  1. Any program that is found guilty of TSSAA rule violations should be punished. I personally am in favor of post season suspensions. The real issue I have with private schools playing in Division I is the fact that they do have something to offer that public schools do not. Like you said, they charge tuition to attend their school, & that opens up a potential draw. Being privately operated they can offer things to students that most public's cannot. If they want to add courses or integrate certain technologies into their environment they have much less red tape to cut through. I believe in a lot of cases (but not all by any means) that private schools offer an environment that allows students to be better prepared for college & post-grad programs. With that said you made a point that is, at least partially, at the root of this discussion. Momma & Daddy want junior to have the best educational opportunity but cant afford to pay the note. Luckily Junior can throw, catch, run, block, or kick very well. He's doing just fine at xyz junior high then coach whoever catches wind of him, says hey Mr. & Mrs. Junior's parents I can get your baby the best & he will still get to play football, let's just keep it under our hats. Next thing you know Junior is lighting up the Friday Nights beating the dog squeeze outta the high school his old junior high was a feeder for. Now what "draw" did the public high school he was planning to attend have in comparison? Probably not much of anything unless it was in a small percentage of public's in the state. Bottom line is as long as private's are allowed to play in public divisions this will be a concern. Junior gets "something for nothing" & the private school gets an edge on their public competition. Now you've got a discussion. What's your thoughts?
  2. Obviously this one does, hence the post season ban & dozers & dump trucks on the field instead of players getting ready for round 1.
  3. I'm sure it will be "field turf" type of surface. It's nice but to keep it up properly to avoid injuries takes a little effort & money to condition the rubber pellets & to replace them as necessary. Also better get some sort of industrial sized diaper rash ointment, those little rubber pellets get EVERYWHERE, run around sweating with your shorts full of rubber sand for a couple of hours! It'll change your perspective on things One question though, what are they gonna put at mid-field? Big GCA, ram head, or maybe $
  4. Now that is a fact regardless of who's won what or not.
  5. Did Greeneville play up in the past? If so why?
  6. Well I'm not one for splitting hairs but I am for talking brass tacks. So here's a little fuel for that proverbial fire. Let's look at the last decade shall we. Alcoa: 2001-semi's 2002-missed play off's 2003-semi's 2004-gold 2005-gold 2006-gold 2007-gold 2008-gold 2009-gold 2010-gold 2011-???? Maryville: 2001-gold 2002-gold 2003-semi's 2004-gold 2005-gold 2006-gold 2007-gold 2008-finals 2009-finals 2010-gold 2011-???? Greeneville: 2001-round 2 2002-round 3 2003-round 3 2004-round 1 2005-missed play off's 2006-missed play off's 2007-round 3 2008-semi's 2009-finals 2010-gold 2011-???? Now I suspect all 3 will add gold to the 2011 line as well but that's 5 games away so who knows. I think when it's laid out in front of anyone the comparison is not that close & the true magnitude of what both Alcoa & Maryville have been able to achieve is evident. Now I know the last couple of comparisons are more "tongue in cheek" type of posts but here are the numbers. Like I said, I hope Greeneville is on their way but really. . .? I will agree that Greenevillians should be very proud of what that program has accomplished & where they are going. Getting gold is a very hard task to complete, getting a chance 2 years in a row is awesome, 3 years is extraordinary if they can get there & I see no reason they can't. But when you produce a decade of football like Alcoa & Maryville, well, that is almost beyond belief. I hope GHS has these kind of results to talk about a decade from now.
  7. Batie, I'm not tryin' to get personal here, heck I never even mentioned you by screen name. I was referencing a post you made. I don't have any hate for the devils but I feel I should address a couple things from your post I have quoted. First, let me clear something up, I am not a Maryville or an Alcoa faithful supporter. I do respect what they have built & what they are continuing to do. Second, I know what you posted, I quoted it. While I can't speak for what you intended it to come across as I can state as to how it came across to me. When the statement "just like Alcoa & Maryville programs" is made, well, it's a pretty hefty comment & should be expected to draw attention. I hope GHS is well on their way to building a dynasty. It would only be good for Tennessee football to have another power, especially from the east. Third, You did not say GHS was a dynasty. Did I say you did? Maybe I'm not typing slowly enough now (reference to an earlier sarcastic comment made). Lastly, as for making me feel better, while I appreciate your concern for my feelings I think it is unwarranted. My feelings are fine & believe me it would take far more than a random post from a faceless screen name in a far away city to really affect my "feelings" one way or another I'll say it again & for the last time on this thread. Best of luck to GHS & SHS this Friday
  8. GHS is a very good team & was my (and a lot of other folks) early pick to repeat this year. However it's hard to say no one is saying GHS is on the same level as Alcoa or Maryville when the statement was "The only down side is just like the Alcoa and Maryville program. When Greeneville doesn't compete for a state title it will be a down year". GHS is having a couple of phenomenal years, can they turn that into a dynasty? We'll have to wait & see. If they do then they can be sandwiched between two programs like Alcoa & Maryville. JMO, best of luck to GHS & SHS.
  9. GHS has a ways to go before they belong in a statement like this concerning Alcoa or Maryville. Programs new to perennial success are the hardest to tolerate.
  10. That sounds both optimistic & realistic to me. As a fan of any program balancing your heart & your head is always the most difficult thing to do but sounds like you're trying. I don't mind at all when folks pull for their teams, I mean heck that's why you pick a team you like & go watch 'em line up. I just think when the topic turns to "how good is good" it should have a healthy dose of head attached to the heart & actually look at the competition in a realistic light. If someone doesn't know about another team just a "I've not seen 'em but I hope we beat 'em" is fair but then when someone that does have knowledge of other competition gives there evaluation don't get all upset when they don't think team A is that closely matched with team B. . . or C, D, E, or F for that matter. Either way several teams are having very good seasons thus far, you never know, that's why they play 'em on grass & not computers. See y'all on the fences.
