  1. State wrestling tournaments will return to Franklin in 2011 By MAURICE PATTON • THE TENNESSEAN • February 25, 2010 The state high school team and individual wrestling tournaments will be returning to Franklin in 2011. “We don’t see any reason to look for another venue,” said Bernard Childress, executive director of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. “We’re moving forward now, thinking of ways we can improve for next year.” The events were held for the first time this month at the Williamson County Agricultural Expo Center after previously being held in Clarksville, Nashville and Chattanooga. Aside from the football and basketball state championships and Spring Fling, the state association’s staff has been empowered by the Board of Control to make decisions regarding the sites for other state tournaments, including wrestling. Childress said that because of a limited demand to host those events, there is no bid process. The state individual tournament had been held in Chattanooga, Tennessee’s wrestling hotbed, for more than 25 years, but there were some issues. High on that list was parking, with spaces near Chattanooga’s McKenzie Arena controlled by the university and also used for college-related activities. The parking area at the Ag Expo will hold 1,700-2,000 cars, director Kenny Wallace said. Also, many of the costs — such as security, cleanup, ticket sellers and gatekeepers — were charged on top of a facility usage fee of $6,500 that was evenly split between the state association and the Greater Chattanooga Sports and Events Committee. Because Williamson County schools participated in the tournament, the Ag Expo waived a $4,000 daily usage fee. Also, state association revenue was created from parking fees despite sharing a percentage with the Centennial High School band boosters, who staffed the 15-acre lot. The state association got no parking money in Chattanooga. “I think a lot of this was just cost-efficiency,” said Brentwood Coach Joe Blair, who spearheaded the effort to land the state duals. M. Scott Smith, president of the Chattanooga sports committee, was unavailable for comment on Thursday. Childress said that while the plans next year are to return to the Ag Expo — where attendance was up by approximately 200 for both the dual and individual tournaments from 2009 — the state association isn’t ready to look beyond that point just yet. “It’ll be a year-to-year basis,” Childress said. “It has to be both ways. They’ve got have to want us, too. We want it to be a win-win for both.” Wallace said the building is available for as long as the state association wants to keep coming back. “From our point of view, it went well,” Wallace said. “We hope we’re starting a nice, long relationship with them.”
  2. No you are retarded i know they aren't going to combine I am just saying the students in Bradley County have the advantage of being able to choose which school they attend obviously Bradley is winning this battle. GRILLZ, No need for name calling. You are flat out wrong if you think Bradley is good because of open zoning. Back up what you say with facts.
  3. Before this gets ugly...there is no new school planned for Bradley County next year. BB was just trying to get some of you excited. Good job BB it worked.
  4. Well maybe we don't know anything but isn't it "Brandon" Forrester and not "Greg"? Also, isn't it "Josh" Boskin?
  5. Yeah, and the other rumors are that either Heath Eslinger or Jim Morgan will be the new coach and Bailey Jones will be back for a 5th year at 160 (Because he can). There is one more rumor, that BB slipped on a cow patty at the Ag Center this past weekend and hit his head on that dirt floor.
  6. All they need to do is put the clocks on a stand to get them off the floor.

