  1. I think they only person that could stop Sorrell is Sorrell. He's the top of the AAA heap this year, he's already so far ahead that any improvements he makes will keep him out front. Crazy thing is, most years we would be very exciting by a 9:24 right now, talking about the potential for a state record. This year, we have a wonderkid from Nashville who's still THIRTY PLUS SECONDS in front of that
  2. I think he's a thrower, a very good one if my memory serves. I'm not sure with the four event rule that those two guys can win the state by themselves, I think that's a bit of a stretch this year. Even if Bernard won all three jumps and Thomas both throws, that's fifty...I don't think that's going to hold up. And we all know Simeon Harris can jump out of the pit if he feels like jumping, anyway. Too much depth elsewhere this year...those guys aren't Sean Waller. They are very good.
  3. WR: 400 m 43.18 Michael Johnson USA Seville (ESP) 8/26/99 By the way, there have been numerous people to run under 44, not just Michael Johnson. The claim that MJ took steroids is unfounded and unsupported.
  4. Ha, some years it is hot enough at BGA that they are half conscious
  5. Lauren Stewart in AAA girls will crush the field. Any girl that can high jump 6' would just have to be average in every other event to win the pentathlon. And she's far better than average in the LJ and the high hurdles, as well. Game over in girls AAA.
  6. HL will have to reload...the 4 event rule will hurt Bernard Wilson badly...he's such a good jumper that you just don't expect to see him much on the track this year. They'll need more depth to compete with you guys.
  7. And who is going to aruge with Jack Daniels???? I was thinking the 4:17 sounded right, but I'll buy that. Our last guy who ran a 4:25 also ran a 1:58. We've never had a 1:54 or a 4:11, that's for sure. That sounds about right when you think about Bumbi as well.
  8. The smallest team is easy...1. I've seen a number of one person teams. I'm purely guessing here (wildly) when I say this...but I imagine that most AAA schools try to carry on average about 20 girls and 20 guys a piece. Obviously that number can fluxuate WILDLY, but if it were to be averaged out, I'd guess that. Big teams are rarely the best teams at state, we've seen that sooooooo many times where a team of 1-4 kids wins the whole state by themselves.
  9. Bearden is going to be rock solid, and Webb will likely win the AAA 400m...I admit that. The 4x4 (depending on how each school chooses to stack it) could become a great battle for that title. Indoor is a different animal, I will concede that as well. I'm just basically rolling my eyes at all these "webb is my dawg homie g money can run a 39.6" kids that junk up this and other boards that have no knowledge of the state at large. I just can't get over how varied Harris's talents are.
  10. Dear East Tennesseans who have never seen the rest of the state, Meet Simeon Harris. This guy beat your Bryan Webb by OVER A SECOND in the 400m last month in Lexington. Nothing against Webb, he's a great runner, but those of you who think he is the only 400 guy in the state, crawl out of your hole and read the results. Fortunately for Webb, Harris probably won't even run the 400m at state as he is one of the top 300IH kids in the southeast US. Joik'n knows what I'm talking about, he got to compete against last month as well. Finals 1 Harris, Simeon 12 Cordova TC -TN 48.74N 1 2 Roper, Kai 12 DeMatha Catholic-MD 49.61N 3 3 Hall, Garnell 11 Unattached -MD 49.71N 1 4 Webb, Bryan Knoxville TC -TN, K 49.92N 1 5 Hancock, James 12 New Horizon -GA 50.15N 2 6 Buckner, Dante 12 DeMatha Catholic-MD 50.25N 2 7 Gregory, Kendall 9 Lake Ridge Acad-OH 50.41N 2 8 Lemon, Michael 11 DeMatha Catholic-MD 50.59N 2 9 Grace, Nathan Knoxville TC -TN, K 50.78 3 10 Martin, Dennis 12 Quick Stridrs-SC 51.06 2 11 Valentine, Kelvin 12 MI Accelratrs-MI 51.09 2 12 Jeffries, Justin 11 Cordova TC -TN 51.36 3 etc...
  11. We've got some guys 800m relay that can't break 1:50
  12. I would guess 110HH, 300IH and 4x4 if Cordova has the man power in the 4x4 (like they often do), plus the jumping. Must be nice to have the luxury of picking which event you'd like to try to win the state in.
