  1. I am sorry to hear about this. While I agree it doesn't warrant poor behavior, I empathize with them in that situation. Hope all is well, and congrats to them on winning with heavy hearts!
  2. Congratulations to both teams on great seasons and congratulations to Baylor on winning the championship. I was at the game, and it was surely a nail biter. I was impressed by many things in the game, some being: -Ensworth's face-off guy, number 2 Chaberski. He has the ability to pull the ball out quicker than any other F/O I have seen. He wasn't facing just any opponent either, as numbers 33 and 35 for Baylor are good face-off men. -Wicks for Baylor was very impressive with both hands and put the icing on the cake towards the end. -19 for Ensworth (Baker) impressed me alot as well. He started out slow (less than impressive defense and 2 crossbars in first half) but ended up burying a goal man-up and later clearing the ball, trucking through a defender, and scoring the game tying goal to make it 6-6 all over the course of 20 seconds. -Number 11 for Baylor, not sure of his name, was very impressive. I don't know his stats for the game but I do know that he drew much attention from the Ensworth defense, creating openings for other players. -Number 23 for Ensworth had two very nice goals coming around the crease. -Both teams appear to be very well coached and show promising futures. -With all that being said, I was a tad bit disappointed in the sportsmanship exhibited by Baylor. There were several unsportsmanlike calls, as well as many "f-words" screamed loud enough that the crowd could hear it. The one that got me the most was when defenseman number 4 for Baylor flipped off the referee to show his disgust with a call made. The refs didn't see it but myself and the ones sitting around me in the stands saw it. The game is not for sissies and I have no problem with foul language but to make it loud enough that the crowd can hear and SEE was a little much. Anyway, congrats to Baylor on a fantastic season.
  3. 1. I didn't say recruit. You said "it seems like only the athletes come from all over." And i cleared up that it isn't just the athletes. Read a little closer. 2. Bringing up Bowers kids was most certainly a smart*** answer, but if you noticed, it implied that no football players (besides his own kids) live with him, thus clearing up that rumor. 3. That was more directed to the general public that believes half the football team was brought from Africa on the U.S.S. Ricky. 4. MBA offers Latin because a substantial number of people speak it? Where do you live? 5. FYI, colleges only calculate GPA based on the core classes. (History, English, Math, Science.) So EHS does not calculate Dance for Athletes into final GPA either. You don't know enough to speak on that matter, as with most of these. 6. Nothing about your post was factual. It was a repeat of rumors, whether they reflect your personal opinion or not. I don't wear orange or red glasses. I have ties with both schools, but I am sorry that you thought I was coming at you from an Ensworth perspective. 7. Good! I'm glad I could make you laugh! 8. Ahh, and you say I am the one feeling personally attacked. Seems like you wrote number 8 right as the tears streamed down your cheek. And Ensworth is a great school. That is not arguable. It has gotten kids into great colleges. And yes, Ensworth has no college grads. But is that what makes a school great? Seeing how many become doctors, lawyers, etc.? No, its education at the high school level, and college prep. Seeing where kids go to college is enough proof, if you have a hard time believing that its a great school already. I think its about time for you to go to bed. Sweet dreams, oldgoldandorange91...
