  1. You can't win both overall MVP and defensive/offensive MVP.
  2. Indy will be in a rebuilding year but they have some pretty good linemen in the current sophomore class. They have the best returning QB in the region and some young talent at the skill positions. Look for them to surprise some people and possibly contend for the fourth playoff spot. They will be really, really good in 2009 (Heckman's senior year)
  3. Way to take a quote out of context to attempt to prove a point. I was saying that WC should be ranked ahead of Farragut, which I guess you just didn't read, because you aren't capable of reading past the word 'FARRAGUT.' How can you realistically say Indy didn't deserve to be there? Is it their fault that they are geographically located in Region 6, which puts them on the Western side of the bracket? I know they played awfully Saturday night, but they won the games they needed to win to get there. Don't fault the team, fault the system. But I guess we're on here to discredit and diminish the accomplishments of 15-18 year old kids, aren't we? Pathetic.
  4. We all know you love the Admirals, but how can you possibly say that they deserve to be ranked over WC? Farragut didn't really play well against Bearden, while WC not only knocked off Riverdale, but forced Smyrna to win a heck of a physical game.
  5. Nervous? Maybe. We appreciate the kind words, but we won't many excuses. We played bad football for the first half against a team that capitalizes on your each and every mistake. No way to win when that happens.
  6. What was the score of the Bearden vs. Millington game for 3rd place?
  7. It's already in the mail. Maybe Rod Wilks can Fed-Ex his Mr. Football award to Andre Sterling, that way the Farragut people can feel better. Then, everybody would be happy.
  8. Clearly Smyrna paid the refs though. That's the only reason they're good, right? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  9. Farragut, why don't you make it to the state title game first and then we'll talk.
  10. Okay sorry, but NO. Indy played a terrible game. That probably didn't matter, Smyrna is clearly the better team. But you think that they couldn't even beat the bottom feeders in the region? Are you serious? That's a ridiculous thing to say and you know it. I understand that you're just trying to make a point, and I understand that the East is a tougher bracket, but you are out of your mind if you think that those teams would've beaten Independence. I'm sorry, but you are just mistaken.
  11. Smyrna capitalizes on every mistake their opponents make...that's a sign of a great football team. They finished this one off early and didn't let Independence hang around and make a game of it. Very impressive. First team to repeat in 5A since the split.
  12. I think the east annually has a tougher road, but they don't always have the best team.
  13. Congratulations to Smyrna. Clearly the best team in Class 5A won this game. Gray and Wilks have been a pleasure to watch and Bryson is scary good for a freshman. Eagles, I know it's hard to see at the moment, but you guys should be extremely proud of what you accomplished. Thanks for the memories over these past four years, seniors. We'll miss you tremendously.
  14. Independence 21 Smyrna 17 I said this last week and I'll say it again. THIS is YOUR time, boys. Now go out there and take it.
  15. Maybe. I think you're underestimating my boys, though.
  16. In a few minutes, both of these teams' seniors will be beginning their final high school football practice. For many, this will be the very last football practice of their lives. Sure, it's just a walk through, but it's extremely significant. Some great articles about Sonny in the DNJ, by the way.
  17. Hope everything goes off without a hitch...we at Independence tried to have a big pep rally on Friday but leave it to our completely inept principal to drop the ball on that one.
  18. You mean that the defending state champs will get beaten by a young, hungry team? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  19. I guess you have selective memory. Last year, Smyrna (a relatively inexperienced team when it came to the postseason) took on the defending state champions, who had all of the "experience" in the world. Then, Smyrna won. So that kind of shoots down your theory. I guess it would be unfair to compare RHS and IHS...IHS is just a slow, unathletic team that's merely happy to be in the state championship and they're just going to lay down and let Smyrna win their second straight gold ball. Remember Eagles, it wouldn't be worth it if it was EASY!
  20. Spring Hill/Thompson's Station is a very blue collar area. The growth was started by the building of the GM Plant (formerly Saturn) a few miles down the road, and a lot of these players have mothers and fathers that put in the blue collar work on the assembly line, just as Smyrna has the Nissan plant. I'm not trying to stir up debate about anything, just pointing out yet another similarity these two schools share.
  21. You're correct. In all levels of football, Running Into the Kicker is just a five yard penalty penalized five yards from the previous spot. Roughing is a personal foul, 15 yards, and an automatic first down. Don't forget now that Indy had 9 penalties as well, including two touchdowns called back on the drive where they made the field goal.