  13. Amen on Simeon Harris. I've known he was devasting in both hurdle races, but check out that 400m time...that's not too far off the national lead indoors for 400m in '05. He's got the longevity to go to the next level and step up and become a ferocious 400IH guy if he wants to be. I think it is safe to say he's the best male athlete (emphasis: athlete) in the state this year. UKINV had Harris, Brenard Wilson (Hunters Lane), Bumbi (BA), Lauren Stewart (Brentwood), Phillipa Davis (BA), Tom Divinnie (Brentwood), Billingsley (McMinn), Johnson (Lavergne), Rita Jorgenson and Virginia Hine (White Station), Sorrell (Bolton), Curry (USN), Bryan Webb (Bearden), Jill Skinner (BHS) and a host of other TN preps. That's just what I can remember off the top of my head...kids that have all either won TSSAA individual titles, or are serious contenders for such. There is not a single meet in TN, indoor or out, that gets that depth of quality together before state. Correct me if I'm wrong. I know I left several kids off that list, I'm too lazy to look it up.
  14. That's a bit of a broad generalization to make against an entire program. I hope whatever led you to this conclusion is based on something concrete (it may very well be). I agree Henry has the edge at home for the #4 spot. The Knights are a year or two away from having a shot at this thing again.
  15. Oh, but a lot of those geeks aren't being very civil There seem to be some slightly agitated folks from Texas who thought McPherson had the South and maybe the national race in the bag. Surprise. Jill's jump is extraordinary. I mean, she's been great around here for some time, but that jump was absolutely insane. Coach Roberts of Knox West had her three mile split at 16:55. I don't care how fast McAlpine is (I've run it twice, I admit it is extremely quick), that is just crazy. We all knew Bumbi was 14 flat caliber after state, but seeing Jill's time made my head explode. Bumbi has a legit shot to win it. The majority (or maybe the plurality) at this point that have any idea who is actually racing favor Andrew to win a close race in San Diego on an obviously more difficult course. Jill has a definite shot at top ten, meaning her collegiate stock is rising as quickly as any senior xc female in the US right now. LJ, we'll be in the midstate meeting while the national race is going on. I wonder if we'll get cell phone updates from any of BA's people there? As if any of the BA people will actually go the meeting...I'm sure they'll flock to San Diego, they deserve to!
  16. Add AAA All-Stater Jamie Babb (of Northwest) to Austin Peay's recruiting class.
  17. Two things... One, there will never be a single A championship here. The meet would simply be so diluted it would be pitiful. Take this for example...in our currently combined A/AA system, one A-AA region in middle Tennessee last month did not even send 3 teams to state because they couldn't even get 3 FULL TEAMS to show up at regional. And that's with A and AA combined...not even 3 full teams to attend. The single A schools are at a slight disadvantage in our system, but it isn't typical AA schools that are beating good single A teams...it is your private non-DII schools like FRA and Lipscomb, that you already mentioned. Two, I believe you are on to something about the MSCC association recognizing its smaller teams. I spoke to Kevin Doty at regional about this last month, and he agreed with my position. I am set to make a proposal next month at the coaches meeting in December that will in effect recognize the excellent small schools in the association like WHH, Page, and even some of the newer ones like Nashville Christian. I think my proposal makes sense when you see it and that you will be pleased with it if it passes...
  18. Uhh, it might have something to do with a guy named McDonnell. The Irishman is the most successful NCAA coach in any sport, ever. Taking his game somewhere like Fayetteville, AR or Madison, WI will surround him with guys that can actually push him on a day to day basis and actually make him faster. Andrew doesn't owe Tennessee anything.
  19. Stanford is out for Andrew. He is still considering Georgetown, Colorado, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Villanova, Florida, Virginia, and Belmont as of this week.
  20. Thank GOD if this holds up. Now the bigger question is, will the steeplechase dry up to a firm enough level to support the ludicrous times Bumbi and Skinner and others are capable of putting up.
  21. Do you not have a JV race in Region 3? We've always had one in Region 5. Gives the underclassman a chance to see the course (if the course stays in the same place from year to year).
  22. It ABSOLUTELY makes sense to me. You have my vote.
  23. 9:15 on Thursday night, and here are the results of 8 races...all 4 races from Region 4 (Columbia-Rippavilla), and all 4 races from Region 5 (Goodlettsville-Moss Wright Park). It's on my personal webspace until I move it to the MSCC site. You're welcome. Region 4 and 5 Results. Complete. Yay. Congrats to my teams for the girls finishing 2nd in the 5AAA and four our boys winning the 5AAA side...I get to take 14 kids to the steeplechase next weekend
  24. Actually no...I just predicted the order of the boys teams in the championship race. Which by the way, was exactly how they finished 1-6, I think? How was that for predictions? White House Heritage right now is better than Page. And Page is better than we are. On the state level, both should be top 5 state threats, I would guess. I don't know much about A/AA.
  25. For anyone in region 5, we are running a new course this year. I got a copy by fax today of the course map, made a rough scan of it, and posted it here if anybody wants it. I tried to post this to the midstate site, but I was having server problems at school. Region 5 Course Map (Goodlettsville)
