  1. Someone asked about the DNJ Live chat. There is one scheduled for 7 p.m. (CST). So jump on at dnj.com/sports in 15 minutes. Thanks, Tom Kreager DNJ prep editor
  2. Good catch. Won't be perfect this year.
  3. How 'bout clicking on the link? Helps us newspaper folk out. http://www.dnj.com/article/20111028/SPORTS08/111029001/Kreager-s-projected-6A-pairings?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE
  4. Quad 1 is considered a Knoxville/Upper East Tenn. quad. Quad 2 is considered a Southern Middle Tenn./Chatt. quad (obviously Farragut and Oak Ridge come down because of excessive East Tenn. teams in the playoffs. Proximity to Chatty area did play part of Riverdale/Blackman being selected as the two teams. Subjective -- yes. But consistent to last year. That's all you can hope for is consistency. Quad 3 A Nashville/Williamson Co. quad. Quad 4 a Memphis area quad.
  5. How does Hardin Co. winning have any bearing on the playoffs? What am I missing? Or do you mean Hardin Valley?
  6. I actually have around 37 games to watch in 6A, which could affect the brackets. And that doesn't include some of the district title/runner-up scenario games. It's going to be a long one for a lot of folks Friday night.
  7. coffee is a district champ or runner-up depending on what they do Friday. Those are seeded first this year. Oakland won't play an Indy or Franklin unless Lincoln Co or Jeff Co. get in playoffs. That would push Oakland to Quad 3. Then they would likely play a Mt. Juliet or Indy depending on what Smyrna does Thursday. Any more questions ask me in our live DNJ chat on Monday and I will try to get an answer. You may send them ahead of time to tkreager@DNJ.com.
  8. Accept my apologies. I accidentally overlooked Lincoln Co. Here are my updated pairings. http://www.dnj.com/article/20111016/SPORTS08/111016001/UPDATED-BLOG-6A-playoffs-started-today-
  9. Depends how they went I guess. Just using their analogy from memory last year. We'll see in a couple weeks if I'm right or wrong.
  10. Just using my memory from last year's maps. I believe the rationale used last year was that a team like Riverdale and Blackman with their proximity to I-24 could be part of that Quad 2 (Chattanooga quad) better than Oakland/Siegel since they would both have to travel through town to get to the interstate.
  11. Your wish is granted... http://www.dnj.com/article/20111015/SPORTS08/111015001/UPDATED-BLOG-6A-playoffs-started-today- As far as being different from TSSAA, these include last night's games. ALSO, I include Coffee Co., which locked up at least a runner-up finish in 6-AAA and is currently 3-5, so they aren't in the list by the TSSAA.
  12. There is a hole in your argument: Dillon Woodruff was named player of the week after the win over Hendersonville and Riverdale defeated La Vergne the next week. Interesting to note that three Rutherford Co. athletes have been named player of the week: Tae Martin, Siegel Dillon Woodruff, Riverdale I'Tavius Mathers, Blackman
  13. Here are my playoff projections for Class 1A-6A. Not saying it's perfect as it's the first one. Usually it takes me a week or two to get in the right mode. And you have to be somewhat subjective in giving top and second seeds in some cases. http://www.dnj.com/article/20111005/SPORTS08/111004011/BLOG-high-school-football-playoffs-started-today-
  14. Here you go, from the TSSAA Handbook: Once the 24 teams have been selected in the Class 1A and 2A playoffs, the teams will be geographically grouped into four six-team quadrants. Once the 32 teams have been selected in the Class 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A playoffs, the teams will be geographically grouped into four eight-team quadrants. This grouping will be done without regard to district/region alignments. Priority for seeding once the teams have been placed in their geographic quadrants shall be as follows: 1. Teams finishing 1st in their district will receive first priority. 2. Teams finishing 2nd in their district will receive second priority. 3. Teams who do not finish 1st or 2nd in their district and qualify based on their position in the football play-off standings shall receive last priority. Interesting note that will have some affect and I will have to clarify this. But the handbook says that if a first or second place team is ineligible for the playoffs due to a punishment, the third place team moves up. There is a couple of places where that could come into affect.
  15. Crawdad You are wrong. First and second place teams seeded first. This is the "tweak" the TSSAA did after last year. Remember in 6A they had District champ Brentwood as an eighth seed playing District champ Smyrna as a No. 1 seed? After the season the playoff committee met and they agreed that first and second place needed to be seeded first that way they have a chance at a home game. Let me know and I can probably find the story somewhere if you don't remember or believe me. I fully expect the pairings to take longer to release and the potential for an error in the release is MUCH greater by this tweak.
  16. 1 vs. 8 4 vs. 5 3 vs. 6 2 vs. 7 Quad 3 is wrong. Antioch wouldn't be an 8 seed. REMEMBER. Gotta seed 1st and 2nd place in each district FIRST. That will also alter Quad 4.
  17. I think you need to take a closer look at your seeds and refer to TSSAA's seeding process.
