  1. West is capable of winning this game, but so is Volunteer. If West spots Volunteer 21 points, then we will lose the game. West needs to go to Church Hill and control the game from start to finish. West cannot give Volunteer a chance to win and needs to put them out of the game early. Then West needs to control the ball and the clock to bring home the win. This game is as dangerous as the Greeneville game and if West does not control from start to finish, West will lose. If West offense comes out playing from the start as we did in the second half at Greeneville, they will be OK. West cannot let Volunteer have a short field and the defense will have to play as good as they have all season. If West makes any mistakes, Volunteer will take advantage of them. I believe West will win, but we will have to put together a complete game to get this win.
  2. I believe Barner ate our lunch, but I am not sure. I think it was the shorter of the two (#7 perhaps), but I have tried to forget as much as possible about that night.
  3. I hope East is able to find themselves this week and comes out ready to play football on Friday. It is amazing to me (I am on the other side of town) how much East is struggling. I know the athletes they have and know they can play football. However, there is a lack of .... something that is keeping East from reaching an even keel. I know the injuries have hurt this team and removed their identity, but those mostly happened in preseason or week 2. There comes a time when a team has to come together and play like a team. I hope that this is the week for that to happen at East (the only game I ever want East to lose is against West). However, Greeneville is hitting on all cylinders. We were finally able to put some offense together, but it was too little too late. If East can use their offense, move the ball, and control the clock they will have a chance to win this game. If they are not able to move the ball and give Greeneville a short field, Greeneville will score 30+ points. The running back is lightning in a bottle. If East does not stop him, Greeneville will score 50+ points. I would like to encourage East, but as a fan, I know nothing makes you feel better than a win. So, hopefully, you will be encouraged after Friday night.
  4. I have to add my congratulations also. Greeneville played a great game and were ready from the start. Unfortunately, our offense struggled (not the first time) and left the defense on the field too much the first half. You cannot spot a bad team a 21 point lead, much less a team as good as Greeneville. Luckily, we did show some life the second half and do have something on which to build. Also, it would be too easy to blame the officials for what we west fans consider the blown pass inter fence call. The fact of the matter is that we should not have been in a position to have to have the officials make the call. Bottom line is that West did not play well enough to win the game from start to finish. Yes, the second half was a fantastic comeback, but it was a comeback. I do not think anyone can say that Greeneville did not deserve the win, no matter what the officials did or did not do. It would have made the loss a little easier had the call been made, but we should not have been in the position to be at the mercy of the officials. One other thing: kudos to the web site. Great information and something that should be mandatory for all 5 rivers teams or at least for the conference (see the Mountain Lakes Conference Site for another good site). It is a shame that every team does not do this.
  5. There is no doubt in this West fan's mind that Greeneville is capable of beating us this year. I am not saying that Greeneville is so overpowering that it will be a cakewalk for Greeneville, but that they are capable of taking advantage of any of West's mistakes and that West is so inconsistent that there is no telling which team will show up. The offense plays lights out and can score at will or cannot make a first down. There does not seem to be an in-between. Fortunately, the defense has played much better the last few weeks, but we have not played a spread team. Unfortunately, the spread offense is going to play to our weakness--(spreading us out expecting a pass) pass defense. I am not saying that every team we play can pass at will, but I am saying that our run defense is much stronger that our pass defense (both would get a passing grade). If we can stay with our base defense we will be able to handle Greeneville, but if we start having to run 4 or 5 CB sets, we will have some trouble. I have not seen Greeneville except in the jamboree, so i cannot really speak of their strengths or weaknesses. However, based on their record, they have shown their own inconsistencies and less than stellar play. So, it comes down to feeling and which team refuses to lose. There is no doubt that both teams want this win. There is no doubt that both teams are capable of winning. There is no doubt that both teams are capable of miscues to trigger a loss. However, I believe that West has more to prove then Greeneville. Their reputation as the cream of the 5 Rivers is being called into question tonight by an extremely good Greeneville team. I believe the West players' desire to win and refusal to lose will be enough to bring the win to Morristown. The score West 24 Greeneville 21.
  6. I believe East will win, but it will not be because of their offense. They have the athletes, but have failed to come together (not counting the CC game) and show any consistency. I think Volunteer will find a way to lose the game, not that East will find a way to win. There is no doubt that last year is playing on the mind of Volunteer and the team might try too hard to be perfect to not let that happen again. This mindset will be against them and the mistake for the game will occur.
