  1. The Rebels swept the Panthers, and the Patriots swept the Bulldogs in regular season. Sooooo....., since this is D2AA, it's very likely that 1 & 2 could be from Claiborne County when the dust settles. It's Gut Check time!
  2. Opinions are just opinions, and instead of giving mine I will quote some players I have talked to about the subject. All teams think they have the best player as a rule, but I have asked several players from various teams who they dread the most among Allen Dewyse, Tyler Sauceman, Javan Crockett, and Michael King. Crockett, DeWyse, Sauceman, then King in that order, have been the most answers.
  3. It all depends on how the seeding is determined. If a tie is broken by looking at head-to-head, common opponents, and overall record, you have a point. When numbers are drawn from a hat, I can't see that 3 and 4 are any better than 5.
  4. Barry Brooks proved that he can guard Allen, and he's not even a starter! LOL just joking about the starter part. Barry plays 6th man better than anyone I've see this season. He knows his role, and TOUGH defense is a big part of it. I hope some scouts get to see Barry at his best in the days ahead. He could end up with a ride from a small school looking for a team player with a lot of heart.
  5. I agree about TSSAA, but strongly disagree about "neutral" sites. I think of them as "DISINTRESTED SITES". You never get much crowd support at neutral sites because the local folks have very little interest in the outcomes. As long as the officials are neutral, I would rather be in the middle of a loud opposing crowd than NO crowd. I have really been disappointed with the crowd size a Morristown West. I doesn't matter about the gym capacity when only 500 rotatating fans come in to watch 1 game each. The crowd seems larger at times, but some are waiting for their team to dress and leave from the previous game, and others are finding a seat to wait for the next game. I hope that enough people notice the poor attendance to move it to a D2AA site in the years ahead. The same "travel" fans that show up in Morristown would have gone to Chucky-Doak, Gatlinburg, or Harrogate. I'm certain that more "home only" fans would have shown up at any of those remote sites.
  6. Does anyone have any 8-team and 16-team bracket forms in Adobe or Word format that can be printed clearly on a single sheet of paper? The brackets here are great for online viewing, but didn't print out very well. Thanks!!
  7. I don't see that happening at Cumberland Gap High School. The boys team has 6 players that start, and 2 sophomores that play big roles, so they go 8 deep, and play as needed. I haven't seen any player benched for 1 mistake. The girls team goes 7 deep, and the same is true concerning mistakes. Back to back fouls is the most likely cause for an expidited exit. I have seen coaches and officials act in many unprofessional ways at many schools over the years. All I can say is that they need to remain professional, and remember that they are working with teenagers, not professionals. It makes me really appreciate Sherrill King & Ron Vannoy, and the Cumberland Gap experience.
  8. I just tried this with my pictures, and it worked just fine with a small(11kb) Jpeg image. The file extension I used is .jpg, but SIZE is the most likely problem, as several formats are available. Basically you need to use what is commonly known as a thumbnail size.
  9. I would like to use a personal photo as my avatar. Is that possible? They do it on BluegrassPreps.com in their forums.
  10. I'm just guessing here, but it is a common problem, your picture could be too large. Try resizing it to 1"X2", save it as a Jpeg with a new name, and try uploading the smaller size.
  11. Agreed, but you left out Andrew Fultz as the 3rd catalyst. A.J. has to play a more vertical game. He would be draw more double teams, and improve the inside out game.
  12. Cumberland Gap @ Pigeon Forge South Greene @ Claiborne Rutledge @ Gatlinburg-Pittman West Greene @ Chuckey-Doak Open or unlisted: Union Co.
  13. Cumberland Gap will have everyone back in Region 1AA. None of these young ladies started last year, and are starting to gel pretty well. Whitney Vannoy, and Sara Barnard are looking like real gaurd prospects.
  14. My guess? Allen DeWyse will lead all scorers with 24 points, Tigers will lead by 6 at the half, Panthers will lead by 4 after 3, Panthers hang on by 3. If it goes to OT. Panthers by 2, DeWyse will add 5 more for 29. Panthers will have 4 players in double figures. 3 players will foul out between the 2 teams. Of course, this is just a guess. LOL
  15. Not too bad on the picks. 50% is right in there with the number of calls made by refs on average, the number of times I skipped 6th period study hall way back in high school, how often my kids followed my advice growing up, the price we should be paying for gasoline and jewelry........ Better luck with your Tuesday picks!
  16. I'm not sure how you get underrated. Maybe those elusive folks in charge of rating are overrated, and should be replaced by those of us who recognize underrating at a quick glance! (Just joking) Head Coach Sherrill King of Cumberland Gap is a new coach at a new school, and he is going about it the right way.
  17. I missed the first South Greene match up with the Panthers, but I haven't seen anyone else in the district go 6 deep as well as CGHS so far this year. In the C-D game, and the Clinton game at Wayne county, it was one player with an exceptional night, and a good support effort that handed the Pathers a loss. King had 30 points, with 2 more players in double figures in the C-D win. DeWyse posted 21, but didn't get enough support to make the push. The Gap has 3 players averaging double figures, and 3 more at 8+ ppg. I hope they pick the Big Cat Revenge to go sonic at once.

  19. First I will have to admit that I'm not sure about the policy in TSSAA. I live on the TN/KY border, and have been broadcasting Basketball, Football, and Baseball in Kentucky for the past few years. This is my first years of broadcasting strictly in Tennessee. KHSAA will allow a coach to list 2 officials that they wish to ban from their games each season. If they encounter a 3rd, they can either deal with it, or replace one of the names. Essentially, since each coach in each contest could have different officials named, there would be a total of 4 officials unassignable for that game. Hopefully most of the bad calls for that evening would be in somebody elses gym. I'm not sure what happens if every coach in the region puts the same name on his list of 2, but logic says that the bum official has just been barred, unless he gets work outside of his region. I wouldn't hire anyone that has been banned from his own home! Would you? This policy would help TSSAA clean up the bottom rung of the ladder.
  20. Well said! A good officials resume' should qualify him or her for Sainthood. Those guys do get more than a fair share of abuse, and usually undeservedly. To generalize that all officials are bad, really overstates the case, but I believe that policing should come more from within the ranks of officials. Many are obviously put into varsity action prematurely, and should be returned to Jr. Pro. My hat is off to good officials. I just wish there were more.
  21. It's not impossible to correct an inadvertant whistle. Put the ball back into play along the sideline or baseline close to where the error was made, and give it back to to proper team. One official can also ask for help from another if he is not sure of the call he just made. It takes guts to admit that you might have been mistaken, but with 3 officials on the floor, somebody should be closest to the action. and should be primarily responsible for the call, but not fully responsible due to blocked views and odd angles. I think fans would respect officiating crews more if they occasionally admitted that they might have been mistaken, and continue play. I also believe that a good official that works with a bad official should first try to help him or her with discussions before and after the game. If those discussions haven't improved his or her performance be mid-season (along about now), a consistantly poor official should be reported and disciplined or removed. I would rather watch a game with 2 officials that occasionally miss a call in both directions, than a game with 3 officials in which 1 consistanly makes bad calls in 1 direction.
