  1. Ahhhhhhhh! The BBQ. I can smell it from here. Or is the Stovepipe I smell? I hope the BBQ. Will the hospitality room be as good at Houston as it is at the Cleveland Duals? Will "The King" make an appearance at the tournament? I heard he was still alive!
  2. Wouldn't it be good if we could rank kids from each area of the state. The west, middle, east and far east. No pun intended to Knoxville, but I figure you guys would like to be kept separate from Chattanooga. Then we could have a state ranking which included DI and DII together. That would make for some interesting conversation on this board. Always looking to create interest. Maybe Stovepipe could come in with the all-puke team. Ain't it great!
  3. Congratulations to Corey. What an outstanding individual he is. A credit to the Baylor institution. I think a big congratulations goes out to the Baylor coaching staff of Shaack and Morgan. Have these guys saved their best coaching for the end of their careers. Not that they at the end of their careers but I think they are tipping the scales of relative age.
  4. And I thought that Cleveland kept those trash cans by the mats for their guys to spit in! I had no idea so many wreslters hugged the can. Good to have you back Stovepipe. You do have insights to things we the common folk have no idea about.
  5. Buck, I honestly don't know the answer to that question. All I can do is report what I find. Maybe CBG can help us out here. There are good sources out there where you can find information about kids. Each conference has a web site, and themat.com is a great source of informationas is intermat, wrestling usa and others. That is where Hamm get his information and I suspect most of his information. A little research goes along way.
  6. Thanks Hamm for the information. I found some additional information on the eiwa wrestling site about the challenge matches. Will Simpson won Best of 3 versus Fernando Martinez. Likely that Coach Barbee will have Sprigg and Hollis wrestle again since they split 2 matches with Sprigg winning tonight. All other weights were decided after tonight's matches. Not sure when Benson and Wismann will be able to wrestle.
  7. Here are the results of the challenge matches, and they were great! UTC BLUE-GOLD RESULTS 125 Sean Cordell dec. Adam Rains, 6-5 133 Matt Keller dec. Josh Keefe, 8-3 141 Michael Keefe dec. Aaron Martin, 8-7 149 Wayne French dec. Joey Knox, 8-4 157 Jake Yost dec. Robert Buckhaults, 10-3 165 Daniel Peterson dec. Jeff Baker, 6-4 174 T.J. Zach Tramel, 4-2 http://p197.ezboard.com/fmoctalkfrm8 UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE AT CHATTANOOGA SPORTS INFORMATION OFFICE UTC’S JOE SEAY PLEASED WITH BLUE-GOLD WRESTLE-OFFS CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team opened up the 2005-06 schedule Friday night with its annual Blue-Gold wrestle-offs. Head Coach Joe Seay will use the intersquad matches to determine his team’s depth as the regular season approaches. “We will still adjust the lineup,” Seay said. “We wanted to try to get them out in front of a crowd. It was good for them to compete as we get ready to open up the season at the Appalachian Duals. Then we have two weeks to get ready to go to Albany, N.Y. “I was satisfied with what I saw tonight. I was not discouraged whatsoever.” The matches were close in the early going until T.J. Sayers and Nick Lorenzano registered the night’s only pins. Sayers won by fall over Sean McAleney at 174 pounds, and Lorenzano pinned newcomer Kevin Pecor at 197. Sean Cordell, a Cleveland, Tenn., native who transferred from West Virginia, started off the night with a 6-5 decision over Adam Rains at 125. Nebraska transfer Matt Keller got past two-time NCAA qualifier Josh Keefe at 131, 8-3. All-America Michael Keefe edged Aaron Martin, a Virginia transfer, 8-7 at 141 pounds. The wrestlers were set to go into overtime until it was determined that a scoring error had been made in Keefe’s favor. Soddy Daisy, Tenn., native Jake Yost scored a 10-3 victory over Robert Buckhaults at 157, and Daniel Peterson edged newcomer Jeff Baker 6-4 at 165. Lloyd Rogers posted a 17-6 major decision over newcomer Ben O’Neill at 184, and Israel Silva closed out the event with a 4-2 win over Zach Tramel at 285. Sayers’ pin came at 59 seconds of the second period, while Lorenzano’s recorded his pin 1:02 into the second period. “I knew we would have some very tight matches in the lower weights,” Seay said. “Some of our matches in the upper weights were a little lopsided, but we still had good, competitive matches.” The match was broadcast live around the world over the Internet on TakedownRadio.com. The Mocs open the 2005-06 season Nov. 12 at the Appalachian Duals.
