  1. I just hope the game is decided by the players and coaches not the usual bone headed calls we usually see when we come to play in Betsy country!!!!! The Vikings were charged with OVER 100 yards in penalties in last years conference opener @ Elizabethton.
  2. I could tell by your previous post that you were an East fan. You guys would get more satisfaction in beating Tennessee High than you would if you won the Super Bowl. It’s really sort of comical!!! I have to agree with you thou when you say don’t count East out. I’m not sure were people are getting the idea that North is one of the top contenders in the MLC. I think East will squash that premonition this weekend. North will be one of the 3 conference games East will win this year.
  3. Virginia High won’t loose another game until the second round of the Virginia state playoffs. They have a good team. Their not very deep but they’re young and talented. Their quarterback throws the ball well but doesn’t make good decisions YET. I know a couple of the coaches there and that will change in time.
  4. There is no argument here that Maryville is a legit 4A school … you missed my point.
  5. I think I asked a legitimate question that has nothing to do with whom either team has played. I’ve heard many of the Cyclone fans come on and say that “this years team is better and more talented than the o4 team”. My question AGAIN to any of you is IN WHAT WAY???! I do agree that playing stronger competition will help you rise to that competitive level (that rings true in almost anything). I’m not sure I would schedule 3 of the toughest teams in the region right of the bat before your team has a chance to get their feet under them. At the end of the day it still comes down to WINS and LOSSES no matter how you try to rationalize it. Look at Maryville … they could easily be a top contender at the state level in the 5A division. But they choose to beat up on all us 4A schools year after year. Do you think they are worried about “playing tougher competition to make them better”? NO … they want that Gold ball year after year!! THAT’S the measuring stick!! I’m looking more at the human side of it. “This will only make you better” isn’t going to be a good enough excuse for your players IF they lose their third in a row. Do you think getting beat up early in the season last year prepared you to get beat up at the end of the season. I’M SORRY … I couldn’t resist. Good luck Friday … it will be an exciting game I’m sure.
  6. In what way do you feel this years Cyclone team is better than last year?
  7. I don’t see the Cyclones scoring 20 points. In two games they’ve barley scored half that. Do you think the Vikings defense is going to be any less of a challenge? You are right when you say “this isn’t as strong a team as the Vikings of 05”. But let me tell you … their O still possesses the potential to strike on any given play. One thing the Vikings didn’t loose in comparison to last years team is SPEED on both sides of the ball! They are stride for stride as fast as last year’s team if not faster!!! I just don’t see Elizabethton being able to keep up the pace. Jeffers is good … but we all know that and every opponent will be prepared to deal with him. Unless they come up with another weapon don’t expect to surprise or run up big scores on any of the ML teams. I see a hard fought game coming up (especially for the first quarter and a half). But the Vikings will catch their stride and pull away from the Cyclones. Vikings 24 Cyclones 13 What the Virginia High game did for the Vikings is give them confidence and momentum going into their first conference game. I would much rather be going into a big game being 1-0 as appose to 0-2 regardless of who my opponents were. What kind of reverse psychology is that?? These are kids … to them losing is losing!
  8. I’m not sure were you get your stat information but the Bristol paper had Science Hill passing for 92 yards and rushing for 221. And they didn’t hold DB to anything they didn’t want to be held to … believe that!! That game WAS a blowout!!!!
  9. The game went exactly how I expected. The line definitely improved as the game went on. Now whether it was them settling in, or the coaching staff getting in that @22 I don’t know! Johnson is a human highlight film!! Very exciting!!! Would of like to see the coaching staff open the book a little bit … but I guess it wasn’t necessary … YET. Virginia High has a good team and will do very well this season in their conference. As a matter of fact they probably won’t lose again until the playoffs. It’s just (like I said before); it’s a different level of play on this side of the City line.
  10. The joke is that with the absence of last years stud Tyron Mitchell (no doubt the best back Virginia High has seen in years) they think they are going to even be able to score on the Vikings! That’s the joke!!!! By the way Mitchell while rushing for over 1300 yards in a single season last year only managed to gain 16 of those against the Vikings. We play at a different level on this side of the City Divide.
  11. You are right in that if THS has shown a weakness it’s been the inexperience in the front line. But that WILL GET BETTER AND BETTER as the season goes on. I do however think you read too much into the scrimmage against Daniel Boone. In my opinion the Viking coaching staff has used their scrimmages this year to gauge their depth in different positions (just as any experienced coaching staff should during preseason). The Viking starters saw very little PT in the scrimmages this year. Even if the THS front line sputters a bit out of the blocks the Vikings should be alright in this one. Their many weapons and depth in the skilled positions should prove to be way more than the cross town Bearcats can handle. Blazer58 do you have a prediction?
