  2. PHargis, I am not sure who you are referring to by saying, "You have just named a head VB coach that has been in the faculty there at LHS and was a Head Basketball Coach at Father Ryan in nashville for 3 years." The new volleyball coach is from Father Ryan, but has never been on the faculty at Lebanon High School. She was introduced yesterday to the players and will fill the vacancy in the PE department next year.
  3. I know this is a basketball board, but why would Lebanon not have a volleyball team. The administration might be "dragging their feet" or weighing their options or whatever, but I highly doubt they will not have a program. They have a basketball coach, now they will find who they need to fill the volleyball role, perhaps it has already been done. With several athletes still in spring sports their off-season workouts would involve five or six kids. Several of the girls are in some type of spring league, and are staying in shape in various other ways. I dare say that there will be no team. Now, back to basketball. Congratulations to Coach Johnson. May the new-found success of past powerhouse continue!
  4. Someone does not realize that even though VB cannot start practicing still July, off season work can still be held to hold attention. Is the asst coach in VB dong any off season work or is that taboo? PHargis, to answer your volleyball questions. The assistant coach (Piercey-Blanks) stepped down before the head coach stepped down. She told the team a month before the head coach announced she was not returning. So, the volleyball team does not have any coaches as of right now. I can assure you that if the former coaching staff were still around that off-season workouts would be happening right now. Rumor is Blanks will not be returning to Lebanon next year anyway. Maybe that is why she didn't feel the need to put her name in the hat for either position.
  5. What is the hold-up? If they are waiting for an answer this long, don't you think they would be looking elsewhere? This school is coming off the most exciting season in years in any sport (that is my opinion only, but I think several would agree) and the administration seems to be dragging their feet on this. Are they really waiting for an answer from Ms. Johnson or what?
  6. PHargis, I think it would be more appropriate to say that the new coach will need to "contnue" to communicate the way Brown and his staff communicated. I doubt you have any way of knowing this, but Brown and his staff (none of whom are alumni at LHS) communicated far better than the previous head coach. Brown was a very positive communicator as far as needing new facilities, but was content with using what was given to him and making the best of it. Brown and his staff were more worried about making the kids better than their surroundings. I heard him say many times, "we start with us, then we work on other issues." I think that philosophy was evident in the direction that he took the program in the two years he was there. I firmly believe that if you bring a positive thing into the limelight, you can't help but have positive repercussions in the future. I know you meant no harm by the comment because you have always been supportive of Brown and the Lebanon program's progress in your posts, but I didn't want anyone who doesn't know Brown or his staff to assume the wrong thing.
  7. Be careful, Bean. Assuming Bean is Coach Blanks or "Coach P", she doesn't want the job. Just ask her, she will be quick to tell you that. Anybody heard anything?
  8. I did understand the sarcasm, litebrown. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I know you guys were just talking about how much Brown has done for the program. I hope I didn't come off as rude, I was not in any way trying to be negative. I was full of so much pride in those kids, and that program, and that school when I wrote that post. It makes me smile just thinking about it. If you've been around for a while, you knew where the program came from, where it had gotten to a few years ago, and to get to this point this year is a huge accomplishment for the kids.
  9. For those of us that have sat and enjoyed the last two years of these 4 seniors careers, we say thanks and congratulations. You have turned into competitors and that confidence and drive will take you to places you never thought possible. As for the Dilligard v. Brown bantering...Brown has one possession she did not, their trust. They follow him, they did not follow her. It is hard to follow with no direction. It is no doubt the talent level was there, but no one should kid themseleves into believing she could have taken the same group and won twenty games with a sub-state appearance. TRUST. She preached it with words, not with actions. She knew X's and O's but she didn't know the kids. You want proof, ask them. Brown knew he had uncovered a treasure, and when he uncovered them, he stepped back and let them shine. Coach of the century, maybe not...Coach of the Devilettes, you better believe it.
  10. Please don't bring the refs into it. Lebanon and Lawrence Co. both played their guts out, and it is sad in this case to see a team have to go home. The refs made questionable calls for and against both teams, the biggest of which went AGAINST Lawrence County, and I am a Lebanon fan. (The hack call on 23 when she was attempting to take a charge and then got out of the way...where I was sitting, there was not even a touch, but the ref saw it different.) My point is, both teams played well, somebody had to win and somebody had to lose. Congrats to Lebanon on the win, congrats to LCHS for their effort and determination. Devilettes, you have what it takes...heart! You have proven that in this post-season. The Lebanon community is so proud of you. Keep it up!
  11. London only had four fouls. Not sure what the announcer said, I didn't hear him. I do think Burt and his staff would have picked up on that. He has people on top of that situation, I am sure. I think the LHS staff would have known it as well.
  12. Lebanon Devilettes. 03-04, 04-05, and 05-06 seasons had a combined total of 10 wins. Last year, the girls had ten wins at Christmas. Second year under head coach Darrian Brown and the girls are 18-12 and just won the district 7AAA championship Monday night beating White Co., Cookeville, and defending AAA state champs Riverdale for the championship. I would call that remarkable improvements. I can't speak for the other teams listed, but it sounds to me like those teams deserve recognition for their hard work as well.
  13. P, his name is Darian, sounds like Darren. I know it might have been a typo, but nothing wrong with giving him credit. Thanks for pointing out their hardwork. My understanding is that the regular season champ gets the seed they place in the district tournament if they place first, second, third or fourth. However, if they place lower in the district tournament, they automatically receive the fourth seed, and number four is bumped out. Someone correct me if I am wrong, please. That's how it was explained to me.