  8. Dang that stinks. Thanks for the information CBG.
  9. Good post Pummelking. How long will Kyle be allowed to stay at the OTC? Is it indefinitely? What will he do when 2008 is up? Will he have a chance to go back to UTC and compete for them. It seems to me he should be able to. Kind of like the boys from BYU who take a few years off to go on mission trips and then come back to finish their eligibility. I hope he can come back home to compete for UTC.
  10. Dragon wasn't Tisdale at 112 last year? If I recall he was really tough.
  11. I think if you need help you might want to call Kyle James at the Olympic Training Center. We have been told he is in residence out there. I am sure he won't be hard to find. If you can't find his number you might want to contact Rabbitt. He should be able to give you an email address to Kyle. Maybe a few trips to the OTC will get that weight back down. Good luck and hope you get use to the altitude.
  12. Again congratulations to Kyle. Can anyone tell me how to go about getting tickets to the next olympics? If there is a reason to go I want to make sure I get there. Go Tennessee! But not the vols.
  13. Rabbitt, good to hear Kyle James is doing so well at the Olympic Training Center. Will you be joining him in Colorado Springs?
  14. Thanks for the information from inside the Army room. CBG, any info on how the bigger Simpson did in his challenge matches? Question to CBG, what happened to Phillip Simpson? Where is he now? Have they assigned him to a unit yet? Maybe you can check in with the King and Queen at Kroger.
  15. Congratulations to Spencer, I know the McCallie coaches must be proud of their former wrestler making the team at Navy. Plus, wrestling for one of the best wrestling coaches in the country. Sure makes our side of the state look good! My only wish is that he could have wrestled at UTC.
  16. Bucklateral, Good post. Since you have the connection to the inside of Army wrestling could you give us any inside information as to what is going on inside the room now. I am willing to bet that the challenge matches have already started at West Point so the coaches can identify the top 2 kids at each weight, and have them compete in the final challenge match this Saturday. This is generally what goes on at most colleges and I know it is what happens Appalachian State. If challenges have already started can we find out what has already happened?
  17. Rodney Cash has to be one of the top young coaches in the State. He had the top middle school program in middle tennessee and they the kids all went to Franklin, and we all know how good Franklin is now. I hear he is at Brentwood Academy now. That is good news for DII. They need some good coaches in that league. With his leadership BA will be a team to beat in that area soon enough.
  18. "In the halls of Father Ryan" Do those boys ever go to class? Irishdad, can we get a conformation of the going on in the halls of Father Ryan! You would think that Father Ryan would at least offer a Time management class for clock keeping.
  19. Where did Coach Masters go? I didn't know he had left Kenwood? Did he leave the state? I can't believe he left Kenwood after building them into a state power.
  20. I know Ben has been working hard all summer and we suspect he will have an outstanding year. With la little luck on his side he might win it all!
  21. With ND and Knox Cath coming over to DI, does this mean none of the kids on their teams will be on any scholarship at all?
  22. CBG, you guys are too much. Take this fruad junk over to TWF where it belongs. As far as the King and Queen goes, do you shop very often at Krogers?
  23. SBA, Have you been elected to a recent job in Memphis. Something like the West Tennessee Wrestling Coaches Association Spokesman. You have an opinion on everything from who does what to how good someone is on every team from the left side. It would seems to me that CBHS Coach can answer for himself. I believe he has enough intelligence to do that. If you are the spokesman for him, please advise us all.
  24. Sorry Papabear, bad rumor. How will your team be this year?
  25. Houston Coach, looks like a great line-up for your tournament. How in the world did you guys get Brother Martin to come to your tournament. I heard they were not going to open back up this year, but re-open next fall. Are their kids in school? If so, where? Sounds like you guys are going to have a real tough tournament. Good luck. CBHS Coach, did you guys get any Brother Martin transfers? I heard you guys got 3 kids from there. Just wondering who they will wrestle for that weekend, Brother Martin or CBHS?
