  1. There appear to be several different views of this play. but, UMrebel21, you obviously were not there. There were no cleats in the air and whoever told you that didn't see it. The Brentwood player was going up to head the ball (unless he's a contortionist he couldn't get his cleats into a chest). The ball, bounced and had not been touched by the Franklin keeper. That's a 50/50 ball the striker has every right to try and head that ball into the goal. Had the Franklin keeper gon e up for the bal with outstretched hands the 2 players would probably have hit chests. But as it was the Keeper stayed on the ground and the airborne Brentwood striker went over his back. That made it look very bad. I honestly don't even remember if the Franklin keeper went to the ground. Then the Franklin player came in with a shove to the ground and another Franklin player had to be physically restrained by teammates. It appeared that when the ref was trying to explain the call to the Brentwood coach that he kept bringing his knee up. Which, I took to mean that the ref thopught the Brentwood player had brought his knee up intentionally into the Franklin keeper. That part is speculation on my part of what I thought I saw the ref doing. My opinion is that it could have been a no-call on both players going for a 50/50 ball. Possibly a foul even a weak yellow, because the Brentwood player was a bit out of control and jumped into the keeper. A Red was not called for in this situation and was a bad call that results in long term repercussions. Looked to me like he over reacted. The ref in this game overall did not do a bad job. There were times when I could see the game getting more and more physical and heading out-of-control and felt the ref could have calmed it down with a call here and there.
  2. Your money would probably be better spent toward a club program. That is unless you just want a nice field instead of a self suporting program
  3. Based upon my premise, only calls against the defense result in a PK, calls against the offense generally only result in a restart. So if a referee is hesitant to make a call that resaults in a PK, the defense likely gets a bit more leeway. Players are more aggressive in the box, because attackers are frantically trying to score and defenders are frantically trying to prevent scoring, they are focused on the ball and whatever they have to do. Sir if you have never called a dive, I assume that means that you've never seen a dive. In which case that portion of your question has no meaning, because you have to be able to recognize it and it really isn't that hard.
  4. I think it is the referees that have established a different level of play inside the penalty area vs. outside. IMO most referees do not have the confidence/experience/courage to consistently make the same calls inside the 18 that they will make at the halfline, due to the consequences of that call. However, I do understand that very experienced referees may make some calls in the middle third, particularly early in the game, to establish the type of play that will be allowed, that are not deserving of a PK inside the 18. Having read all of the posts over the last several weeks, some border on the ridiculous regarding how the game should be called inside the 18. More yellow cards for diving would put a stop to some of that stuff. Watching to many Italy games on TV. Referees take a beating on here, but most of the people watching a game do not have a clue regarding the rules in the first place (especially offsides). The most that a player, coach or fan can ask from a referee is: that they hustle to be in the correct position to make the call(s), they are knowledgeable, make their calls with confidence, stay out of the way and be consistent in the calls that are made. Most experienced players have had games called by good, bad and indifferent referess and they will adapt to how the game is called. As long as the calls are consistent.
  5. Didn't Siegel High School play their games there? At one time they did I thought.
  6. Not to downplay the accomplishments of CCS, but State Tournament Games should NEVER EVER be played on anyone's home field. Can't blame the school for having all the students come to the game anymore than if FRA or someone else emptied the school and bused them to the game. Just not right that anyone has a home field advantage during this tournament. Fans aside each field has it's own differences and particulars.
  7. True, but girls soccer IS the only sport that we are discussing on this thread. Also, the title of the thread is AAA Region Tournament and that is what is being discussed here. Sorry if the statement that I posted infuriated you or seemed like disrespect to the District 12 girls. That was not my intent. I think it is unfortunate for the girls of District 12 that it always works out that way.
  8. The scores you refer to are during the regular season. The discussion was focused on the Region Tournament. That was what I was refering to. Sorry about the confusion.
  9. Post season play should not be on football fields. They are too narrow and short, the crown is too large and they are generally chewed up by this time of the season.
  10. A District 12 girls team has never beaten a District 11 team. In the boys a few years ago Glenclif (Dist. 12) beat Ravenwood and I'm thinking that another Dist 12 boys team won a game also.
