  1. Hunter Lane 92 Antioch 49 Totally classless to call in the score just cause you got drilled
  2. Remember when he had the two brothers (both starters) who had to sit out the state championship game because of their religion, and they won anyway. Amazing. Shelton is a throwback. Discipline. Ultimate hustle. Unselfishness. Defense. TEAM - no stars. He reminds me of Temple's John Chaney. The sideline antics are aligned with him giving everything he has each game, just like he asks his players to do.
  3. Taylor - Flunked out Wilkerson - Injured Wooten - Suspended after being ejected last week, after returning to the team after throwing jersey in coach's face Can you say SOAP OPERA?
  4. Hillwood is winning for exactly one reason: best coached team I've seen. With size but very little athleticism, no shooters, no ball-handlers ... how does he do it? Gamble for coach of the year!
  5. Seems to me that Metro is blessed with an unusual abundance of quality young coaches. Bodenhamer of Maplewood, Reed of Overton, Simms of McGavock, Suwell of Hunters Lane, and Allen of Hillsboro. All of these guys can flat out coach. All are tough disciplinarians, dedicated, and relate well with their players. If they all stick with it, there could be some great ball played in Nashville for many years to come.
  6. That Stratford team had a great PG in Troy Murphy, who got hurt and didn't play in any of the tournament games. As you can tell by Stratford's struggles without Henry Harris, and Troy not playing, no PG leads to struggles, and MLK had Johnny Lee and compay were tough. All you people trying to criticize should know the facts. 22-1 ain't bad.
  7. I saw this kid play during Christmas, and I was much impressed. Also, he played well during the summer. Coach Winrow has done an excellent job of bringing this young man along. Both Eric and Winrow should be proud.
  8. Amen. Coach Reed is the total package. Great mind, hard-working, demanding yet caring, and a great English teacher to top it off.
  9. Stratford and Ryan in the finals. Should be a fun match-up to watch. Does anybody get more out of their talent than Coach Bontrager? He is a top notch coach and his boys will give Stratford all they want, especially at home. Why can Ryan play basketball on campus but not football???
  10. Jamie Graham was injured and will be out for "a while". Sophomore Robert Ellison filled in and did a nice job. MLK was just too relentless on defense, as usual with them.
  11. The schedule in the Tennessean was wrong. McGavock defeated Lighthouse Hunters Lane beat Pearl-Cohn Whites Creek over Manassas MLK tops Brainerd Semifinals: 5:30 Hunters Lane vs McGavock 8:30 MLK vs Whites Creek That last game could be entertaining. two hard-nosed old school defense-minded coaches. Doc Shelton may not be as old as Coach Nollner, but he is more "old school". These two guys are winners. Will be fun to watch them battle it out. As for the other semi-final, two young guys that seem to have mastered the key to coaching: making players play hard! HL and Mc both will get after you, and run you to death.
  12. Go Devils! Can't let little brother beat you.
  13. Overton overachieves through discipline and toughness. East Lit had more talent, but no coach, and Overton pummelled them by 41! Overton then defeated a tough Heritage squad easily. Kudos to Coach Romie Reed. He is a fine young coach who does things the right way. First time I've seen him coach. Very impressed.
  14. We will see about that next year when they move up with the big boys! The cupcakes are now off the menu. See how they fare against Antioch, Hunters Lane, McGavock, Overton, ... And while I'm on here, White House and Mr. Football Ricky Ladd will be kings of Orange Mound Friday night!
  15. hilltopper = Jerry Link If you had guts enough to discipline your team, demand dedication, and be a real Coach, you would have had a chance last night. Letting players rule you, the Coach, is an embarassment. Guess all those years of being a doormat, and getting the stuffing beat out of you, turned you into a coach with no control of your program, letting players skip practice when they want, and even curse you without penalty - you finally got what you deserved. So leave Dandy alone and blame yourself.
  16. Hillwood: plays in a very weak region, had not beaten a good team all season. As for the playoffs, Northwest and Stratford have some talent, but neither are well-coached. White House was the first team Hillwood faced with talent, discipline, and a great coaching staff. The end result was predictable. Hillwood's defense does have athletes, but their Def Cord is not very bright, has little experience, and was picked apart by a superior coach - Footsie! White House: let's not make too much fun of "city" schools, if not for R. Ladd's transferring from Hunters Lane last year, (and we all know the circumstances of that transfer, remember) White House would not still be playing. Ladd sets the tone for WH's success, and WH is very lucky to have him. By the way, if he wasn't a great back, would he even be at WHHS? (we know the answer to that one too)
  17. I'd take talent over discipline anyday????????????????????????????????????????? My goodness, how many people believe that way? What about integrity? I want a coach leading young men who is respected, honorable, moral, and who the players believe in. These are the true WINNERS!
  18. Never heard a player curse at Coach Porter, Link can't say the same. WH never allowed players attending another school to practice, can't say the same for Hwood. And WH don't let players miss practice when they want and still start at QB, Hwood sure can't say that either. HILLWOOD - TALENT: YES CLASS/DISCIPLINE: NO WAY
  19. This game will be won by who gets fewer penalties, both are out of control, no class, no discipline, but alot of mouth. Neither coach has any control. I'd hate to ref this one. Would be more flags flying than Veteran's Day Parade. Two classless teams who have played cupcake schedules. White House will demolish either one next week.
