  1. It's an epidemic. My daughter is a point guard and tore hers in summer camp between her freshman and sophomore years. I've seen it more in guards, and of those guards I've noticed most have the same body type and muscular build - small, compact and very muscular. The scary part is that it seems to be happening at earlier ages than in the past (early high school and even as young as middle school) I'm with etownsparky - it's overuse - too many games - their bodies just break down - especially in those who play rigorous schedules beginning at age 8 or 9 (I'm guilty). ACL prevention exercises should be introduced at an early age and should be an intrical part of middle school and high school workouts. Even with that, it's a nasty injury that isn't going to go away.
  2. Webb scheduled Maryville, Alcoa and Ensworth during those years, knowing full well they would be "awfully hard to beat". Webb has had 2 open dates the past 2 years because we can't fill our schedule (non-district) with a local team - so we fill it with the Maryvilles and Alcoas and Ensworths and Baylors. If you ask Webb fans, they will tell you CAK wouldn't play us. I'm sure CAK fans were saying the same about Webb. I can tell you that the boys on the Webb team were chomping at the bit to play CAK, but for whatever reason it never worked out. Looking forward to seeing you there, FootballDad!
  3. Alex is a great coach. He knows the x's and o's - but more importantly knows how to coach teenage girls. He demands hard work, doesn't tolerate a bad attitude and won't settle for less than your best efforts. I am a Lady Spartan Mom, but I'm a big fan of Coach Bowers. Give him time - he'll turn it around.
  4. http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/may/16/powell-hires-alum-bart-walker-coach-girls-basketba/ Looks like a great hire for both the head coach and assistant coach positions!
  5. As they should be. Time is a tickin'...no coach means no summer practice schedule, no camps. While everyone else is working over the summer, Powell doesn't have anything in place. What a shame.
  6. Agreed. I probably should have said "some coaches". I certainly didn't mean to insinuate that all coaches lose their passion.
  7. I think the same could be said about a lot of schools. Coaches lose their passion for the game and become complacent. Rather than admit it and move on, they stay put. It is a huge disservice to the players.
  8. Yes, they lost a few talented seniors but they are returning some good players who, with the right coaching, should be able to compete in their region. Shea Coker will be a junior next year - she can shoot the lights out and is probably one of the best shooters in Knox County in her class. Demaya (sp?) Moore is another rising junior who has potential at the post. Kalea Rainey is a rising senior who shows promise, as do rising sophomores Jill Gorman and Tori Lentz. More importantly, there are some girls who quit basketball or didn't try out - good middle school players - who didn't want to play for the current (or former) coach. New blood may be just what this team needs to bring back some of the fire.
  9. Define "high profile". When will it be announced? I'm anxious to know, as I have several friends with girls on the team and would love to see the right fit - those girls are due. Do you want to spill it - or just keep us guessing? And in my opinion yes - Powell has the talent - just needs the right coach to be successful.
  10. Jane Romano and Kelsey Brown (Knox Webb) both signed with Birmingham Southern. Congrats!
  11. Looks like Fayette Academy 57 - Harding Academy 49. Can't find a score for the Jackson Christian / USJ game. Anyone???
  12. You most certainly are trying to take away AND discredit - thus the reason for your post. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't say you weren't trying to take away when the very essence of your post was to say that Caleb didn't deserve HIS award. I assume you are an adult, and you are trying to discredit an honor that was given to a kid for his hard work and dedication. Shame on you! This award was voted on - "A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2011 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration." according to Darrell Patterson, News Channel 9, Chattanooga. Stats are stats, but also considered are academics and character. Without knowing Caleb, you would have no idea how the latter figured into the equation, but anyone who meets him would vote him in hands down. There's your FACTS. Congratulations to Caleb and Brewer - 2 fine young men both on and off the field.
  13. http://www.webbschool.org/podium/default.aspx?t=135823 Webb School's WOW Broadcast Team will stream the game. Click on the link - from there go to the "Live Broadcast Link" Once there, click on "View More" and then "Upcoming Events"
  14. It's David and Goliath - and I like the way that one ends. I'm for the little guy!
  15. Try Coach Collier at Webb School - I don't know if they are having one, but they have in the past.