  8. Did Region 3 have the best showing of the 8 regions?
  9. Is that the best you can come up with? Seriously. If you were trying to pi$$ us off...sorry, it didn't work. If you want to know and understand BC Wrestling you must get a firm grasp on the next sentence. We don't care what you think! It's a huge source of comic relief to see people like you get so worked up worrying about the goings on at Bradley. Do a little research. You never see a BC fan come on this site and brag about our team. We just wrestle. We try to treat all of our opponents with respect and expect the same in return. We try to win with class and lose with class. Where we are ranked means nothing to us. Our goal every year is to produce good wrestlers, produce good young men and to win the DI State Duals and the DI State Traditional. That's it. We're not trying to impress anyone but we're thankful for any respect we gain along the journey. Regarding who FR has wrestled vs BC....You guys went to Indiana and wrestled Pike, Southridge and Mater Dei. FR won aginst Pike and Southridge. Both are not in the Indiana Top 20. MD is ranked 7th and FR was soundly beaten . Whoopty do. You also traveled to Collins Hill and wrestled CH and Brandon. I gotta tell you ole buddy....that was ugly. I was there and it was hard to watch. FR didn't win a match...well, they did get a FF in the match against CH. The combined score was something like 134-6. Talk about getting taken out behind the woodshed. What did going down to Georgia and taking a butt whipping prove? Did getting pinned in 10 of 26 matches make you better? You could be right. BC may not be the best overall team in Tennessee but we're never going to know for sure. Heck, we may not be the best DI team in Tennessee. Science Hill, Ravenwood, Cleveland and Clarksville are all good, well coached teams and they are going to do all they can to send us packing. All we know for sure is....BC has been the better team against everyone we have wrestled on the day we wrestled them and a lot can happen between now and 10:00 Saturday night. Lastly, I'll leave you with this. You are a rank amateur when it comes to trying to rile up the BC Nation. CoachT has produced many gifted pros like Walknvol, Raider76 and others. You couldn't carry their jock. They still wear one huh? I submit the two greatest improvement stories DOES include your suggested Soddy and I add McCallie, which i know you respect also BB, AS YOU AND JUSTIN certainly considered AT ONE POINT. IMHO...These two greatest improvements came as a result of the two greatest schedules WITHIN the Tennessee wrestling family - bar none! Ryan ended last season the greatest for similar reasons. BC could, in my opinion, rise to anyone's level IF EXPOSED TO IT. It is only speculation otherwise,,, and the credibility of the rankings apply ONLY to those who chooses to hide behind NO ONE! Dude, what is it you smoke before posting on here? Can anyone translate for me?
  10. Re: Seeding of the DI State Duals,,,,,I know in past years the teams were supposed to be "placed" in the brackets and this year we are using the seeding criteria that considers what last years teams did,,,,which I agree is better than just placing teams, but since there are only 16 teams surely there is a way to do a better job of seeding this tournament. I am only suggesting that we continue to improve in this area. I don't have an answer on how to do it but there are plenty of wrestling people out there that could come up with a better way to seed this tournament. Again, I know this year we have a better understanding on what the process is which is an improvment, but I feel it can still be improved even more. How about it Bayou Bear...you probably already have a plan.
  11. Looks like Science Hill got the tough draw. I would assusme they wanted to be on the same side as Cleveland. Science Hill beat Cleveland in a dual earlier in the season. By looking at the brackets are there any possible individual match ups to look forward too?

    State Duals

It seems to me the DI schools got what amounts to there invitational tournament when coaches voted to make a DI A-AA state tournament. It is great that they get to call themselves state champions. The DII invitational tournament is nothing more than this same thing only done years later to enable some programs that are not as strong as the DIIAAA heavys a chance to wrestle. Did they qualify....no, but neither did any of the DII heavyweight schools. The important thing is that these kids get to compete. The T$$AA makes some more money. It should be a great DIIAAA tournament. Any 1 of 4 teams could win it. Wish I could say the same for the DI-AAA. Until they all get together again (DI coaches will never let that happen)..., we'll just have to settle for two too many team state champions and a happy bunch of DII small school winners. Wouldn't it be great to see Bradley wrestle just one of those schools? How much fun would that be? CoachKirk, Glad you think the A-AA State Championships amounts to the same as the DII Invitational. I am sure the A-AA schools competing would not agree with you. If it is so important for the weaker DII schools to compete why does it have to take place at the State Championship venue. Why couldn't one of those weaker schools host the tournament and use it for a fund raiser? What does Bradley wrestling anyone have to do with this?

    State Duals

Slingshot, you bring up valid questions about this and I agree with you regarding this topic,,,,I think. I want to know what is the purpose for having a DII Invitational tournament, and why have it at the same time and at the same venue as a state championship event? Also, whatever the reasoning is to allow a DII invitational why isn't the DI teams afforded the same opportunity?