  11. Quick question for you guys. I was wondering about a couple kids that will be playing in this one. First, what are the physical stats as in height & weight (real ones not the roster version) for the England kid from SHS & the Manning kid from OHS? Also anyone have an idea of a 40 time for each & a career long (game & practice) on the Manning kid? I've saw them both on film but sometimes that can be misleading & I'm sure I haven't saw it all. Thanks.
  12. Don't need or want you grabbing on my coat tail kid. Go get a paper route. TROLL!!!
  13. I didn't take it there papajoe, just followed others that didn't handle my honest assessment very well. When presented with sarcasm & belittling comments toward me I can & will take it to what ever level the other players want to go to. As for the emoticons. . . there they are for all the world, I didn't make them. For the points I made that you don't seem to have issue with, do you agree or disagree. While I have saw coalfield on occasion & watched film of some of their games several times I have not watched every game by any stretch. Some intelligent input from others is welcome.
  14. Papajoe, rcpatriot, & sloth that is my point. What they do, they do well. From what I have watched on both film & first hand doing what they do well won't get them past the elite in single a ball this year. They are a solid team, I've said that, just don't think they do what they do well enough to go all the way. They are having a good run, just think they'll come up short. As for my comments on scheme please remember I was asked to elaborate so I did. Don't agree, fine, that's one of the points of an online message format such as coacht. So folks with different perspectives on things can discuss it. We will see as the year goes on. Please feel free to bookmark my posts if so desired as if I am wrong I will gladly eat a big plate of crow while you all point & laugh. If I'm right then please don't be offended when I hand you the proverbial salt shaker. BTW sloth, still waiting on you to quote that "degrading" post of mine
  15. Man get off the crack or whatever you're on. I have been trying to talk football & I have not one time degraded a player from coalfield. Please quote a single post of mine that degraded a player from coalfield. When I was smacked for stating the obvious I smacked back. I am fully aware the kids on that team work as hard, lift as much, run as far, & practice as long as anybody else. I applaud them for the sacrifice & dedication they must have to play this game we call football. That said as I stated in an earlier post I am awaiting your comparison of this coalfield team compared to SP, Wayne Co, Huntington and the like this year. I have given several assessments of what I have observed. As far as schemes it's mostly things like blocking schemes as in lineman assignments, there's not a lot of "twists" in there. It seems rather straight up. Nothing really wrong with that but when you start facing upper level talent they pattern blocking schemes rather quickly & come up with D-line schemes to confuse & defeat it. Same on the D-line for coalfield. Not a lot of disguised rush & their line rush & LB blitz combo's are. . . well vanilla. As in easily schemed against by an O-line. The D-backs & WR's are pretty good but when you start facing true speed they will not be as effective. There you go, hope you could understand that what with your limited knowledge of x's & o's (which I feel may be an attempt at baiting but hey who knows you may be actually as dumb as you say).
  16. Now I agree about the O line. They are true quality but I think the likes of SP, Wayne co, Huntington, & a few others defensive front men could go toe to toe with them & I think coalfield would have their hands full as most fronts would. I don't think they would have enough in the tank to then help out with the LB's meaning they would be running free. I see coalfields downfall being skill positions mostly WR & corner / safety on D. Couple that with what seems to be a rather vanilla schemes on both sides & I think they will get exposed when the weather gets cold.
  17. They did alright this past Friday didn't they? TROLL!!!
  18. I have not been demeaning to anyone. In my original post I stated my assessment of a good, but not great, coalfield team. Then, as usually happens when momma's & daddy's get their feelings hurt the "oh yea well. . . "s started. I did not take it to a personal level. I have continuously tried to remain on the subject of football, defending myself when necessary. My "lack of intellectual comments" is an unfair & inaccurate assessment that I will choose not to respond further to. To stay on topic then what is your evaluation of this coalfield team in regards to the top tier teams in the state this year? How do you feel this team matches up? I know every few years a team from that district thinks they have "the right stuff" & the fans (aka parents) are more than glad to talk about it until someone disagrees with them then they are quick to start slinging mud. Well I for one will gladly sling back if necessary. I don't feel that is the case in this instance. I would really enjoy an intelligent conversation on the subject but I will say this up front. If & when I (or someone else) doesn't agree that coalfield is the best thing that's ever came down the road the jackets nest will get all ruffled up. Let's see who can remain on topic & talk football & who starts slinging first shall we. I'll be waiting for your assessment of the jackets.
  19. A thousand apologies sloth. I thought you were referring to the team that waxed your jackets earlier this year. You seem to think I am a SP faithful but you couldn't be more wrong. I respect 'em & occasionally pull for 'em but I don't hold season tickets or anything. As for your typing more slowly comment, being from Morgan county & living in whatever gopher hole town you do I'm surprised you can type at all. I bet it takes a considerable amout or your meaningless day to construct a response using your slack jawed hunt & peck technique, MORON. See I can name call to. As for football, my assessment of coalfield remains the same. Good team, just not a great one.
  20. That game will not change the playoff picture for two reasons. 1. SP will beat GCA, it will be a ball game, but SP has a couple of things money can't buy (if it could I'm sure GCA would have 2 sets of each) a program built on hard work & they are playoff eligible :roflol: 2. See second part of #1
