  1. I'll contact him for a clarification! I'm looking forward to the game and I hope our boys can make it a good game. I may mosey on up to the railroad track - word is that's the place to be.

  3. What are the thoughts on this game now? CA is playing well, but will have to play extremely well to knock off a 5-A team. I've not seen Portland play, but I would expect them to be much bigger and deeper than 1-A Clarksville Academy. About half of CA's players play both ways. Talk amongst yourselves.
  4. Kind of like when people say, "no one wants a Wal-Mart here because there will be too much traffic."

  7. Yep, should be a good one! www.clarksvilleacademyfootball.com
  8. Yep. But the Cougars really played pretty well, especially considering we had a freshman quarterback at the helm. Stewart County looked fundamentally sound. Cody Atkins, and number 7 were really strong backs for the Rebels. We had trouble tackling them in the 4th and in overtime. You should try to let go of it and quit hating on the Cougars reddevilfever. After all, they are just kids playing football. Sheppy has a new gig now, and folks I know around CA want him and the Govs to succeed. His restaurant gets a bunch of business from the Academy folks, and he even advertises at CA. It's all good, so please try to let go of it. www.clarksvilleacademyfootball.com
  9. It's a game time decision. Very nice gesture by Coach Holliday and Stewart County - his team is wearing pink socks to honor coach Hood's wife, who lost her battle with cancer 2 weeks ago. There is an article previewing the game at The Leaf-Chronicle. www.clarksvilleacademyfootball.com
  10. No, Josh Jerles graduated, and will be playing at Rhodes College. CA still runs the spread, and throws quite a bit, though the jury is still out on how much after only one game. Last year the offense was pretty balanced: the Cougars had almost as many pass attempts as rushes.
  11. It should be a good game, and a great atmosphere. Stewart County always supports their teams, and CA was out in force Friday night. The complex was jammed. CA played with heart, and played pretty well overall in defeating 4-A Montgomery Central Friday night. However, we had too many penalties, and struggled offensively in the second half. I suspect the coaching staff will correct the mistakes and have the Cougars ready to play a 3-A team. ClarksvilleAcademyFootball.com

  13. Karcuff threw 115 pitches. 71 pitches in a 7 inning game would be nearly miraculous.

A pitchers' game it was. 3 hits total (2 for CA, 1 or zero for Cascade depending on scorekeeper), Karcuff struck out 8 for Cascade, Thompson struck out 10 for CA. Great pitchers duel. Congratulations Cascade, and good luck from here on out! www.clarksvilleacademybaseball.com

I would guess that's 12, Cody Hartley. He throws hard, but I wouldn't say he is wild - at least he hasn't been against us. We faced him Tuesday, and he walked 2, struck out 11, and gave up 9 hits to us in 6 1/3 innings. He beat us at the plate Wednesday with a 3 run homer, and beat us at the plate in last year's district tournament with a home run as well. He is a good pitcher for sure. But he is a great hitter, and he is fast. He was the district regular season MVP. www.clarksvilleacademybaseball.com

Our pitchers mix it up well, and their styles vary. There's no telling who we'll pitch, as our rotation has changed as the year has progressed. We don't hit a lot of long balls, but neither does anyone else at our place....the blue monster is a formidable foe. But we have been a good hitting team this year. We hit a bit of a rough patch in the middle of the season when 2 of our starters, both pitchers, suffered injuries and were out for a few weeks. They are both back now, and we are playing pretty good baseball. Ya'll scouted our championship game with NCS Thursday, so I'm sure that your coaches will have the team prepared. I know you all will bring a great team to Clarksville, and I am looking forward to seeing a good game. Perhaps we will meet at the game. www.clarksvilleacademybaseball.com

Not a bad forecast! NCS won regular season and Clarksville Academy was second. CA won the 10-A tournament, NCS was runner-up, and East Robertson was the last team eliminated before the finals. Best of luck to NCS at region. We're looking forward to hosting Cascade Monday at Clarksville Academy. www.clarksvilleacademybaseball.com
  19. Congratulations to Perry County on a hard fought victory. Like many have said, one of the best games I have seen in a long, long time, with great support from fans from both schools. PC showed class in victory, and I thought CA did as well in defeat. Good luck to the Vikings in state - this Cougar fan is rooting for you. I wish I had thought to have a Coach T meeting at the game; I enjoy reading the PC fans posts on here. Maybe we will have a chance to meet up in baseball or football.

I'd say Nashville Christian, East Robertson and Clarksville Academy will be in contention. If forced to pick a favorite, I'd go with NCS. Last year CA won the district, and NCS took the district tournament, with both advancing to region. NCS returns almost everyone as I recall. CA lost 4 starters, but was deep last year, and has a very strong Junior class, ER was a very solid team last year, returns many players, and has a new coach to boot, I believe. I would expect those three to be in the mix, with WH-H a darkhorse. However, I think the district is going to require the teams to suit up and play so it gets decided on the field! Everybody in 10-A is 0-0 with a chance to win it. Looking forward to a fun season.
  21. To attract students to the school?
  22. Your information is a bit off, but certainly CA has grown over the past few years, due primarily to a new head of school who runs the school well and promotes it, and a rapidly growing community. As for sports bringing students - success begets success. And with that, I will "stop coming with random stuff and use the dictonary for something that use which makes no sense".
  23. It seems there is some confusion here over the term "recruit". The two definitions that are most appropriate here as found on dictionary.com: 10. to attempt to enroll or enlist (a member, affiliate, student, or the like): a campaign to recruit new club members. 11. to seek to enroll (an athlete) at a school or college, often with an offer of an athletic scholarship. [/i] Of course ALL private schools recruit students like the first definition, but not all recruit like the second. Some offer scholarships and financial aid (Div 2), and some do not (Div 1) A private school must actively seek qualified and interested students to replace those who graduate, and to grow. EVERYBODY is zoned for a public school, and can attend for FREE already - what a huge advantage for public! Private schools have to promote themselves and advertise, and show students value so their parents will pay. CA has billboards all over town, and most everyone I know has said they received a mailer from CA in the past month. CA also has kids from surrounding towns enrolled; some play sports, some don't. Some are stars, some are starters, some sit the bench. Kids whose parents believe that a private school offers something better than they could get at their public school enroll. Those who are happy where they are don't - they stay in public school for free. And private schools around here have certainly not dominated athletics either. In fact, for most it is a struggle for them to keep up with their much larger public counterparts. Some people love the public school they are in, some people don't. For those that don't, private schools offer an alternative. From what I see here in Clarksville, CA is out in the marketplace promoting its school, and seeking students who meet the criteria. CA is no rogue athletic factory. Far from it.
  24. I think Jo Byrns will win handily. Collinwood has speed, but Jo Byrns has size and speed. Collinwood will probably break a couple of long runs for scores, but Jo Byrns will have the game well in hand by halftime. JB 35 CW 13 I met a bunch of nice folks in Collinwood - somehow I must have missed you murderbyzen.
