  1. Can someone email me the contact for this tournament please?
  2. It's not that Harpeth is "meshing" as a team... They are a young team that is starting to figure things out. When you have three to four Sophomores on the court at the same time and they complete against five upperclassmen and hold their own you have talent. The boys are learning that they do have the talent to complete, no matter how young the team is this year. They are learning the system and how it works. Crowe and Dansby are stepping up and taking on a leadership role, something that is needed for them to succeed. I wouldn't call it meshing, I would call it learning and maturing. Not that I except Harpeth to pull off some miracle here at the end of the season, but it would not surprise me if they upset some folks down the stretch. In regards to the Creek Wood fella running off at the mouth. Be careful what you spout off... it has a way of coming back and taking a big ole' bite out of your butt! There are bigger fish that you'll have to get past in the Region. I wouldn't start clearing off the trophy case just yet!
  3. I talked to Matt earlier today. The tournament has been cancelled.
  4. I'd love to comment on Rossview's wrestlers, but since they never rescheduled the match they cancelled with us I can't. I think there are going to be a few surprises at the Regions this year.
  5. I'm not sure what can be done, but something has to happen.
  6. Amen... I understand that things happen. But there are teams in this Region who make it a common practice to cancel matches that are already on the books. I won't mention any names, you know who you are, but it's frustrating when you're a smaller school and don't have the resources to just pick up and take on an additional tournament. This will short my kid four matches this week, two of which were favorites to make a run at the state. It's a good opportunity for him to see where he is and get ready for the upcoming Regions. Now, he's short changed his opportunity because some coach is more concerned with protecting his wrestlers that facing the competition. Thanks for the idea. I'll call my friends at the TSSAA and see if we can get this on the Agenda... something needs to be done to protect ALL TEAMS and not just the favorites!
  7. There should be a penalty for a team canceling matches for any other reason that weather related issues. We've had three teams this week cancel matches that have been on the books since the beginning of the season. Come on coaches! Do what's right and keep your dates. Other than weather related issues, once you set a date you should keep it. The TSSAA should fine teams that do not honor their schedule. We're a small team and cannot afford the tournaments that many teams have each season. We depend on our matches for our wrestlers to get their mat time during the season. Out of respect for the sport, honor your dates. I'll step down off the soapbox now!
  8. I'm sorry for the false report. It appears that our Principal made the same boneheaded decision. What, can parents not be responsible for their own children any more.... please, it's a Saturday. Have a great tournament Ravenwood... Would love to have been there.
  9. F.Y.I. - I'm told that the Ravenwood Invitational has been cancelled for tomorrow.
  10. Izzy... you'll find that the better the boys do, the harder it's going to be to get the pin call. I've always thought the officials in Tennessee take entirely too long to call a pin based on the rule book. We will be in a tournament in St. Louis, MO (third one in a row) next weekend. They call it in Missouri like it should be.. two count and slap. No waffling or giving the guy a chance to fight out. When you're pinned, you're pinned. I take a lot of photos and my camera rolls off a lot of shots in just a few seconds. When I have 10-15 shots with a guys points on the mat, it's a pin. Goodluck to the boys. I guess we'll see you guys next week.
  11. Now wait a minute dead. I never said that, don't go putting words in my mouth... especially if you're going to call me out! Harpeth has done very well this season all things considered. Several injuries have put a few key spots out over the past month. The team has won several matches this year in-spite of giving up 24 points off the top. That's a hard number to recover from. Many of Harpeth's duals losses have been by less than the margin of the forfeits, so again... not bad all things considered. I'm not taking anything away from Clarksville or any other team in the Region, I'm just saying if all spots were filled... things would a lot different. Its especially frustrating when you have a coach as good as Ricky Woods, someone who has managed to take a team to the State Duals that past two seasons while giving up 12-18 points the past two seasons, while wrestling guys up to fill other spots. I know mine as wrestled up nearly two classes the past two seasons. Last year he fought to stay above 152lb just do he could wrestle 171 for the team. It would be nice if our football coach would "strongly" encourage his players to wrestle to help them get stronger and stay in condition during their off-seasons, but we can't seem to get him there. I won't jump on that one. We'll see you guys on Thursday... Yes, there will be come good matches come out of dual... I just hope everyone will stay healthy!
