  1. I suspect that Lipscomb will win due to turnovers and the Mitchell defensive lapses. Don't expect Mitchell to be throwing the ball around wildly and to gather a lot of interceptions. The coach has much better cont rol over Redman than over Torry last year. I will not be able to make the Lipscomb-Mitchell game (Thanksgiving commitments) but I will be at the finals in Murfreesboro. Hope to see you there and I always wish my fellow Huntingdonite McAdams good luck. Bet you the Lipscomb coaches are not taking Mitchell lightly by any means.
  2. Vandy, it is good to see you still on this board. We won't be coming to Lipscomb this week, of course, Mitchell took care of that. I know you are not responsible for the addled-brain comments made by some "bulldog" fellow and some of the others. If you have seen Mitchell (I saw them live in 2 games and on tape in 4 others), you know they will be tough. Their defense is not good but their offense is much better than last year's. They have more balance. The Dyersburg pass defense was woeful all season, and Malone (best high school receiver I've ever seen) lit us up for over 300 yards. He's got claws for hands and can get off the line really ell. I think their O line is better than last year's, which mainly pass blocked. Dyersburg completely shut down Gibson, their big running back, but couldn't stop the running game. Everyone (except a few Lipscomb fans on this site whom I really don't think are from Lipscomb) remembers last year's game which in which Lipscomb "pounded" Mitchell 20-18 after trailing most of the game. I think the game will be very close. Redman (QB) is no Torry, but he is a good thrower with excellent receivers and the team is more disciplined and less likely to do astonishing things. They do have a kicking game--not a good one--eXps and punts. Unlike the other Memphis teams, Mitchell has finally caught on. I wonder how many games the Memphis schools have lost over the past dozen years by not having FG and EXP kickers. Dyersburg beat Sheffield two weeks ago at Sheffield 23-18--3 TDs each, but we had a FG and all exps. Incidentally, Mitchell is a much better offensive team than Sheffield. Best of luck to both teams. And to all those Region 5 fans who are not from Lipscomb but try to share Lipscomb's success--reflected light is not nearly as bright as the real thing. To Galilee of Mitchell, good luck. Dyersburg and Mitchell have had a good relationship and you have acted with class. Can't say we'll miss playing you in the new classification, looking at all the underclassmen you are going to have back, but we've enjoyed it. r
  3. Mitchell has a very good football team--especially on offense. Their defense is not as good as Trezevant's and probably about equal to Sheffield's. Their TB (28) is a strong kid who can run through tackles. The TB isolation is their bread-and-butter. They aso have a very fast WB who runs counters and reverses. The passing game is so-so, and they definitely use the run to set up the pass. Their defense is basically a 4-3 with the LB's very close and very active, blitzing a lot. They will definitely "stack the box." Teams have scored quite few points on them this year. Unlike most Memphis teams, Mitchell does have a kicking game--both in punting and extra points. Their O line is very large and has been impressive. Several players go both ways. In the Haywood game, Mitchell made lots of early mistakes (penalties, drops) but Haywood made even more. The weather should be clear and cold and the field should be in good shape. The game may come down to turnovers in the cold, and who can generate a passing attack.

  5. Here are some preliminary stats from the Dyersburg-Sheffield game. SCROMG BU QIARTERS Sheffield
  6. Just want adamsmom, Choctaw73 and all the other DC fans, that you can no longer doubt the Dyersburg fan support. We we hoping for a DC win and a rematch at our place in 2nd round next week. As the Sheffield-DHS scores were announced throughout the game, there was cheering when DC led whcih was most of the 2nd half, even cries of "C'mon, Choctaws!" We wanted a rematch, an overflow crowd and no trip to Memphis for us next week. At one point tonight, all 4 Region 7 3-A teams led. Congratulations to Dyer County on a hard fought season with many injuries.