  7. This looks like one of the best Greeneville teams West has seen in awhile. Their production is very good and their defense is stingy. Just looking at what I can compare between the teams and have the following: West Points for 131 (18.7/game) Points Against 112 (16/game) Conference Foes Points For 105 (26.3/game) Points Against 28 (7/game) Opponents Record 27-23 Common Foes Jeff, Cherokee, Boone -- West is 2-1 against these teams Points for 73 (24.3/game) Points Against 49 (16.3/game) Greeneville Points for 165 (23.6/game) Points Against 89 (12.7/game) Conference Foes Points For 111 (27.8/game) Points Against 47 (11.8/game) Opponents Record 26-25 Common Foes Record 2-1 Points For 73 (24.3/game) Points Against 47 (15.7/game) There is no doubt that either team can win this game. The offense, defense, and special teams will not be able to make any mistakes because the opponent is capable of taking advantage of any mistakes. I do not believe it will be a blow out on either side. The winning team will make the other pay for a mistake and come out with the win. I am a West fan and believe we will win. However, I also know that Greeneville is at the top of the conference in talent/ability and has a real opportunity to beat us this year. If we control Greenway, we win. If not, we lose.
  8. Some stats about both teams: West Points For 106 (17.7/game) Points Against 105 (17.5/game) Against Conference Opponents Points For 80 (26.7/game) Points Against 21 (7/game) Opponents Record 21 - 17 Boone Points For 123 (20.5/game) Points Against 92 (15.3/game) Against Conference Opponents Points For 54 (18/game) Points Against 33 (11/game) Opponents Record 14 - 22 Both teams are extremely even on paper. There are no common opponents to judge results against. I feel West will win this game. However, we will have to play as well as we have played all year to win.
  9. Boone was on the turf during the jamboree, so they have a little experience. Also, this is not the same turf that was in the dome. The surface does not seem to make that much of a difference to most players, except there seem to be alot more fumbles. It is much better than the dirt/mud that would have been there by this time of the year. I have not seen anyone playing in tennis shoes, but I guess it would work. However, the turf is designed to be played on with cleats.
  10. The West people have been quiet all year. It is a little difficult coming off undefeated regular seasons to what has happened this year, and most people are unsure of this team's capabilities. The defense has played fairly well in most of the games (even the losses), but the special teams and offense have yet to have a complete game against a quality opponent (played well enough against East to win, but not a complete game). Also, there is not a lot of knowledge about Boone in this neck of the woods. We have not played any common opponents this year, nor have we heard alot about the team. So, all of this together has us holding our hands up and saying who knows. There is no doubt our defense will be able to play with Boone, but if they stay on the field we will lose the game. However, if the offense can eat some clock, sustain some drives, and keep Boone on a long field we will win.
  11. I saw the first and agree with you. It did not seem as though the East player was being malicious and was just there when the West player was trying to get up. However, there was a huge outcry from the West side and that may have played into the entire call. I did not see the second call, so I cannot comment on it. I hate that the fouls give East a reason to question the win, but I am glad West got the win. However, our offense did not play very well -- the Jekyll offense came to the East game. We made too many mistakes and too many fouls to stop the drives. The defense played well, but they were helped by East's offensive play. So, if Boone will be kind enough to oblige with similar plays, it would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Offense is about consistency. The players involved have to become comfortable with each other. If there is no comfort, the offense suffers considerably. I realize East has had injury troubles, but if Hatcher cannot find a unit and stay with it, the offense is not going to click. However, if changes are going to be made this is not a bad game for East to make changes. I do not believe Cocke County will be a push over for East (due to the offensive troubles), but East's defense will keep them in the game and keep CC off balance all night. In the end East will have a two TD win.
  13. I did not realize we kept them on their side of the field all night. I did notice their offense did not work, but thought they did a little better than that. As we were leaving we heard some East fans saying that West cheated and paid off the officials. I know that was an emotion talking, but was wondering if you had a record of the penalties for each team. It seemed fairly even at the end.
