  1. East well coached? Nlot since the 60's and the brief Bubba years when Pigue helped him.
  2. Antioch and Hillsboro will play for the district title.
  3. Maplewood will not be challenged in district play. Coaches Broome and Armstrong could make another deep playoff run.
  4. The current Hillwood zone is different from that of the Link era. Coach Spears had very little talent to work with. The only way Hillwood can succeed is if their enrollment allowed them to drop to a lower level. Good luck to the toppers.
  5. Does Antioch have a head coach yet?
  6. Heard Law's interview went well yesterday... They say "Once a cobra, always a cobra"
  7. Let's make this multiple choice. A. Anthony Law - possible return to place of previous success? went to semis last season at WC B. Bobby Baskin - good coach, hard-worker, could win with WC talent C. Richard Campbell - Has won everywhere he's been, does he want to be a head coach again? D. Dennis Moreno - deserves another chance as head coach, would bring much needed discipline and work ethic E. Ralph Thompson - turned Maplewood around, could he do the same for WC? Others? Opinions...
  8. Who will be the new head coach at Whites Creek? I say bring some Law and order back...
  9. Similar but different, if that makes any sense. Both have tradition. Both had their last good football season in 2009. HL is 1-29 since then and WC is 7-23. All sports have fallen off at WC except the current girls basketball team. HL is still good in boys basketball but not as dominant as they have been. All other sports at HL have suffered lately. WC and HL both have image problems athletically and school-wide. Both schools need a leader that the football players will respect and will fight for. If the right person is hired at WC, they could return to glory. If the new HL coach gets the proper support, HL can succeed in football. WC does play in a lower classification which could bring success earlier. HL has more positives in facilities, more boys to choose from, better feeder schools, and there really is no where to go but up.
  10. R. Campbell, B. Spears, D. Moreno, M. Clay and B. Wilson
  11. HL played Ravenwood in the 3rd round in 2006 after defeating Brentwood and Hendersonville in rounds 1 and 2 when Clay Myers was still principal.
  12. HL now will have a chance to return to respectability.
  13. Could the "shady" dealings that Arch mentioned have something to do with the delay in naming McGavock's coach? In my day, loyalty to fellow coaches was prioroty #1.
  14. Did I miss something? Who is McGavock's coach?
  15. Maplewood returns as much talent as anyone in the area. At 4A, they could contend for rings if the right person gets this job. Will Maplewood "sweep" into the next chapter of their history, stay "strong armed" defensively and play ball control, "Arr" it out with a surprise hire, see the return of "slickwilly", or return a seasoned vet like East?
  16. 1. Terry Anderson 2. Jerry Pigue 3. Bob Cummings 4. Hillsboro '03/'04 5. Stratford '92 6. Maplewood '75 7. John Henderson 8. E J Junior 9. Terry Hemontoler 10. Dorris Armstrong
  17. I think East Lit is the King of East Nashville. Beat Maplewood and Stratford!
  18. Congratulations to Hunters Lane. I thought this would be a great game to watch, and I was only partially right. MHS had no answer when HL took away the run, while HL was balanced offensively. They hit you wide, up the middle, and can throw it. Good to see some of my generation still at it, namely Elrod for HL and Armstrong for MHS. Stay on the sideline and out of the bleachers as long as you can.
  19. This game was a mismatch: In Coaching
  20. How well would private schools and rural schools fare if they were forced to deal with: *non-English speaking students that recently fell on your doorstop in mass? *children of severe poverty? *children with parents that do not value education? *children with life issues that force them to focus on survival as their top priority? I understand that parents' priority is their children; however, unless the majority of the population of an urban area (Nashville in this case) truly care about the big picture in a school system, that school system faces extraordinary obstacles. Those working in MNPS should be saluted. Moreover, they should be rewarded. Rewarded with a system that can overcome the obstacles they bravely face daily. Many have suggested remedies. I believe in "strength in numbers". If we all care, a solution can be found.
  21. Wrong. Hillsboro hired an excellent football coach. The only question lies in his dealing with politics and the lack of support he is sure to receive...like all of the other metro coaches.
  22. Swami, I do a lot more reading than posting on this site. Just like football, I am mostly a watcher not a doer anymore. I must say your posts on metro and the administration within are poignant, thoughtful, and accurate. Saddest aspect, it is fixable if the citizens would rebel rather than retreat. MNPS no longer reflects Nashville. Too many citizens have given up, moved to outlying counties, and decided to pay for private schools while still funding MNPS with their tax money. Thanks for your thoughts.
  23. The birds do the least with the most. (Post Fitz, that is) The fact that they have so much talent yet can't sustain success even vs inferior talent is testimony to the lack of coaching there. Acquiring talent is not coaching. That's called recruiting. Fitz left an ideal set up. Nearly fool proof. Nearly.