  7. The "mercy rule" only applies in the second half of games.
  8. Steve (I just have a lot of problem with all these avatars and fake names, wonder why everyone can't just use their own names and not wriite anything that they aren't happy to sign their real name to), I thank you for your sincere support of the Trojans and Choctaws, and I have to ask you how your Dad is doing. We were such good friends and I respect him so much. Didn't get to see him all season this year. Send me a private e-mail or call me if you don't want to discuss family on this format. I have watched several Lambuth games and am proud of the work B. A., Beau, and Rashad are doing. I think they are contributing and hope they will continue to stay at Lambuth and grow as football players and as men. I've watched Covington tapes this week and they are improved and will be a definite threat. I think Crockett is pretty beaten down and Choctaws should handle them. Dyersburg will definitely host Memphis Trezevant in the first round, and Dyer County will definitely travel to either Mitchell or Sheffield. I wish yiou the best. Augielio (Wallace Milam)
  9. As you may know, I keep the stats for DHs. I had Cashion with 147 yards on 20 carries, 102 in first half and 45 in second. I suspect that he may have been credited with rushing yards on screens, shovel passes, and some hitch passes, which are assigned to the QB. I had him with 63 yards on receptions, for a total of 210. Taylor had 193 yards on 20 carries, with 3 TDs. (Of course, all Cashion's yards go to advancing the bal for DC, which is what the game is all about.)
  10. Congratulations to both teams tonight--for their accomplishments and for the sportsmanship shown. Dyer County came back well and fought hard. Cashion had quite a night. Best wishes for your injured player (though it looked very serious). I want to compliment Dyer County for the hospitality in the pressbox and for the facilities. I think the Choctaws will probably beat Crockett County next week, and I wish you guys the best and a victory there. One sportcaster said tonight that Dyersurg and Dyer County were neighbors for 364 days each year, but hated each other on the day of the game. Heck, I couldn't even get through a full night of that. It was time to greet friends and check on acquaintances even before the game was over. I personally believe that competing on the gridiron these 8 years has made the two schools and communities respect each other more. I hope the rivalry can continue after the TSSAA gets finished with its latest round of madness.
  11. O.K. I got it now--"PHANTOM holding"--I could have Googled "fathom" quite a while there without finding an answer." A "fathom" is a six foot depth of water and I was trying to figure out how "fathom holding" could have applied to football and to this game since there had been no rain. My apologies--and I think it is obvious that DHS football is all we have in common.
  12. Couldn't care less who won the game, don't really care if the officials were all nephews of the Inman coaches--or if everyone present believed that Inman used 12 men throughout the game. I ONLY HAVE ONE QUESTION: WHAT IS THIS "FATHOM HOLDING"?
  13. Kirby scored 30 and Kingsbury scored 35.
  14. Unless the field is sloppy, Dyersburg should score 50.
  15. There has been no other coach in West Tennessee--in any sport--who was more respected by his players and his peers than Walter Kilzer. Other coaches had better material and better won-loss records, but none had a greater love of the game and a greater or deeper concern for his players. Walter Kilzer was a gentlemen of the old school, a man of honor and dignity, a breed of man and coach who is harder and harder to find--at a time when we need so many more Walter Kilzers in our communities and our world.
  16. If OC continues its apparent policy of no contact in practice, they will become the laughing stock of West Tennessee. Could that possibly account for them having more players out?
  17. As a person from Dyer County and one who hopes the Choctaws win it all, I have to say that tonight's game leaves a bad taste in the mouth of anyone who watched the game obvectively. The timeclock mess was inexcusable and was, in the end, the difference in the game. The 3 point shot by Pierce wasn't. The cameras show his foot was inside the arc when he shot. As for the foul discrepancy, remember that CPA played a passive 1-3-1 zone and Dyer County didn't try to penetrate very much, choosing to fire 3's, which do not draw many fouls. Dyer County plays an aggressive, pressuring man-to-man and is always looking for the takeaway. Their foul total in this game was about their average for the year. They usually had more fouls than their opponents during the regular season. Also the notion that this was the "worst shooting night of the season" for DC is absurd. Their final FG percentage was 43.3 which is near their FG average for the season. What DC fans need to learn from this is that the teams are good up here, CPA not nearly the most talented. Best keep an eye on Howard. Good luck to DC against Fulton in Round Two.