  14. I do not know if any MoEast fan is very interested in talking about West. I expected a little more offense from East myself given the speed that is on their team, but a one dimensional team is going to have problems unless they are so over powering the other team cannot stop them. East is not that overpowering and after watching the game, I believe they are missing Ramsey more than any of them will admit. Their defense is very good, but our offense is struggling. By that I mean, one game we look great -- no one can stop us, and the next we look befuddled, we do not need anyone to stop us, we will do it ourselves. Our defense is playing pretty well, there are still some players learning positions and missing tackles. However, we are starting to move to the ball better and usually have another player in position to make a play. The question is...does Boone have a passing attack? If they come in one dimensional, West will beat them. It may be another 10 point win, but West will win. However, if Boone can spread the field, this may cause some trouble for West. I know that Boone will be a tough opponent (big win over Greeneville), but they seem a little inconsistent (loss to Volunteer, whom Greeneville beat). So, I guess it is a question as to which Boone will be coming to Morristown? All that being said, West wins by at least 10.
  15. I do not see how West was the favorite going into the 04 game their record was 2-3 (East's was 1-3); neither team was very good that year and both lost in the first round of the playoffs. Unless you are going on the history of the series, then West could have been the favorite. This year is about the same West is 2-3 and East is 3-2. I cannot say one team is much of a favorite this year. Again, both are good teams, but neither are great. That being said, if West is disciplined they will win.
  16. It is too easy for both sides to look at this game emotionally and declare a winner. While West has not played up to the standards of years past, they are a good team. While East has not reached the predictions that were given on earlier boards, they are a good team. Neither team has played to their potential yet, but I believe both teams are strong in the region. The downside to both teams are the mistakes they are making. Here are some statistics on both teams: West Points For 96 (19.2/game) Points Against 105 (21/game) Coach T Schedule Rank 22nd Strength Rank 17th Opponents Record 15 -12 (West has been shut out 1 game) East Points For 64 (12.8/game) Points Against 76 (15.2/game) Coach T Schedule Rank 43rd Strength Rank 28th Opponents Record 11-16 (East has been shut out 1 game and failed to score a TD in 1 game) So, West has scored 6.4 more points/game, but they have had 5.8 more points/game scored against them. We have both lost to Jeff and beat Crockett. On paper, this is a very even game. The question will be who wants the win more. Both teams are looking to prove who they are and they are both excited to prove it against the home town rival. If West is able to play assignment football and stop East's ground game they will win. Also, West has played two schools who run the same type offense as East (1-1 record). I know that most posters feel this is East's year, but I do not think so. I do not think it will be a run away win as both of last year's games were, but West will win by at least 10. The only concern I have is having the open week before East. If that were not the case I believe West would win by more.
  17. If the West offense performs, this will not be a close game. However, who knows which offense is going to be on the field. If it is the offense from the Jeff or SH game, we will loose. I am sure the defense will be able to limit Crockett to 2 touchdowns or less, but with the offense showing Jekyll one moment and Hyde the next, I do not know if the we will be able to score 3 for the win.
  18. There is no doubt that West is not as dominating to our out of conference opponents as in years past. However, this is still a good team. There have been a number of position changes over the summer and throughout the first two games, so there are some players still learning their positions. Also, the o'line is very young. They have yet to dominate a game, but have flashes of brilliance. Overall a team that is learning on the fly and that is getting better every week. Now for the question, are they to the point to beat a fast SH team? If the West that controlled the Cherokee game plays, then we will beat SH. If the West that allowed Catholic and Jeff dictate the game is on the field we will be blown away. If the controlling West is on the field West wins by 7; if the other West in on the field we lose by 21.
  19. Seems as though Jeff was a little hung over after the West win. I expected them to win last week and was surprised that they did not pull it out. If Jeff is as fired up about playing East as they were playing West they will win. However, if they cannot beat East emotionally, they will loose. The worst thing for East is they are playing at Jeff, so East will have to get up (and stay up) to bring the win home. I would give the nod to East, but Jeff is going to be upset losing last week, and East has squeeked out wins against teams with much less talent than Jeff. Jeff wins by at least 14.
  20. According to the Tribune, Dockery is no longer on the team. Does this change East's offense? Is he off the team for good or is this just a suspension? Did he play any against Karns?
  21. JJ is Kaleb's cousin, not his brother. Ethan and JJ are brothers and Kaleb and Jordonn are brothers.
  22. That explains why Jeff has been so successful the past few years. I used to think Jeff was a little classy, but you and a number of your students have changed my mind. Perhaps some day soon the grass will again be green in Jeff and you won't have only Carson Newman for your football wins.
  23. And here I thought it was all love in Morristown.
  24. No one in Morristown is calling a win by Catholic an upset. I believe we do have a good team, but a lot of players have changed positions and this is not going to be a good game to see what they have learned. I have not spoken to anyone who feels that West is favored. I feel the score will be close. Hopefully, a little higher on the West side.
