Unbelievable. If you had bothered to read the post, I was replying to compuman, who most certainly did attack these young men without knowing any of the facts. I intend to find out why one of them quit this weekend. I did not imply the team was imploding. I asked what was going on. If it is imploding, my son is going down with it. I also never implied one was a "top player". I said he was fast with upside potential. Step away from the keyboard, settle down, learn to read and get the facts before posting, please.

Good decision making doesn't magically appear on your high school graduation. Some have it early and some never have it. To say the parents, many who have their own inner needs and motivations, always know best is just plain silly. I won't presume to label a child without knowing the motivations behind their decisions. I was just asking if anyone knew the motivations of the two players, who I thought had huge upside potential, in quitting the team and they were attacked. What the H$%#? High caliber people in their field, whatever that may be, quit things for thousands of reasons. Again, I will NOT presume to label them without knowing the facts.

You admit that you don't know the kid and obviously don't know why he quit. Why would you resort to childishly calling names without this information? Could it be you are afraid it may have something to do with the coaches. OH NO, can't be. I don't have this information either, but hope to this weekend. I do know who the kid is and he is no wimp and you definitely wouldn't have the guts to say what you did to his face. By the way, aren't you related to someone who recently quit TWO teams? Maybe you could give us a few thousand words explaining why he isn't as you describe above.

I just read through the whole Board Rules. Nowhere does it say you have to be full time optimistic, unrealistic and/or completely blind or get kicked. The one I spoke of, I KNOW had the fastest time in the 40 when the track coach (Hilton, I believe) timed them in June. Now if someone was missing that day and can beat this kids time, I'll edit my post and put an (a) before top. As was posted above there have been a number leave and not a one that I know of was weak-hearted, selfish or untalented. If you can't give a real answer why, butt out.

One family 3/4 of a mile down Kendricks request annexation. The city is annexing Kendricks Rd. only, no properties, to get to this home. They will grab up the hundreds of homes they bypassed soon. That's how they roll. Colonial Hts. is soon to be no more. How's Phillip's Heights grab ya.

Saw a Times News letter to the editor about the lack of a coach at Central. Anybody know anything about this? Thought they had one, but have heard a South coach may be heading that way???????????

Extremely disappointed I couldn't get to Betsytown. How was the playcalling? Pass/run? I know they took it to South last year and both had pretty good seasons.

I heard they didn't practice Monday because of the field conditions. Coach Weston is not back. Maybe that is not a surprise...I want to see who emerges as the back-up QB, who fills in the O-line with Solt and Hyder and who our two new coaches will be . Any ideas or thoughts on these anyone? Weston not back...Dad sick? T Nelson not playing...too bad. Jordan calling plays?....too bad. Rogers and Weaver waiting on Heath. Rowe is there...fire em up Rowe!

Heck yeah I'll be there. Love Fri. Nights. I try to get them 50 yd. reserve seats. My Conf. Flag shirt, a mouthfull of chew, a few PBRs in the truck. Be there or be square. At DB, SH, Boone and the 2nd round, I'll be the one yelling I told ya so.

Well, a few South observations. 1. They are banning the flag. Never did really like the flag at ballgames, but hearing how it was handled, it looks better and better. 2. If Carter had stuck it out, he could have been the first head coach of Kingsport Obama High School. 3. Predicting not much changes for South football. Poor planning, great execution, unimaginative play calling, same 11 kids playing both ways, failure to adapt -------> stinkin up the important games.

And then you will have a nice debate from citizens wanting both of the schools to have extremely similar athletic facilities...which means the citizens around Sullivan South will have a good argument for wanting some better facilities....and as bad as the field gets down in Death Valley.......hintidy hint hint hint. A little mud is cool, soothing and they claim it's great for wrinkles.

No doubt CH Optimist was and is rife with daddy ball and the concerns of the Fordtown people were legitimate. Time and again I watched players with huge potential sit without even sniffing the field. That being said, the CH Chargers helped build South's success as of late. In fact, they were a HUGE part of South's success. This new travel league, at first glance, seems to be a slap in the face of those who helped shape the young men we read about on Saturday mornings. The travel league website lists most of the area coaches as sponsors or something(?) including Stacey Carter. If not for the CH Chargers, I don't believe Carter or Haynie for that matter, would have been given their fancy new positions. Here's hoping the CH Chargers continue to be as strong as ever, continue to send athletes up the line ready to compete and that their coaches get the thanks they deserve.

The city can kiss my glutemous. (sp?) Allow a vote or be gone. If they care about providing services to all us disadvantaged county people, they would have "helped" bloomingdale decades ago.

How did the Valley look at the track meet at D-B yesterday? DB, as always a beast on the track. But South has speed and jumps. Pickwell goes 6'8 which is 2" better than state top jump last year. Watterson goes 15.3 in the 110 which is way ahead of the first of last year. Lots of footballers, even linemen are running. Even the 4x100, mostly sophs, is right with DB, but DB fell on last pass. South won in 45.9. Distance runners get personal bests almost every run. south in top three in most mens events. Maybe not as many ladies running as in past but good performance by many. And they look like they are having fun. The big blob of columbia blue in the infield is really pretty too. South had to easily come in second in the 6 school meet.

Thanks.....yeah, I guess we're lucky up here that there are only 2 6As in the district. Imagine if you had 5 or 6 in your district? Looks like they quick fixed the playoff system but didn't have enough time to fix the districts to go with it. Once all this sinks in theres going to be all kinds of fussing and attempted schedule changing. South could try to trade out Greenville and West for Blountville and Indian Springs Middle Schools.

For us lay folk...Could you break this down a little. Say DB and SH are the top 2 (Which on paper they should always be). Could there be no 5A teams in the playoffs from their district? For instance, say Boone goes 6-4 and is top 5A in their district. The 5As have beat each other up. They don't go to playoffs because other 5As in other districts have 7-3 records even though most of those wins were against 4As????????? Make me understand.

It is too bad there is not more interest in track and field. Theres more participation, at least around here, than just about any other sport. And its pure sport. Just young men and women against the clock or the tape measure. Anyhow.....The Tenn. Runner site is a great resource for info you seek. Theres some sort of ranking thing, but it costs money to look. Some meets post results and some don't, but looks like last year, a Junior from White Station won state with 14.56. A 15.0 comes in 4th. There were 4 Seniors and 4 Juniors top 8 last year. Can't wait for the season....Thurs. @ DB. Hope to be there.