  12. You are probably referring to the so called “preseason predictions” that also had the Cyclones picked over DB in a close one. We saw how much water that bucket held. Science Hill has a good team with a significantly better running attach than what you were up against last Friday. I’m afraid that after last weeks performance you will be hard pressed to find someone outside of Elizabethton that agrees with your predictions!! Good luck!
  13. Unless Virginia High is able to dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides, look for the Vikings to put up a repeat performance of last years dismantling of the Bearcats. Tennessee 31 Virginia 13
  14. Anybody that was at the Elizabethton vs. DB game knows that this isn’t going to be Betsy’s year!!!! Sorry Hilltoppers = 31 Elizabethton = 7 I hope we don’t have to hear the Cyclone fans yell upset week after week.
  15. Alright … Sigel won the game and for that I have to give you your props. But it definitely wasn’t the one sided game that you and all the clowns riding the wagon thought it would be!! Sigel had an overwhelming height advantage … which I must say was their only advantage over the Vikings!!! Almost half of #44 points came from the foul line (an almost perfect 8-9 from the strip with 18 points but NO DUNKS) and Jimmy (only 5-12 from the field and 0-3 from three point land) team total 47 points. One word need follow that statement … “DEFENSE” which is something you guys don’t normally encounter in your part of the state. The Vikings accomplished everything they set out to do except two important things … hit their shots and bring home the win. I have to add … JIMMY didn’t attempt to come out on DeSHAUD without help which proves two things … 1 he (and his coach) must have watched the Clinton film on THS (like I suggested) and he knew he was no match for DeShaud’s quickness and handles one-on-one, and 2 he’s not only a great ball player but he’s also a disciplined one! All and all I must say that you guys had a good team this year and will definitely be a top contender for the title NEXT year with the starters you have returning … but I was much more impressed with “THE NATION”. Unmatched school spirit and support for your team!!!!!!!!!!!! thumb Great run Vikings … WAY TO REPRESENT THE N.E.T. AREA!!!!! Two State appearances this year!!!!!!!!!!! What’s our Baseball team look like?!!
  16. What you better hope is that he takes heed and watches the film!
  17. Your boy Jimmy better lace up his shoes and tie them up REAL tight because even if Siegel manages to pull off the win he can count on loosing two things … his dignity and his ankles!!!!! His best bet in guarding THS’s point guard is to not let him get the ball. But WAIT … that’s what the TWO Clinton defenders tried to do and before the fat lady sang … they looked like two little kids chasing the Ice cream Truck down the street!!!! You don’t have to take my word for it … just watch the film.
  18. Come on SHTOPPER05 … stop pouting and climb aboard the VIKING ship!!! We’re all in the same family you know (Northeast TN) … we get no respect from the rest of the state! Even the “dominant” Hilltoppers will have trouble getting a decent state ranking next year after their showing this year. Just look at the strength ranking for THS now … we are now up to 35th out of the 8 teams that are left!
  19. Congratulations Cougars … WAY TO REPRESENT!!!!! I guess you can say I’m not what you would call a Central fan … but I got to give credit where credit is due!!! Truce?? SEE YA IN THE BORO!!!!!!! thumb Good luck
  20. I guess I gave the Dragons gunslinger offence too much credit … or was it that I didn’t give the Viking fortress D enough?!!! Either way … WAY TO REPRESENT VIKES!!!!!!!! WE GOIN TO THE BORO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way … smooth move by the guy in the Clinton student section with the JUG OF TEA!!! The 5-minute break in the action it took to clean up his spill was just what the doctor ordered for the Viking 5 to take it to the finish line in stride!!! That had a strange resemblance to the Toppers holding the ball the entire first overtime period in their LOSS to the Vikings in the regional championship game!!!
  21. The Dragons will be scratching their heads … dazed and confused at why they were barely able to reach double figures by the end of the first quarter! Defensive execution decides this game. THS – 58 CHS - 52
  22. Be careful what you say about these two teams from the East!!!! Defense is the name of the game for Science Hill and Tennessee High.
  23. They played that same relentless D last year and they finished 3rd in the District tournament despite tying for first place in the Conference with DB. The Vikings have been knocking on the door in the last two games. The first game the Hilltoppers were saved by a foul called by the referee with 1.7 seconds left, and the game tied. In the second game the Vikings committed twice as many turnovers in the last 2 minutes of the game than they scored points, and they were still able to carry the Hilltoppers into overtime. I think they get it right this time and win another District tournament title.
  24. THS won 49-35. What 1-AAA teams did the 1-A teams win against?
  25. STOKOMO I hate to hear that … and I hope that I didn’t say anything that contributed to your decision. If I did … I apologize. I have picked up a lot from your posts in the short time I’ve posted to coachT’s basketball threads. I’m new to the coaching side of AAU (3rd season), but I have two sons that have played in a summer AAU programs for several years ... so I know first hand the benefits. I’m serious about my AAU program and would love to continue to learn from your experience in a more civil arena. thumb 1tshelley@charter.net
