  1. Again, your opinion versus mine on whether they would make it or not. Unless you have forgotten, SP is in 1A and would not have been in the classification as Brentwood Academy or MUS. Keep living in the past. With the watered down classifications, lets see if the Warriors can do the same thing and then we can revisit this conversation.
  2. Come on D60, quit giving compliments......and you need to give the Jasperites a decoder....LOL.
  3. So I guess the last 7-8 years, SP has had just average teams because they made it to the state game several times? That is another laughable statement from someone that never played football. I can guarantee you that SP has played some quality 1A teams in those playoff runs....better than what the Warriors will see this year. If you play Trousdale County, it definitely won't be the beast of a team the Pirates have seen in the past. They have a great coach and their team will play hard though. I agree it has been watered down, but the teams that have made it to the State were good teams and would have had a good chance of making it to the state in the old system. I am sure Jasper is just glad they don't have Alcoa waiting on them later in the playoffs.
  4. This Pirate team has played hard every game I have been to this year, however they have also made some mistakes at key times on both sides of the ball that have contributed to a loss. There is not much room for error as this is not a talent laden team as in years past. They must make every play count and try and eliminate mistakes to advance in the playoffs. As a fan, it is hard to understand why two players mentioned are not being utilized some as they both have shown they can make plays. They could be used to give the starters a breather with the potential of taking it to the house on any given play. I just see it as a win/win situation but then again I am not the coach. I can remember 2001 when the Pirates did not have a very good regular season but ended up advancing to the 4th round of the playoffs with a team that was not full of talent. Football is a team sport so if these boys will play together they can make a good run in the playoffs this year. It is a new season and they just need to start fresh with Clay County.
  5. PP68, tell me one good team they have played all year? You look good against inferior talent which they have played all year. Zemen is a good runningback no doubt but take him off this team and they become very average at best. I am well versed in football but I don't need you or anyone else from Jasper to tell me whether I know football or not.
  6. Just my opinion TTP, but we can see that you don't like it for sure. I saw nothing that impressd me that much about Jasper the other night. They played a team that is not very good in SP. Punishment?? That is laughable. Jasper has not played a good team all year.....the only one they played with some athletes beat them. 1A and 2A are weak this year so Jasper has a good chance of making it to State but those West teams have stepped it up a notch since the 90s.
  7. Jasper is the Zemen show and will run into a team in the playoffs that can stop him. I think Trousdale will be that team.
  8. No matter what you say mayor, TTP will spin it to fit his agenda. He is crowing loud this year because most anybody with any sense knows Jasper has the upperhand. I am not going to hide my distaste and dislike of Jasper High School. It literally makes me sick to see that Purple and White and I enjoy every time they lose especially if the Pirates are the team winning over them.....from Pee Wee to High School. Call me what you want, but I am being truthful where others will just not come out and say it. Jasper will get their first win in this rivalry tonight in several years and the rivalry should be more competitive going forward. All I have to say is that a blind squirrel can find a nut every 8 years or so.
  9. Stopped in Jasper yesterday and there are alot of confident fans wearing purple that think this game will be a blowout. I am sure the visitor's side will be packed since the Jasperites think this is their year and it just might be. Both teams are undefeated in the district so this is for the championship on top of the heated rivalry. Early season I felt the Pirates would be a much improved team by this game but they have just not come together. I still see talent on the Pirate team but some of it has been standing on the sidelines most of the year. Even with them playing tonight, I don't see the Pirates winning as Jasper has a good nucleus of players a good coach at the reigns. My initial thoughts is this will be a mercy rule game, but I am hopeful that the Pirates will come out scrapping tonight and put together their best game of the year and keep it close.
  10. UncleDave can remember the days when a win against Whitwell was not a given. This year's Pirate team needs to come into this game focused and ready to play ball. Once thing I do like about this team is that there is no quit in them....they will fight you for 4 quarters. However, they do need to work hard at improving the little things. Missed blocks, missed tackles and dropped passes ended any chance they had of beating Sequatchie Co. If they don't improve on those things, they could lose a very needed district game Friday night. This team has some talent, but I don't know if it is all being utilized to the fullest. A couple of talented young kids are spending alot of time on the sideline when they should be used in the Pirate offensive attack...just my opinion. Hopefully that will be seen by someone else.
  11. I am willing to be patient as the Pirates have some new faces starting. HIXSON is a 4A team.....Bell Co was a 3A team and both were good. No shame in losing to them and the Pirates never quit. These two games were expected to be tough and I have faith that the coaches will get full potential out of this team. The Pirates can win the rest of the games this season so encourage them and show your support.
  12. UncleDave is excited to see the start of the Pirate season this year. This is a big test early as Bell County looks to be a solid team. Pirates will have to play hard, get some breaks, and protect the football to pull this one out tonight. For the Pirates to win, Grider will have to throw to keep the defense honest. Looking forward to seeing the new wrinkles in the offense. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, there will be some growing pains with some new faces playing big roles this year. Coach Moore will have them ready to play and I know the boys are ready to hit somebody!
  13. Sorry to hear that, hopefully he will be at 100% earlier than expected.
  14. Is the post season ban only for the baseball team? I am sure it is but just wondered.
  15. Cody would have been the next D1 runningback from SP to go somewhere. The kid had legit talent that would have caught the attention of alot of college teams.
  16. Honestly, if these young men on the 2014 team work hard in the off season and in practice, they might surprise a few people. Early season games against good opponents may be tough to win just because of all the new faces, but I think by season's end the Pirates may make a statement again.
  17. The QB this year, Kit Grider, transferred from NJ. It is in the Alabama County that borders Marion County. Anyway, they had a coaching change and then the coach that was hired quit the job so instead of waiting for the trainwreck that was coming, he transferred. Bottomline again, haters continue to come out of the wood works talking about something they know nothing about. I played football and graduated at SP with the dad of the Mitchell boys that were seniors this year so that one is hilarious.
  18. I for one want to tell this 2013 Pirate football team how proud I am of them. Yeah, they did not win the ultimate goal but they had a very successful season. You can't win all the time...in sports and in life, so losing is something we all have to face. Be proud of the accomplishments of this team and seniors who were a part of 3 teams that reached the state game. The seniors will be missed and now the underclassmen must step up and get ready for next year.
  19. This is going to be a very young team in some regards since the Pirates will be replacing the OL, DL, and two good runningbacks. How the line matures will determine how this team will pan out next year as SP won't have much size/bulk on the line next year. Another key element to me will be developing a passing attack along with the run game. Having a more diverse offense will keep defenses guessing to a point where they can't key on just one thing. This will be a changing of the guard so to speak for the Pirates as the seniors leaving have played alot of football and the underclassmen will be asked to step up and fill their shoes.
  20. Might as well but we don't need transfers to have a good football team.
  21. And it proves my point, you still have to beat SP to win the Gold. Who do you follow in 1A?
