  1. There's a big difference in being a "winning" team and a "championship" team...
  2. I think quarterly updates will suffice, unless EHS starts putting something together.
  3. Well, I see that nothing has changed here.....carry on.
  4. Well, that's the nature of the playoffs. Last year, you had Maryville, SH, DB, and Sevier County all in Quad 1. The year before, 7 of the 8 teams in quad 1 were ranked in the final AP Top 10 poll. I'm not justifying losing and your ultimate goal should be winning the last game of the season. But that kind of success takes time. If you get knocked out of the playoffs by a semi finalist or eventual champion early on doesn't mean the season is a waste and you don't have something to build upon for the next season.
  5. I wouldn't mind seeing high school adopt the NCAA rule regarding bands which states they can play from the end of a play until the center covers the ball at the LOS. Bands contribute to the atmosphere that is football, so it's pointless to have those kids sit on their hands the whole game if they are required to be there (and they are, the administrators see to that). I echo your sentiment regarding the PA announcer. They had a very good PA guy doing the JV games a year or so ago. Hopefully, he'll wait until the current doofus calls it quits. As far as early predictions go: 1-2: SH or DB 3-4: TH or Boone 5-7: let's just say that I had to use google to remember the other members of the conference (Volunteer just doesn't seem to belong...) I think SH turned a huge corner by defeating DB last year. Of course, DB will be wanting to return the favor in JC. SH also has rematches against Siegel and Brentwood Academy, so it will be interesting to see if any progress can be witnessed against those two opponents.
  6. Couldn't have said it better myself. 2013 was a great year for SH football and great season to build upon next year. The Streak - Ended Conference Champions First win over Farragut, which just happened to be a playoff win Considering the competition come playoff time, a quarterfinal appearance in the playoffs would be an outstanding accomplishment for 2014 and is also an attainable goal for SH next year. Enjoy the rest of the playoffs gentleman. I may make an appearance in the bball boards from time to time. Otherwise, I'll see you guys in 2014.
  7. Clearly, something went awry for SH. I don't think anyone on this board honestly thought SH wouldn't be able to score more than 7 in the first half. I wasn't able to attend or even listen to the game. Perhaps someone in attendance can shed some light on what transpired.
  8. Common sense says whichever team makes the fewest mistakes on offense will win this one. SH has been playing well the past few weeks and still may be riding the wave of momentum from the DB win. SH's defense has stepped up in key situations and made stops when they needed to in order to give the offense a chance to win. I'm thinking SH's defense may be a bit better than the Smokey Bears. Should be a good game that goes down to the waning minutes.
  9. Eh, I'd still have the right one.
  10. I reject your premise. Greeneville's district schedule has even more cupcakes than the Big 7 conference does, and they have two (recent) state titles. I would bet my left nut that if you put Maryville in the Big 7 conference, they would still mop the floor with everyone else in the state.
  11. Another thread by Mr. Blazer destined for "locked" status.
  12. Great, one of these guys.... How about adding some intelligent discourse to the conversation.
  13. Interesting that you say that. I remember when the SH job was open, there were rumors that Clark may have entertained the idea of leaving. I don't think it had any chance of happening, nor did SH want to go that route (not because he isn't a good coach, but other reasons). I believe it's safe to say that Clark puts up with some political BS that others don't. What you get for working in Kingsport Has anyone else noticed that Art and Wacko have been silent since the Science Hill game???
  14. Did I hear that McGue may have tweaked his ankle during tonight's game? In any case, another tough game for SH. Hey, it's the playoffs; the competition tends to get tougher each week. It looks as if SH has found a running game, but can they use it with success against Sevier County? Of course, the winner has the pleasure of doing the honors against Maryville the following week...
  15. Another first in Science Hill football history with a win over Farragut. More importantly, a very good playoff win. Next stop, the land of the double d chesticles for a 2nd round matchup with the smokey bears.
  16. Here we go...another DB melt down thread. It seems that we have one of these every year. If you guys are foolish enough to run off a coach like Graham Clark, then have at it. Look at what you guys have done over the past two decades and compare it to 98% of the other schools in TN. Yes, we'd all like to be able to win state championships like Maryville, but their success is even more rare. Remember that this is High School football. While we all want our alma mater's to win, we can't go throw a bag of money in front of Nick Saban and buy a title. Be thankful you have what you got.
  17. Tied at 21 early in the 2nd...this is starting to sound a lot like the SH v. Siegel game...
  18. I know...same thing at SH...I guess that was my point....not really sure what my point was. In any case, any word on how McGue's shoulder is doing?
  19. SH fans have a reputation for showing up late. Midway through the 1sr quarter though, the home side is pretty much full. At least that is my experience. Of course, there will be a smaller crowd for a game against Central or Volunteer, or if the game is during fall break. The same thing happens at DB...I remember looking over to the DB stands (still without the upper deck) 5 minutes before kickoff and thinking "where the heck is everyone?" Of course, the place was packed a few minutes later. The more this team wins, the more fans will come out and will travel with the team.
  20. Science Hill moved the ball pretty well against Siegel, but forced passes led to turnovers. SH also couldn't stop Siegel's big play ability. If SH didn't have the turnovers, it would have been a closer game, but Siegel would still have one...SH was prepared on defense to stop Siegel at that point in the season and Siegel was the better team.
  21. Friday's win can affect the Toppers two different ways...that is one possibility. I'm counting on possibility No. 2 and Science Hill shows its ready to take the next step in developing a top notch football program.
  22. I've been in several associations over the past several years. I happen to be in a phase of my career that requires me to relocate rather routinely. I'll most likely be joining a new association this year. The training has been pretty much identical in every association i've been in. They'll have the weekly meetings and discuss a different rule or topic each week. They'll also have two meetings for mechanics; one for 2-man and one for 3-man. Sitting in a school cafeteria and reading through the rule book is not effective training, which is what I've witnessed in all of the associations that I've been a member of. Also, one 90 minute training session on field mechanics is nowhere near enough. Most guys will only get one rep in these sessions. And if you're being honest, you know that a majority of the guys there are not there to learn, they are there for the meeting credit so they can get games. As another poster said, it isn't that hard to become a high school. Pay your state and local dues, buy your gear, pass the open book test (you have 3 attempts to get score a 70/100), and go to your 5 meetings. And I know the postseason exam score is 80...still open book. I remember one veteran walking in to a meeting after the exam period bragging that he passed with an 82. He got a sectional game that year and I felt like banging my head into a wall. I received more comprehensive and quality training at a Little League umpire school that I received through a clinic run by the TSSAA. I was a good umpire before I ever earned a cent from working a TSSAA game. If you have something different going on in Chattanooga, then kudos, but it still sounds like you're reading from the book. And that isn't how to train umpires. It does sound like you guys do more in the way of mechanics training. And yes, I've offered to help in training in every association that I've been a part of. Most of what I end up being able to do is work with the guys that will listen before and after games. I sat in one rule meeting where the instructor was teaching something that was blatantly contradicting the rule book. I called him on it, as did several others. The response we got was "well, this is how we are going to do it hear." Training is not sufficient in TSSAA, period. If you don't agree with that, then you are ignorant to what actual training is.
  23. Stars, always enjoy reading your unique lexicon when playoff time rolls around. SH faces a very tough opponent in Farragut. If the Hill can build off the momentum from the DB win and play 4 quarters of solid football, SH will advance to the 2nd round. Looking forward to a good game.
