  1. I don't want to take anything away from AC, but I believe the team that makes the fewest mistakes will be the team that comes out on top. Special teams will probably play a big part, as in all early season games.
  2. The ole Mav faithful sure are expecting alot out of their new sophomore quarterback. Do you really expect him to hang 35 on a Greenville team that has to be ticked off coming into this game. The past 3 years Anderson County has torched them pretty good. You know they are going to have their ears pinned back coming after him. I sure hope that the boys from AC are not overlooking Greenville. If they do, look for an upset week one. For Anderson County to put up 35 week one, I just don't know about that.
  3. Has anyone heard anything about Greenville's QB. I had heard that he wasn't going to be able to play this year. I have no idea what for, just heard that the other day. He's a good little athlete.
  4. Any word on that Greenville and Clinton scrimmage?
  5. Surely you are not refering to the same OUTSTANDING defense that gave up 9 touchdowns to Catholic (6 to one back) and the MUCH BETTER OFFENSE that couldn't smell the end zone.
  6. This is coming from a guy who thinks Clinton will make the playoffs this year.
  7. Which good players from Clinton have transfered to Anderson County since 98 to play football. You have then scoring more points against Oak Ridge and AC than they have the past 2 seasons.
  8. Letting everyone know about the jamboree on Friday. At the varsity level, Oak Ridge vs. Anderson County and Clinton vs. Union County. Anyone heard much about these teams adn how they will fair this season?
  9. I believe that Anderson County had a scrimmage with 5A Karns on Tuesday. Plus they started school on Tuesday. Probably didn't want the long drive back on a school night.
  10. who turned down the powell job?????
  11. checkmate. Maybe because he feels that he is above a DI-AA program, and dad had some pull to get him at UT as an invited walk-on
  12. Sounds like if you were a player of if you still are you probably spend a lot of time on the sidelines and are probably really lazy and love the idea on not having to come and work-out in the summer.
  13. Great post there kcscoop. I agree completely. Tony deserves a shot at this job. The community would love him and the players would respond to him. Tony is the guy that could get those huge wins against Central and Maryville. I hope that the administration gives him a chance. He would not disappoint them. Who knows though, maybe Powell wants a transition guy so that that in 2 or 3 years they can give the job to Lowe, hoping that he will be ready then.
  14. Do NAIA schools even give scholarships, or do they just give a financial aid package.
  15. I hope this whole hiring process hasn't been just a formality. If Powell has planned all along to give the job to Lowe then they are doing their kids, program, and community a great injustice. I know that teaching positions are an issue, but is the Powell administration and community going to settle for mediocracy. I hope that the administration and athletic dept. really consider what they are doing before they make a hire.
  16. How does everyone think this region will shake out this season.
  17. Playing against Lowe I know that he is a tremendous competitor. No doubt he knows the game. The hard part of being a head coach is not on the field. It is when you step off the field and into the office. Dealing with unruly parents, budgets, handling players that may be mentally disturbed, those are the tough problems that face a head coach. Everything falls on you as a head coach. You can't push it off on anyone. You are the BMOC and have to deal with every little and big problem. It takes a whole lot of patience from what I have heard. Can Lowe handle all of that? I don't know.
  18. Any word on who all applied. Also, when will they inform those who are getting an interview.
  19. If Powell is not careful, they are going to get caught up in this and overlook the best man for the job. Tony Lambert may have not had the title of Head Coach by his name, but he has handled just about all of those duties as an assistant. I hope that Powell takes a look at him. I believe they would be very pleased.
  20. Sometimes it's grades, sometimes it's test scores, you said it.
  21. I think he would be a great fit for the community and players. If his style didn't fit Lowe's then Lowe could adapt to Tony's or he could hit the road. That brings up another point. Will the head coach that is chosen be able to bring anyone with him or will he have the same staff that is there right now. That makes a big difference. With that being said I know that some applicants would be turned off by an administration and program that made the new HC use an "old" staff. It will all come down to whether or not Powell wants to do things right or do what everyone expects them to do. Hopefully the administration will shock everyone and really search for the right man for the job. It is Matt Lowe, then great. But, it may not be. Head coaching is more than x's and o's and the kids. There is a lot that is involved. That's why Tony would be the man for the job.
  22. I agree with olhickory, kcscoop, and oskie that Tony Lambert would be a great fit for the panthers. Not only would Tony be a great coach that the kids would respond to, the faculty and community would love him. I hope that the administration at Powell will take a hard look at Tony. At the very least he should get and interview. Tony Lambert could be the person that puts Powell back at the top of 4-A football.
  23. You are pretty good Leonardlosers. That was Chadwell at AC. He is now coaching at Charleston Southern. Only decent size school to give him a look was memphis I believe, on a visit but that was it.
  24. I hope he does go to a D-1 school. That would be great. And he would probably have some success. Not as much as if he went to a D-1AA. Listen, you are takin my post wrong. I think he is a great player. There are kids that are under 6'0 in D-1 but look at there speed. Cates is pretty quick, but not 4.3 or 4.4 I don't think. He would have a chance to be a great player at the 1-AA level. I wish the the best in whatever he does. Glad to here that he gives God crdeit for his ability. Sounds like he is a winner in all aspects of his life. And yes I've seen him play several times.
