Common misconception. While a wing is present in both the wing-t and the georgia tech slot option offense........they are nothing alike. Coach Elrod's offense is more precisely called a Hybrid wing-t which features traditional wing t formations and plays, along with non traditional single wing type sets as well as many formations in order to gain leverage at key points of attack. It does feature the option, but only as a compliment. The Georgia tech offense is option based.......period. Both offenses do feature the basic FB trap and the rocket type quick pitch sweep..........but it ends there. The most funny thing to me is that Floridas offense is MUCH more similiar to wing t than any other offense including the spread. It is 80% single wing with a touch of spread passing.........but the pundits in our glorious football state are so tied up in the concept of "spread offense", they fail to see the forest for the trees.

You are correct, but this is so very typical of young coaches. They have A system, instead of working knowledge of many systems. Talent dictates style.......not the other way around. Although spread offense is the "taste of the week" as of late...........it certainly does not fit all situations and talent levels. Portland in the spread? Might be fine.....but thier is NOTHING worse than a bad spread team. He better be sure, otherwise........well..........repeat.

It is true that Coach Elrod is re-retiring. He is simply slowing down some and is a little ticked at the powers that be that run Wilson County Schools. Have fun taking it easy coach, you are one of the good ones!

I always find it amusing when a guy is winning, he is a "heck of a coach", but when he is losing, "he doenst know what he is doing".. The average fan doesnt have a clue. Portlands woes go MUCH further than the quality or lack therof the coach they hired.

I have not heard a remark reguarding ability of the coach. I dont think that is the issue here.......although that has yet to be seen. Portland is in a terrible situation in reguards to athletes, who they have to play, etc...... My point is, many did not apply simply because of the situation, so..............Portland hired who was available.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend. NO one in thier right mind, with any reputation or sense at all will apply. It is a stepping stone job at best, a graveyard for coaches at worst. Thats the way the general public makes it and evidently likes it, as it has been that way for years. Nothing in the near future is about to change. Macon will have 1 decent year surrounded by 10 bad ones. It is ashamed because as far as that level of football goes, Macon could be as successfull as Smith County, possibly a White House. But, the admin from the Central office on down is now and always has been stool pigeons for the politics of the town in general. It wont change until there is a mass death of the crumudeons that keep it that way. Sorry, but sometimes the truth....REALLY HURTS

Yes they do and you are correct.........all will go......WHAT? Problem is that coaches in the know understand the predicament that Portland is in. In is like many jobs, unreal expectations. The reality is Portland has great facilites, average athletes, poor pay, and is playing in probably the 2nd best district in the state. I wish the young man well.........he will need it.

Portland will soon be naming a new head coach........will be a surprise to everyone involved.

I would think your weight coach would be up for national coach of the year not to mention your team would win any powerlifting competition at any age level in the world. Just a pointer or two..........might want to check the depth on the squats..............really hard to believe a 595lb squater who benches 325 can only clean 215........................all those huge squat numbers and only 1 kid over 250 in the clean? HMMMMMM me thinks your stories need a little more work.

Wing T is adapted from the spinner series of the single wing. Simply taking a shotgun snap does not in fact mean that the spread running game is adapted from the single wing. In the single wing you have at least 2.....sometimes 3 different people taking snaps and making handoffs on a regular basis. This is not normally the case in the spread. The spread LIKE THE WING T, uses a true QB who make most........if not all of the hand offs and passes. Most spread running games have simply removed the wing-t fullback, and use the QB to run his holes and plays.

Tell you what champ..........you havnt played very many then and the ones you did were not very good. Do us all a favor and tell us where you played and what wing-t teams you stopped so readily?

Cleveland in the mid 90s won several state chamionships running the wing, they could have beaten any team in the state on any level. They were 4a then if memory serves me correctly. The Mongomery County School System would have to improve greatly to be considered Dysfunctional. Never have cared about football............nothing has changed............actually havnt cared about any sport.......but since basketball normally orbits around a few good players and baseball a few good pitchers...........football requires many more.....................both of the other sports have had more success on the state level. I'm not sure about "MBA in trouble", but I do know they are about to lose another coach still. What is the deal? Cannot the big bucks keep a coaching staff??? It seemed to work for the appointment of the Head Coach.