  18. Good grief! What a collection of "experts"! Several people analyzing the UC-Temple game WITHOUT HAVING SEEN IT--AND ADMITTING THAT. One person didn't know that high school courts are now the size of college courts; another thought the Temple coach outcoached UC because of his state tournament experience, when it was his first year to coach and his first state tournament game. Someone else figured that Temple challenged all the UC shooters' 3-point efforts and conceded the inside game. Someone else had predicted that UC would wear down Temple by playing all those 10 players who could start for...who was it? Any other team in West Tennessee? Most teams in Tennessee? Most teams in the SEC? In point of fact, from the first quarter on, Temple outscored UC and Temple's bench scored as many points as did UC's. Another person wrote the foul calls were so lopsided, with the officials favoring Temple, when the actual results were 17 fouls called on UC and 14 on Temple. Give some people a username, an avatar, and a keyboard and they become experts on everything Whether they witnessed it or not is beside the point.
  19. It's official, Counces--Jr and Sr.--are returning. Team will be told today What is the origin of the idea that Bowling was run out of town? He resigned ahd he never really wanted to come to Dyersburg--Union City was always his first choice, but Fishel had not given up that job when the DHS job came open. Some will remember that Bowling tried to back out of the job after he accepted it. Bowling compiled a 10-2 record at Dyersburg, probably the same number of wins and losses Dyersburg would have had under Counce. The team will have the advantage of having organization, discipline and order restored to the program. If the folks in Union City are happy, we in Dyersburg are beyond happy.
  20. I tried to send you an E-mail or personal message because I really think I know your family. My E-mail address is wmilam@cableone.net. If you will send me an E-mail, I will reply and we won't tie up this thread with things that others may not care about.
  21. Bayron, I can't imagine how you think Lipscomb's defense took Mitchell out of the game when Mitchell had 404 yards of offense--a few more than they had against us (Dyersburg). Our offense had 392 yards rushing against Mitchell--our highest total of the year. I was so astonished at the game and how it was played. As for the 12 men in the huddle on 2 consecutive plays, I saw it at the game, but to make sure, I checked the Lipscomb broadcast which my wife had taped for me. The Lipscomb announcers caught it and commented on it extensively. This, of course, doesn't mean that Lipscomb would not have scored from the 13 on the following plays. I am not commenting so much on the officials missing this as I am Lipscomb's making the same critical mistake two plays in a row. I would like to see some of the Lipscomb game tapes from the regular season. I thought you miss Elrod and the inside running game so much. How did Holt and Moneypenny manage to run inside against good teams? Any way I could borrow some of the regular season game tapes. As you know Coach McCadams and I are both from Huntingdon and I think he is a heckuva coach and his record supports that. What I admire most about him last night was his utter honesty with the press after the game. It is often difficult for coaches and fans to practice that.
  22. What did you expect out of the Mitchell coach? He nearly lost against Haywood the previous week, when Haywood played a 5-1-5 defense, with corners off 10 yards, safeties 12 and a centerfielder 15 yards deep--and all 5 backing up at the snap. It was into the second half before Cole got Torry to throw short passes in front of the corners and safeties. When we played Mitchell, Torry had some scrambling yards (126 in fact), but the 2 running backs totaled 36 yards and were not a factor. Mitchell certainly gashed Lipscomb between the tackles, but I think Mitchell is at its best when it gets into a spread, gives Torry the ball and the offense and lets him do his thing. Mitchell is not disciplined enough to drive the length of the field with running plays without making mistakes. As for the coaching, we (Dyersburg) rushed for 392 yards against Mitchell using the midline option, and had 9 runs of over 20 yards. We knew they could not/would not play assignment football. We lost to Mitchell 40-31 because we couldn't stop Torry. See my post on the Lipscomb-MItchell game to read my comments about how Memphis coaches squander some of the state's best talent--year after year. The unforgiveable failure by nearly all the Memphis teams to develop placekickers costs them in the playoffs every year--Melrose was 2 for 2 on 2-point conversions against Henry County, and Mitchell was 0-3 on 2 point conversions last night.
