can keep it close. They had a ton of missed opportunities on friday. Hopefully this week they can convert those. Oneida is always known for their toughness and their physicality. CG will really have to step up to the plate if they plan on winning this game. Oneida always plays great defense and they always have a sound running game. Sounds to me, from hearing the rest of you all talk, that turnovers have been killing them this year. I'm looking for a great game. Both teams need a win in the worst way. CG is at home and that will help them. Oneida is a class act and they always have been. Thats one reason i love this game on CG's schedule. Oneida fans know their football and you can have logical discussions about the game itself and not a bunch of "toothless" garbage and smack talk. I expect a good game and a hard fought game that could come down to the wire. Best of luck to both teams and i hope that its a clean hard hitting ballgame with no injuries to either side. CG - 20 Oneida - 17 Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Well it was a good game. South Greene had more bullets in the gun than CG did. Big plays were the name of the game. Im proud of the panthers though. They put up a good fight and didnt give in. I think that they gave SG more of a game than they were expecting. If CG can keep getting better then people will be talking about them at the end of the season. Hats off to SG...Shuffler is amazing. Best player in the conference imo. And that includes the Greeneville guys. If i were voting for an mvp in this conference, i know exactly where it would go. #11 didnt impress me much. #2 was th real deal too and #5 made some big plays as well. CG didnt make plays when they needed to and SG did. And thats how it usually goes for the winner of this game. The winner makes the plays and the loser doesnt. Best of luck to SG the rest of the year and for CG...let it go and get ready for oneida next week. Go Panthers!!!!!
  11. Thanks Bud for all your info. It should be a good one tonight. There is a slight chance of rain and if that happens then i think the advantage goes to CG because it should slow down SG's athletes. Im hoping anyway!! haha It should be a good game though regardless. Best of luck to both teams tonight and I hope they both put on a good show for us all an both teams come out injury free. CG - 24 SG - 21 Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Could not agree with you more Bud. Those two are the catalysts for that team. Yo also got to throw in that good receiver that SG has too. Sorry, don't know his name, but he caught some balls against CG at the jamboree and looked like a pretty good athlete. #2 i think is his #. Shipley was a great player, no doubt. I feel like the qb we have now, who is only a soph, has the potential to be as good. He doesnt have the bulk, but he is a very good runner and good passer too. He just needs to mature in my opinion. SG didn't appear to be very deep in the jamboree. Can any of you Greene Countians shed some light on that? Also, i will stay with my prediction... CG - 24 SG - 21 In a close one.
  13. First district contest of the year for both teams. This is when football, in my opinion, gets really fun. South Greene is 2-0 and CG is 1-0. Last year was the first time that either team had won on the other's home field. Granted, CG has only been a school since 2003. That trend was broken last year in an absolute thriller. One of the best games I personally have ever witnessed. I know that many of you are basing the outcome of this one on the jamboree, a glorified scrimmage. But the last time i checked, a football game consists of 4 qtrs, not just one. And, there won't be any mass substitutions in the game either. Did CG look terrible, even their first team, against SG then....absolutely. But that is also without a week of preparation for their opponent. In my opinion, this game will be decided like it was last year, in the trenches. Another huge factor will be if CG can get their paws on the elusive Shuffler. That kid can flat out play. I feel that if CG can limit the big plays of SG and make a few of their own, then they can win this one. If they don't, then it could be a long night for the Panthers. CG has a couple things in their favor, their youth has a game under their belts, and it wasnt an easy one, and they are playing their home opener. Only time will tell, but I think that the Panthers have a good shot in this one. I agree with all posts so far, no doubt, these two teams always put on a good show for the fans. It is a good, competitive rivalry for the BRAC. I hope to see a good classy ball game with no injuries. CG - 24 SG - 21 In a nailbiter!!! Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Hard fought win for CG who pulled it out 21-16. Union Co. is much improved from last year. CG came out of the gates roaring but seemed to be very inconsistent on offense. They had a bunch of yards but not enough points on the scoreboard. Definitely the youth playing a factor in all this. The defense had a pretty good game. They look like theyve really worked hard to fix a lot of their weaknesses. Congrats to the Panthers on a hard fought win. Next up...South Greene!!!!