  12. Harpeth faces Clarksville this week, we'll see how things shake out. Obviously, with Harpeth giving up four bouts to forfeits, things will be tough as a team. However, there should be some pretty good matches (119) Cantrell vs. Snow, (125) Bass vs. Isbell, (160) Bradshaw vs. McGaha. Could be a preview of the Region Finals.
  13. Mid-Season is here... I haven't seen a lot of these names on the list this season. How about some updates.
  14. The last list that I saw had these teams. Not sure if it has changed, but here it is: Creek Wood Montgomery Central Dickson Harpeth East Literature Heritage Maplewood Antioch Clarksville Northeast Clarksville Northwest Rossview Sycamore Kenwood Clarksville East Robertson Raleigh Egypt FRA (They may be a scratch)
  15. McGavock, if you need a good company to come do your tournament shirts, give me a call. We've done a few for Coach Hambrick already this year, including Creek Wood.
  16. Knuckles... We'll see Rossview again in January. I'm sure you'll have another opportunity to complain about the refs when we face you again at that time. It's amazing to me the inability of some to admit that sometimes someone is better on any given day. Harpeth has always been a tough team, Ricky makes the most out of what he has every season. If Harpeth could ever get our football program on the same page with the wrestling program and get some linemen to man-up and get involved in our wrestling program in the upper levels, then you would see a dramatic change in this Region. Harpeth fails to complete for a State title because of forfeits in classes where we can find someone to wrestle. Over the past three years, my son has virtually wrestled up two weight classes to help the team. He sacrificed has sacrificed a better career win-loss record at Harpeth because he has wrestled up over the past three seasons. Ricky has built a program that remains competitive in spite of these challenges. To make the sort of comments that you have made, well as Cleat said... you're an idiot! See you in January... we'll see then what happens.
  17. Hey Coaches... If you are in need of team gear, on-site t-shirts, custom medals, awards and plaques for your tournaments send me a message, I have a guy that does a great job on everything and offers a great return on sales for your tournaments. The custom medals for the tournaments are off the chart and will really impress your attendees and best of all they're not much more than stock medals that have been engraved.
  18. Slow movement at Harpeth on a replacement. However, I spoke with Drew a few days ago. He has some positive prospects he is working. Whomever gets him will get a great coach. I was blessed with two boys, but if I ever had a girl I would want her to play for drew. Harpeth's loss will be someone elses gain! He's a great coach who truly cares about his players on and off the court.
  19. Coach Mick, Don't forget about me for your shirts, gear and other stuff you need this season. I carry Adidas and Brute Wrestling Gear too. On-Site Shirts too... Call me 615-378-1066.
  20. Harpeth didn't lose their 160 - he's back again for his Senior year.
  21. Congrats DC - Good to see an ole friend of mine and former teammate go on to be a part of something great!
  22. I know, I know... these problems are everywhere, but the fact still remains that there are issues at Harpeth that are not being resolved. While some leave for better jobs, how many leave for other reasons? How well is the administration researching their selections? Are all sides being heard, or are we dealing with a one-sided skewed view and a knee-jerk reaction here? I agree with you - the support must be in place and it does start at the top. If the board is to blame then so bit it. However, the fact still remains that the board can only offer opinion when it comes to the hiring and firing of teachers and administrators within the school system. The ultimate responsibility lies with the Director and the Principal of the respective school. The topic at hand is what is happening at Harpeth. While this problem exists elsewhere in this county, it does not remove blame from those that have the control to make the right decisions at the school level. That responsibility still, and will always remain, with the Principal.
  23. Get Tommy Victory out of the picture and you'll have more applicants.