  11. Many mistake the cause of head injuries as coming from heading the ball. Reports do not show that to be the case, while many of the head inujuries do occur during that activity. It is the head-to-head contact from 2 players going for the ball that is most damaging, along with head to ground contact. The number of goalkeepers that play at a high level that have had concussions is astounding. Good goalkeepers courageously throw themselves into harms way on a regular basis. They in turn are hit by knees, feet and the ball in the head. Most are not fouls, so it's not that people are playing dirty with them. It's just part of the game. Yes, I am a concerned parent and do very well understand the resistance of the players to accept any additional equipment. Yet, having seen first hand the results of some of these types of injuries that may have been prevented by headgear, it seems logical that it should be looked at. Would they all have been prevented, maybe...maybe not...I don't think we have any way to evaluate that. The head injuries to the face are not what I am talking about. It's the injuries that affect the brain that are of concern. Do I propose football helmets for futbol players...absolutely not. But, It's my thought that the only way it will become commonplace for head protection to be worn is to start with the kids when they first start playing. Then it is just another piece of equipment...like shinguards.
  12. Did it take you a week to find that Harbrace Handbook big one
  13. Ravenwood has an outstanding defense and the Coach has developed a system that fits his players well. They are obviously comfortable with it and play well together within that system. Congratulations to Ravenwood. In the other District 11 AAA game Franklin was really hitting on all cylinders. They looked very very good. If they can continue that type of play anyone that beats them is going to be an outstanding team. Their defense was stifling and their attack was from all angles, with a lot of good possession and quick accurate passing. Good luck to both teams as they advance.
  14. What are the rules for overtime in TN High School? Is it golden goal within 2-10min. overtimes or 2 full 10 min. overtimes then PKs w/ no score or 2-5 min. overtimes then PKs w/ no score
  15. District 11 AAA Semi-finals Wednesday Oct 17 at Ravenwood High School 5:00 Franklin vs. Centennial 7:00 Brentwood vs. Ravenwood This should be a night of outstanding soccer
  16. Ensworth was eliminated by Father Ryan
  17. District 11 AAA Tournament Final regular season standings used to determine tournament seeding are: 1. Franklin 2. Brentwood 3. Ravenwood 4. Centennial 5. Independence 6. Hillsboro 7. Hillwood 8. John Overton Tournament Quarterfinals to be played on Mon. Oct. 15 at higher seed. Game 1 – Overton at Franklin Game 2 – Hillwood at Brentwood Game 3 - Hillsboro at Ravenwood Game 4 – Independence at Centennial Tournament Semifinals to be played on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Ravenwood H.S. Winner Game 6. Both teams playing in the Final will advance to the Region Tournament.
  18. As they would in the format I proposed.
  19. Thanks for the effort EHS parent, but that is about as clear as mud. I think I may get it though. One question is, based upon what you presented, #1 Mid and #1 East play in a knock out game? It seems that #1 & #2 East would play #3 & #4 Mid for the right to advance, or is it just the loser of # 3 and #4 mid game that is eliminated, since 5 advance? Also, it seems that all of the teams are playing each other prior to the STATE FINALS in Chattanooga. This all seems a very odd way to do this. Who on earth put together such a complicated system and what was wrong with the other? Seems like it would have been a lot simpler to let the 3 regions east, mid, west play their respective tournaments, locally, crown a Region Champion. Each of the 3 region champions advance to Chattanooga. The 3 second place teams get together play a 3 team round robin and the winner of that also advances. There's your 4 teams and only 2 teams have to travel, prior to Chattanooga, and the round robin could be over a 3 day weekend. It would also provide those that say "what if the 2 best teams are from the same region" a way that those 2 could still meet in the final and everyone would not be playing each other potentially several times over the course of the tournament.
  20. Can someone explain what the schedule is for D II. I have been told something about the Chattanooga teams and the Mid-State teams being combined into some type of sectional and that only 4 teams will be advancing to Chattanooga. What's the scoop?
  21. Brentwood High - 6 Smyrna - 0
  22. My bad I thought it was the pre-season games at JP II
  23. Another excellent example is Ravenwood last year. They lost all 3 of their District 11 AAA regular season games and then beat Centennial rather easily in the district semi-final. They advanced all the way to the sectional game losing to an excellent Hendersonville team. It's a new season and they certainly will not be overlooked this year.
  24. Do you mean Irregardless IS not a word rather than IN not a word? Is "it is merely REGARDLESS" a complete sentence? I believe that it is a sentence fragment. How does a teacher come out in someone. Wouldn't it be correct to write that sentence "Sorry teacher coming out of me"? Sorry just the sarcastic jerk coming out of me.
  25. I don't think any of the teams that played in those games have results posted. They were pre-season scrimmage games anyway. Course it does give them an undefeated season doesn't it?