  4. Probably because EHS is not an all boys school. I have some qualms about the diverse hometowns of the EHS athletes. Knowing many of the EHS people, it seems like only the athletes come from all over to the school. But a common complaint heard from MBA is that EHS operates like many colleges, and while this may sound harmless, we must bear in mind that neither EHS, nor MBA, nor any other school in the division or the country actually is a college. It seems, at the very least to MBA fans, that EHS has become a school centered around sports, fueled by rumors (I dont know if they're true) that one or more of the players lives with Bowers, one of them had to sit out last season because he couldnt read, and other University of Alabama-esque complaints. This goes along with some of the classes offered that actually count towards a student's cumulative GPA, such as Sign Language and Dancing for Athletes(yes it's an actual class). Such classes bring to memory several years ago when the Georgia basketball coach had a class for basketball players with tests that had questions such as: how many halves are in a basketball game, how many points are awarded for a three pointer, and how many players can be on the court for a team at one time. It seems to many that EHS is a high school treating their sports teams in a collegiate manner, and whether one believes it or not, such a program would not be acceptable at the high school level. You reek of ignorance. I can name over 50 kids that drive 30+ minutes to school and don't play a single sport. And if they do, they aren't the ones getting playing time. And you are right, a player does live with Bowers, and a former player does as well. Their names are Richard and Andrew Bowers, and they are his sons. To think that Bowers houses all the recruits in his slave quarters on his plantation is laughable. As for the courses offered: Every school offers courses that interest a variety of people. Sign Language is a language. Do you find it crazy that MBA offers Spanish, Latin, etc.? And Dance for Athletes--Same idea. But NOOOO I am sure that MBA only offers AP Calculus BC and saves no room for enrichment classes. Actually they do. I checked their website. Would you put "Speech", or "Choir" or "Jazz Band" in the same category as "Dance for Athletes"? They are both arts, just different forms. If you think any of those are cupcake courses you are wrong. Dance for Athletes has written papers, tests on the history of dance, etc. It is a dance course, and the reason "athletes" is tagged on to the end is because it starts at a very novice level, assuming that the majority of athletes have not taken a dance class before. It is sad that you have to make posts like you did because you can't fathom that Ensworth is beating your team in nearly every sport. Grow up. Ensworth is a great school. MBA is a great school. Both have strengths, both have weaknesses. Figure that out, and open your mind a little.
  5. "Way out of line" would be an understatement. Ensworth strives to be diverse, and its not just the sports teams that you will find African-Americans. In the bands, choirs, plays, math team, clubs, etc.
  6. Normally I would say Brunetti, but he shares yards and td's with Keith McBride. As for Huesman, I haven't seen him play. Seeing Darkwa play a few times, I have to go with him as my choice. But having it go to Brunetti or Huesman would be good choices as well. Can't go wrong with this years Mr. Football, but from what I have seen, Darkwa carries his team and changes the pace of every game he plays.
  7. hdcastle, your post clearly displays that you know very little about this game or these two teams. Not only did I laugh reading it, but I got a little angry as well. It was a direct shot at MBA, and it wasn't supported by anything valid. MBA wants this game. Ensworth wants this game. Anyone associated with these teams who doesn't want this game should be filling up gatorade bottles and filming practice.
  8. a little hasty, eh? just like the MBA that played BGA was different the second time around, so it will be in this rematch. MBA completely redesigned its defense since last time, and they are playing quite well. Thinking back to the first game, one thing that, to me at least, was conspicuous was EHS's mediocre defense, MBA's QB, a team leader and brother to the other 80 guys, broke his neck and they still put up 29 on EHS. True, EHS has very potent offense, and Darkwa had his way in the first game, but so did BGA's Moore at MBA's homecoming. I know, Darkwa is probably better than Moore, but the change in yardage (285-55) is conspicuous. I think this will be an incredible game with an absurd amount of emotion. I dont know who will win this one Actually they put 21 up on EHS. But that is just me being picky, 21 points still supports your point. You make some other very valid points as well. I wouldn't call EHS' defense mediocre, but they aren't as top notch as the offense, thats for sure. And yes, MBA is clearly a different team. But Ensworth is the same team, and that team is the second best in the state. EHS will win this one by at least 10.
  9. Ensworth is certainly not completely healthy. Darkwa's shoulder won't get any worse but won't get any better playing on it. He will be hampered by that the entire season. I still go with Ensworth in this one. EHS-42 FRHS-21
  10. VandyHoosiers, you have made it clear that you don't respect a kid's privacy, nor are you open-minded enough to admit a school has more than football. But to go that low, I don't even know what to say. Your posts display that you don't know enough inside information to say anything at all. Keep it to yourself. GreyGhost, add my house to that wager. Well said, nice post.
  11. I have a friend whose son knows Darkwa well. I usually hate to talk about the personal side of things, seeing as this is a football board, but Orleans holds above a 3.0 at a challenging private school. His grades will not affect his getting offers, as we have already seen with the offer from Army. (Wrangler615 said Navy, it is Army though). He can hang academically anywhere, as hard as he works in the classroom. I think its only a matter of time before he gets offers from UAB, Bama, Clemson, and Vandy. Maybe even Tennessee.
  12. Any idea as to how many yards Darkwa had?
  13. This should be a good one. Ensworth has never beaten BA as I recall. However, I just don't see anyway BA can contain Darkwa. I have to favor Ensworth in this one, assuming they can slow down BA's speedy backfield. EHS-27 BA-21 Can't wait to see this one, that's for sure.