  15. Yes, Ryan went on to play at Union College, i think as a linebacker. It was pretty fun watching him the past couple of years. CG has a new qb now that took over after Shipley's leg got broken last season. Blake Franklin. He is a sophomore this year that has many of the same tools as Ryan had, just nowhere near as big!!! From what i've seen of him (through middle school and last year) he is a good runner and passer that has a chance to be pretty good i hope! Blake has some big shoes to fill that's for sure. Thanks for the good wishes and I'm hopin to see CG at 1-0 when South Greene comes a callin' next week!!
  16. Not sure of the name, but i think he was on last years staff. They had one guy that was there for about a week or two then left. Not sure what that was about.
  17. Thanks Bud, we like watchin em up here as well. It just seems like they have just enough youth and inexperience to make them be up and down. I do know they only have like 5-6 seniors, but their junior and sophomore classes are big and a lot of those kids got to play last year. So if nothing else they are gaining experience.
  18. Finally. I have been waiting on this for a long time!! It's finally football time again. CG has looked up and down all pre-season. That performance at the Conference jamboree was abysmal. They played the night before for about 2 hrs at a jamboree in Middlesboro Ky against Harlan and looked much better. But the pre-season is over. It's game time. Thank goodness. The Panthers are still relatively young in many key positions. Last time i checked I think they are starting around 4-5 sophs on offense and only 3 srs and the rest are jrs. On defense they are starting 1 freshman, 4 sophs i think and only 1 or 2 srs. So they are still a bit young. But hopefully that will help them out in the long run. As for Union Co., I know nothing about them except that they have a new coach and a few pretty good players returning from last year. It's kinda tough to gauge CG so far because they have been very inconsistent and with this one being on the road i'm a little concerned. But i think that in the end, CG will play hard and hopefully leave maynardville with a big W and get the season off to a good start! Good luck this week guys, I hope you put it to em. CG - 28 Union Co. - 12 Go Panthers!!!!
  19. Congrats to Betsy from Cumberland Gap. Best of luck to you guys next week against the f5. It will be a heckuva game. I hope you guys win cuz at least we can say we got beat by the best! lol Give em heck guys!
  20. Congrats to our friends and district foes g'ville tonight from Cumberland Gap. I hope you guys get to C'ville in a couple of weeks. Go get em next week and represent the blue ridge!
  21. God Bless America!!!! May the love of God be with all those who have fought and died in the armed forces to defend the rights we have. And may God be with those that are currently in the armed forces defending this great country of ours. We have the rights to get on here and speak our opinions because of these brave men and women. Great job APB...way to start a thread like this!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Best of luck to G'ville from your friends and conference foes at Cumberland Gap!
  23. That about sums it up. Thanks for recognizing Elizabethton is a good team. I also like the forget about that one and move onward and upward for next season. Good luck in your quest to catch up with Greeneville! Not sure if the catching up with Greeneville thing is a quip or if it's sincere! lol But anyway, yeah Elizabethton is a good team and will be successful in the playoffs. Best of luck to you guys the rest of the way. CG, you guys did your best, but sometimes that's just not enough. Better days are coming for you. Work hard in the offseason and get in the weightroom!!! You guys gotta get bigger faster and stronger. One day you will be able to compete with the Elizabethtons and eventually the Greeneville's of the world. Just hang in there and keep on working. I've enjoyed watching you guys this year through all the ups and downs. It's been interesting to say the least! I'm looking forward to next season already!! So many young players with a lot of potential. Keep on working and believing guys. Better days are ahead.
  24. Well that sounds awesome. I love Chick-fil-a!!!! I'm hoping for a good game with no injuries as well. It would probably be the first time all year that we end a game without someone hurt...and that's no joke!! If CG can keep it relatively close then i'll be happy. It's been a long tough season for the panthers but they've hung in there and never cease to amaze me with the heart they show. But in the end, Betsy will have too much depth and strength this time around. But as a fan...you never say never!!! CG - 20 Betsy - 42 But hoping for the upset!!! GO PANTHERS!!!!!!
