Ambassador, people that make these kind of comments are just jealous. Coal bucket fan, how bad did that QB hurt you a couple weeks ago? He is good but Mitchell, a home grown product ran all over you. We have had 2 transfers since 2007 that I can think of...Grider this year and Big DJ in 2011.

Why I say that is that to win 1A since 2007, teams have had to go thru SP to win that gold ball. UC was the better team as Wayne Co was in 2011, but SP was in both UC games and the WC game. Nobody has blown us out....that is why I say you fellars from west tn need to put down those rose colored glasses. UC, Humbolt, and Dresden are some of the larger teams in 1A so they should be good. SP will have a couple of downs years but will be in contention again in 2016.

I UncleDave has to disagree as neither humbolt nor NCS were in Cookeville yesterday. This west tn great football mess is hilarious!

Mr football is a great honor but we have had some very good players not win it either....Eddie Moore and Robert Robinson are two that were snubbed. It is like the heisman....a popularity contest.

That is your opinion and they are good backs but I would not trade ours for UCs either. We had one lineman that was even close to the size of your line and our boys still rushed for a lot of yards this year. A talented big line will make any back look good when they open up them big holes.

Most of that speed mess you heard from a few delusional fans. We are proud of our boys and we have some very good backs. No need in degrading them as u are doing. Not that it would have mattered but Mr football Lankford has been injured since the 2nd rd and has not been as effective in the playoffs. UC has good backs but they also have a massive line to run behind.

Great game today by Union City. I knew line play would be huge and it was as UC controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. This UC team has size and speed which is a deadly combination. I also saw some great sportsmanship as they were congratulating the Pirate players who were playing their last high school game. Congrats on the championship! Now to my Pirates...y'all came up a little short of your goal this year... Just ran into a very good football team. Be proud of your accomplishments and that you never gave up in this game. Underclassmen just get ready to hit the weights....seniors, thanks for the great year.

Both of these teams are battle tested and bring impressive teams to Cookeville Friday. Both rely on a tough ground game and a stiff defense. As it has been said, penalties and turnovers will determine the game as these look to be two evenly matched teams. SP has only played one other school twice in the state game...Lake Co. They lost to them in 1985 but returned the favor in 1994. I am looking for the Pirates to repeat history and bring the gold ball home by 1 point.

Someone asked earlier if the Pirates have seen the veer this year....yep, against Sequatchie County but they don't have the players that Union City does. Like I said in an earlier post, this will be assignment football on defense for the Pirates as the veer will eat you up if someone does not carry out their assignment. Both teams are hungry and have proven to be the best in 1A on their side of the state, but only one will get the title and take the gold ball home. The Pirates have been in a pattern in the state games since 2007: 2007 - win 2009 - lose 2010 - win 2011 - lose So my prediction is that the Pirates win this one per this pattern...LOL. This will be as good of a game as 2009 but the Pirates will pull this one out in a close one.

The Pirates must play sound defense and take advantage of their opportunities on offense. The pirates must win the battle in the trenches to have a chance to win. Much line last week, if they can hold their blocks and give the three headed monster time to hit the whole I like our chances. The pirate defense is much improved from 2009 but this will be the biggest test they have faced all year. From watching UC, they have a big physical line and run that veer to perfection...Reminds me of jasper back in the day. This is an offense that calls for assignment football on defense. Defensively they are setup to stop the run so this will be a very stiff test for the Pirates. Looking forward to a great game Friday....just hope the rain will hold off until after the game.

This is one Pirate fan that will be cheering for TC Friday night from Coalfield. Should be a very good game...just watch out for that tall guy wearing a GCA helmet..when we went up on them by 2-3 TDs in 2009 he decided to run over the kicker and the holder..LOL

Anyone that thinks this Pirate team is unbeatable is not looking at things realistically. This is not the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011 team. This is not a stockpiled team of athletes like in those years. This team has faced 3 good teams and are 2-1 against them. Yes, they have faced adversity and showed signs of being a more mature team but last week was a setback. First half was good but you have to play a full 4 quarters. If Moore Co was a better team, the Pirates would be practicing basketball this week. The Pirates are facing a fledgling team this week, but they have several athletes that will give them problems. They better be ready to play and cut out all of the mental mistakes or this could be the end of the road for them this week. On the flip side, if the Pirates will get their minds right as Eraser says, and come in focused they can compete with any team in 1A.

The bye week hurt us in my opinion as we werea little sloppy. Not much I can say about the refs that has not already been said. Overall the team did not seem focused or motivated especially in the second half and if that does not change they could lose this coming week.

This could be an interesting game if Boyd uses Cardwell and the big back the Pirates had trouble tackling. It gives Boyd a shot but just don't think the Bucs can stop Jasper enough times to win this game.

If the Pirates come out and get a two to three touchdown lead early, it could spell another long game for the Warriors. That doubt that they are going to lose again will creep in and kill any motivation they have going into the game. On the other hand, if the Warriors can weather the storm and keep it close going into the 4th quarter, then it could be anyone's game.

BlackPearl....at least we know how to sniff out and stuff the hook and ladder play....that poor Polk County player got blasted when he took that lateral.

Marion is a good team but i just don't they are near as tough of a team as the pirates faced last night. Pirates stay humble and play their game and they win this game going away. Rain won't be the factor it has been in the past for the pirates...this team is not all about speed but have returned to smash mouth football this year.

Last night was an instant classic between these two teams. It was like watching two heavy weights duke it out for 4 quarters. Polk whipped the pirate line on both sides of the ball in the first half, but the pirates pushed them around in the second half. This was a hard hitting game and there will be a lot of sore young men this morning. Play calling in my opinion was good, Polk just blew up a lot of plays in the first half. Time for the pirates to turn their attention to Jasper...lets go boys! Show them that you are still the bully of the valley!

This will be a very physical game for the Pirates so hopefully win or lose they come out of this one without any injuries. Polk is known for a physical style of play but the Pirates have also gotten back to their roots this season. I don't understand folks thinking the Pirates don't have a chance but they usually play well as the underdog. This team has come together since the Hixson game where they were physically/mentally whipped...so this will go along way in seeing how they handle being punched in the mouth. Polk fans, sounds like your O-line is coming along....I was thinking early this year there was mention of them being young this year?? Davis is a good coach and always has Polk County ready to play so I don't expect anything but a slobber knocker Friday night.

If the Pirates continue down the road of maturing and playing as a team, I say they win a hard fought game tonight. I think the Pirates are 2 touchdowns better than the Bucs this year, but it remains to be seen if they show up ready to play from the first snap. I know Boyd will bring it for 4 quarters, and if this young team is hanging around at the start of the 4th quarter, it could spell a big L on the schedule for the Pirates. As D60 said, this game will show us how the Pirates will end the season having 3 tough games out of the next 4. If they win out, they will reap the rewards with home field advantage thru most of the playoffs.