  14. And God forbid letting a less fortunate kid get the opportunity to work hard and persevere in the same environment as the wealthier kids.
  15. The term "recruiting" does not apply just to athletics. I know for a fact that most private schools in the area have gone to areas outside of say, Belle Meade, and tried to get kids to come to their school. Is this for athletics? Sometimes, yes. Always, no. There are kids at MBA, Ensworth, BA, BGA, etc. that are from a completely different background than the majority, and are not athletic jewels. Its a shame that we get caught up in criticizing these scholarships because some of these kids are athletic. Like KWoodroof said, these kids are getting a better education than they normally would. That is something far greater than a scoreboard at the end of the night. Let it rest. P.S. I actually haven't had my nap, so if its reflected in my writing, my apologies in advance.
  16. Couldn't have said it better myself. Props for that one, KWoodroof.
  17. Not an impressive display by MBA. Whoever said Darkwa would have a field day was right, he looked very impressive. My prayers go out to Luke Colbert, I wish he and his family the best. Wish I could post more but I am a little on the tired side.
  18. Last year Riegle didnt want to touch Orleans, so what makes you think he will want any more of him when he is bigger and faster now. Plus im pretty sure if mapplewood tore up MBA on the ground, Orleans could have a field day. They need to have fitz or barns to spy him instead of reigle to slow him down Last year riegle was a sophomore, and anyone watching the maplewood wouldnt say that he didnt want to hit, and Van Leer is better than orleans, especially against MBAs crew Van Leer is good, but lacks size. He is quick as lightning, but I think Orleans is a better overall back. And I can't even understand what you are trying to say in the rest of your post. Also, while Orleans may not have a "field day"(as put by WalkIT), he will still put up some numbers against MBA. (That point directed to Gentle3000).
  19. I believe we know where WalkIT goes to school.
  20. Ahh, I retract my words. I read KWoodroof's reply, and realized you were actually curious about that. I interpreted it as you just being a smart ####. My bad.
  21. I am no expert, but one would expect that they(EHS) are fairly confident going into the game, considering they won last year. I may be misunderstanding what you are saying, but if you are implying that the reason they are being quiet this year is because they are scared of losing, I would direct you to the box score of the Oakland game. It appears the Tigers aren't a cupcake team this year. I doubt they are worried. Then again, MBA is no cupcake either, which is why I am so excited for this game. Keep it to football, with less attacks on personal and school matters.
  22. As an enthusiastic high school football fan, I have read these boards for quite some time. I figured it was time to actually be able to comment, so here goes. As a neutral (in this particular game) fan who has seen both teams play this year, I want to point out some things I have noticed about both teams. MBA -Decent size, good speed, loads of power running coming from Lassing(In my opinion changed the pace of the Maplewood game.) -Decent passing game. When I say decent, I mean decent. Tanner #4 appears to be a heck of a wide receiver, and Colbert has a good arm, but Colbert is very indecisive in the pocket. I saw him get sacked on a few occasions, one being a two point conversion attempt, in which he could have thrown the ball much earlier, or atleast gotten it away to avoid the sack. With the right amount of pressure, you take Colbert out of the game. Another thing I noticed is mostly hitch routes and screen passes. These have worked well, but I would expect that Bowers knows where these passes are going. Ensworth -Good Size in the trenches, especially with #74. He is a monster. I would put my money on Fitz Lassing running through most nose guards in TN, but Richardson is not one of them. -Decent Speed. The running game is the most important aspect of Ensworth's game. Darkwa hits the hole fast, and drives his feet till usually about 3-4 guys can manage to slow him down. -Decent passing game. I could almost copy/paste what I said about Colbert/MBA's passing and put it about Tollison/EHS passing game. I have seen Tollison hold the ball too long, make bad decisions, and lack vision through the middle of the field. Also, I do not believe Ensworth has a standout receiver that MBA has in Tanner. So, for my Final Verdict: MBA is forced to pass, Colbert has too much size coming at him to get the ball off. Ensworth stays with the run, and one of the best running backs in the state puts up numbers similar to last years meeting. It will be close, too very similar teams, but Ricky Bowers seems to control the game better than anyone. I go with Ensworth in this one. EHS-26 MBA-19
